Tech Romancer - Sega Dreamcast - Arcade & Dreamcast intros with Blodia II longplay [HD 1080p]

- Full playthrough / longplay of Tech Romancer as the hidden character Jin Saotome and Blodia II from Cyberbots. This is a rare example of a Capcom fighting game that only runs at 30fps and the mecha robot designs and concept for the game came from Shoji Kawamori (河森 正治) of Studio Nue (スタジオぬえ). Both the original arcade intro movie and the Dreamcast anime opening scene are shown at the start. Tech Romancer could be called Cyberbots 2 in all but name, however the change from 2D to 3D resulted in a large number of gameplay differences. So the two games end up being very different in many areas.
Tech Romancer features a wacky cast of characters and to go with that cast of characters, there is an equally odd mix of stories, many characters also have branching paths and not all the paths have a happy ending. On top of the story mode is the Hero Challenge mode which is a straight up fight against the twelve characters from the arcade. Most of the secret characters however are restricted to the latter mode only and the three boss characters aren't playable in any form, unless you own a gameshark or Xploder disc. Despite that the game is packed full of extra content from VMU and mini-games, to a full artwork gallery and plenty more as well. Jin Saotome and Blodia II are only available in the Dreamcast version, you buy them from the Tatsumi Techno Dome after unlocking their purchase option from the VMU mini games.
It's a shame most modern games don't have this degree of extra and unlockable content. As a fighting game it's a bit middle of the road, first time fighting fans will love it for the over the top moves and the easy to remember and use controls. Veteran fighting fans on the other hand likely won't get much out of it as the combat is overly simple. Balancing is all over the place with the different characters and the final attack move that allows you to one shot you opponent is activated way too quickly in a fight. If you're a mecha fan or have played Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Guilty Gear to death and want something different then this is the fighter for you. In 2001 a matching service version was released with online play.

What cheat code?
How would the pilots look when they're out of the suits fighting?
This game is so freaking awesome.

Of all the games I have missed from selling my Dreamcast, this is the game I miss the most :( This game was a love letter to the mecha and super robot genre. Why this game never came out for the Gamecube with GBA support or ANY other game console since I will never know. Thanks for the video!
Because Capcom made it specifically for the Dreamcast platform tailor made, just as Namco did the original Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast.original
It's a classic Dreamcast game through and through, like their Power Stone series.
It also has Dreamcast only functions like the Visual Memory System.
Poor sales..that's why
@@tom11zz884 If true, that is a very sad thing. Back in the day, I also remember seeing this game in the arcades and it was virtually identical to the Dreamcast port. Too bad more people did not get to experience this gem of a game.
@@tom11zz884 To be honest, I blame the name. I avoided it at first when I saw it in the shop because it said "Romancer" and as a child I was sure that meant it was for sissy girls with cooties. Luckily I managed to overcome my fear of the name and bought it, but still when I tried to tell friends how good it was, everyone just laughed at the name.
Glad to see Jin from Cyberbots!
This game is alot cooler than I thought. My initial impression was this was just another 3d brawler but now it really has grown on me and quite quickly too! I notice alot of the pre-rendered backgrounds and the "endless" stage foreground which was common back in the 90s such as in other fighting games like Tekken.
I am left to womder what Capcom was thinking with this game, they could have easily made another fighting game like Cyberbots but I guess they decided to try something new. It's too bad though that the CPS3 system gathered dust while Capcom moved on to other things. Still, looking at the gameplay for Tech Romancer, I am very impressed. I wonder what a Beat em up or Hack and slash using this style of graphics and hardware from back then would have looked like. It's odd that the fighting genre continued on but the Beat Em Up fell into disuse.
The announcer in the beginning said "mmmTECH ROHHHMANCER!!!!" LOL
Its year 2021 , there no more games like this with this music with this anime with this love..... everything is lost
Man you're killing me :(
It's true. Grew up in this era with these kind of games. My buddies and I have a saying when we plays these games and watch those anime shows of yester-year... "They DON'T make'em like THIS anymore."
Super Robot Wars 30?
FACTS
Man I miss the old Capcom. Games like this one reminds me of their old promo arts, awesome variaty of games and so much more. Now? While not that bad, it is still sad that they only reduced their variaty to usually only 2 (Resident Evil and Monster Hunter) while their other IPs were totally forgotten. I really wish they would go back to this and be experimental with both old and new IPs like they used to in the 80s to late 2000s (90 and 2000s were their best years and that is a fact)and not just over rely on just 2 IPs.
Yes, Capcom have really fallen like Konami with their output. They are becoming a shadow of themselves. You would expect to see a lot more download games similar in style, but all we have now are emulator collections and often they are missing many of Capcom's key games.
@@RandomisedGamingUA-cam oh boy at least Capcom is still relavent but Konami? Not anymore. Eitherway they are both stubborn than a mule.
Agreed
I miss the capcom that made a variety of awesome games that weren't just monster hunter, resident evil and street fighter
Yes same here, their output has really slowed to the point that we can see it becoming very very stale. The more recent Resident Evil and Street Fighter games haven't been as good as earlier installments either we felt.
Lol, Twinzam put more of a fight than the main character. I can imagine Jin saying to Junpei: "Move aside little boy!"
😭 good memories
Blodia II, is that the person in marvel vs capcom 2?
Yes it is indeed Jin Saotome and Blodia II who appears in Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & 2
TEKWOMANSER!
Este juego es adictivo :v, uno de mis favoritos :3
Bolon & Pollin gave you a hard time haha! That was always the challenge for me too, forget Goldibus! Once you've beaten Bolon & Pollin it's plain sailing! Or perhaps Quverl was also a worry if you are Wiseduck and can't jump to dodge those annoying floaty things that shoot you up.
Also 9:46 is it wrong that all I was ever able to hear when he says that is "f&ck a lady"?
0:56 wait a minute, so Ashe from ZX Advent were based on this character? they have the same energy
Can anyone tell me how to use Blodia II?? Can’t search anything on internet
Check out the guides on gamefaqs, he's only available in the Dreamcast version, you buy from the Tatsumi Techno Dome after unlocking from the the VMU mini games: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/dreamcast/250630-tech-romancer/faqs (May be different in Japanese version)
Does the pilots fight the same way when they're out of the suits??
The pilots don't appear in-game, only in cutscenes and as 2D graphics. Jin Saotome pilot of Blodia II was a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom however.
@@RandomisedGamingUA-cam Understood.

Final boss: Black Gurren Lagann
Wtf? This was a crossover from different anime worlds?
It's mean't to look like one but it's not, as all the characters were designed for this game, it's a send up or homage to various Japanese anime and manga robots.
@@RandomisedGamingUA-cam 1:19 I swear they copypasted that robot from Macross, even if the pilots and symbols not, that why I asked.
@@spacewargamer4181 As per the description, Shōji Kawamori did all the robot designs in this game he also worked on almost every Macross series every made.
@@RandomisedGamingUA-cam I see.
its demul
Nope, please see the description no emulator used for this video, this is a live Dreamcast capture using VGA. The current Dreamcast emulators just aren't that good.
