  • This must be the cheapest GSM module that you can buy. With a little bit of attention to the power supply, it works well.
    In this video I connect it via USB to a PC and experiment with sending and receiving SMS messages.

    actually the diode is used to lower the voltage to about 3.3v by utilizing the voltage drop.

    Thanks for great tutorial, does it support sleep mode and what average current when idle ?

      The M590 hardware manual says that it can sleep and the current is 2.5mA. It's not clear to me from the hardware or AT command manuals if sleep mode can be switched on and off.

    As I live in the UK and they are going to do away with 2g-3g, I am looking for 4g any suggestions?

      I haven't invested in one yet, but mean to do that on the channel at some point. Although there is some hurry to phase out 3G, 2G looks to be here for a while since it is used widely in smart meters. Changing those over to NB-IoT would be a massive cost.
