- I bought a new to me Cat 305E2 mini excavator. In this video I do a walk around of it, and I start digging a hole, and I load it up on my tilt trailer. I will have more videos of working on this machine in the near future.

Mike, the rating for your trailer is a sticker on the tongue...GVWR... it is around 14k for your trailer. Also look at the GVWR and GVCW for your truck and trailer. Your excavator is ~12K, with extra buckets you were wise to reconsider load. With machine over 10k you need four independent tie downs.. and one on the bucket...
yes, you are correct! i bought another larger trailer. I will post soon on it.
Robert Cook, according to FMCSA and the DOT you don’t need four chains until you get up to 30K they only require two for his equipment weight. The way he’s using his two chains is like have four chains but he’s perfectly legal.
@@genecoppedge5972 yup. I've got the same one. I have a little KTM motorcycle strap I use to secure the boom to whatever is closest. It doesn't specify how big a strap... Just that it needs to be secured lol.

Jus curious... have you found a good trailer for it ? ... I’m in the same boat... can’t seem to find one that’s just big enough and don’t require a bigger truck ...
So. Just FYI at least in pa. DOT will fail if you use the blade as tie down point. It needs to be tied down separate since they consider it a attachment.

Go with a gooseneck 9k axle tandem trailer. Gvwr 18000lbs, No worries on the highway.

I like it. I also looked at Komatsu and Yanmar. I don't think the Cat is the most balanced, but it ended up being the best deal.
Do you need a CDL class A to tow this setup??
Hi Mike, im new to the channel. I have a 2020 chevy 2500 gas towing about the same setup as you. Its 14k trailer with about 11600lb machine but no buckets. How did ur truck feel up to higher speeds. When i get up to 45-50 the feels a little wandering in the rear. I load center of the machine about 1 ft foward of the axles plus boom foward. The blades back. I think i have too much weight on the truck. Is your truck gas? And what did you do for a trailer upgrade. Id love to go gooseneck for a peace of mind.

We just sold one in New Zealand for half the purchase cost with 4000hrs on it
The price would have been great cause I've tried finding the new prices on cat and they just don't have them available, not like Kubota .
People do this with dirt bike too , telling the price paid would help buyer greatly .

Does it make more sense to buy a different trailer or put larger axles under that one? They do make 8k axles that should bolt right in I bet
As long as ur not pulling it all the time or far should be ok. My gooseneck is 14kgvw and it weighs 5300 empty. Ive had a 11500 pound machine on it and im only over by bout 1200 pounds.
Mike, hoping you can assist me. Just bought a 303 c cr Mini. Runs great but the previous owner removed all of the hydraulic lines without labeling them. There must be 75 lines lol We hav some installed but the sticks are running everything in reverse of what they should be. Hoping maybe you could direct me to a schematic or diagrams of how all these hoses should run? Thank you in advance Brian Ward!
What length is your trailer
15' tilt + 4' flat. 19' total deck length
A 305 with what I'm sure are 7K axles....nice mini ex but not sure that is the right trailer for that size machine. But I'm just some idiot on youtube comments section.

@@dobronos yea that trailer at 14k with the weight of trailer would have at least been maxed out. A good 22k tandem is what you need. I imagine that's what you ended up buying
