The Soothsayer even points out to Shen later that his parents loved him very much and that banishing him ended up killing them because of their grief and guilt. But Shen rebukes this information and continues to hang on to his false belief that his parents hated him and always did because he wants to feel like he’s the victim. It’s honestly sycophantic behavior and shows just how well Shen’s character was written.
