Also one of my favorite Nightwish songs, trough whole their history. While "Music" was perfect opener to the album, this is perfect way to end it. A musical journey from first to last song. Nightwish is very creative and innovative band. I hope Tuomas can write also in future this way!
Agreed. The album is definitely a journey. It doesn't evoke the raw power of an album like Dark Passion Play or Imaginaerum, but is a much more mature story and performance.
This album is just plain incredible! The more I listen to it, the more I hear. Beautiful! This is likely my favorite. Marco's voice is insane on this, so haunting!
Thank you for showing Marko some love. Sometimes with all the hype surrounding Floor, it is easy for people to overlook Marko's vocals. Some of Nightwish's best music has Marko as the lead. My only criticism of this song, is that the orchestral violin "dance" as you called it, and the "endlessness" chorus is too short! That 1 minute is the best minute of Nightwish in my opinion. You got the theme right. It is a continuation to the theme of the Greatest Show on Earth, which tells us to celebrate being alive despite the infinitesimally low odds. This song tells us to live our live to the max (harvest reference) and then let go to become one with the infinite universe. That we are a miniscule part of something beyond our comprehension. He and Floor are like Port and Stilton. The are great on their own, but they go together superbly. Whether he is backing her, or vice versa, you are in the presence of greatness. But we must not forhet Troy. Bringing him forward on this album has given Tuomas extra room, creatively speaking.
Funny that you mention tears. Lots of reactors and Subs including me regularly tear up during Nightwish songs. I'v never had that with any other band in my 56 years on the planet. Despite their complex musical arrangements NW know how to push the emotional nuclear button and suck you into their world. Marko is the man!

However, "Endlessness" and "Harvest" share the 2nd place for me mostly because of the lyrics and storytelling plus vocals. This is what Marko/Marco has said about this song: “It’s a song about a universe, or actually a multiversal force, so grand, so majestic, that it actually binds and permeates everything. All of our lives are just tiny particles in this mighty flow. And then there’s this mere human vocalist, and his friend, a human being as well, has written a story. Since you've gotten through the current material, is it time to go back and explore their past? many fall into the trap where they get spoiled by the highly produced and almost overdone new style of their music, and can't go back and enjoy the more straightforward rocking metal of the early years.
This song is superb. I am just not sure its the best to close the album. I mean its not so easy to fully invest emotionally in it after previous 8 if you listen through-out full disk.Because closer to end you get emotionally exhausted, so if it was me i would put it on place 6 or 7.
but it is the end of everything? Would seem odd in the middle of the cd for me from a story point of view even though it isn't a concept album as such I think the first track and last track have to be in those spots and everything else can go wherever. From a listening point of view well you can listen to things in any order you like particularly on your 100th or so listen :D
