I used to shrink myself so that I don’t overshadow my friends. I’ll dress down, I’ll speak less . Not ANYMORE!! I mean , have you seeen meeeee!!! Have you seen how I look. Now when I enter the room you can feel my presence even without me saying a word ! And if my persona doesn’t look approachable to you then you shouldn’t be approaching me in the first place !!

What you went through in high school is what I’m going through now at work. People hate to see you confident and self loving. They translate confidence as stubbornness and pride. They want to validate you by all means so when you’re not asking for it they’re mad. They can stay mad 🙂

Wow, yesterday I uploaded a video discussing how I boost my self-esteem. Most often self-esteem is not extreme. Most of us go through highs and lows. No human is always in a state of high and that's why we need a little boost now and then, 😆.
Great tips! ❣❣ A lot of things cause low self-esteem such as weight, skin color, economic status, chronic illness, etc.

I used to be very confident, and rather as I grew up, I began to feel like I had to tone myself down to avoid intimidating or offending other people. And that's now made me have lower self-esteem sometimes, and I really struggle with validation from outside myself. You're right, Kamsi. Don't pay mind to anybody, tbh. I've been reading this book 'Your Erroneous Zones' and it has helped me greatly on this issue.

I'm actually a really shy person🥺...not entirely because of low self-esteem but because I criticize myself in my head even before someone else does so it doesn't bother me when they eventually do😩😩

Also, I totally agree with you that we should fake it until we make it. But one mistake I made while growing up was to thing arrogance was confidence. Thank God for growth. I now know better.
Confidence is when you feel good about yourself despite your weaknesses. You rate yourself. Your worth does not depend on the opinions of others. And confidence is when you're very sure of yourself.
Thank you so much for this Kamsi!
    Love you girl!

This is what I've been saying... You need to compliment yourself.. a lot of people go into depression or have mental illness cuz of the fact that they thrive on people's opinions about them or what people may say about them, so they try so hard to leave up to people's expectations which is eating the sanity of people nowadays. What they see or heard from social media is what they think people are, forgetting that we are all humans and we breathe the same air.

Wow! Kamsi. This video was very helpful.
As someone who had a very bad childhood, I dealt with low self-esteem real bad. But as I grew older, I knew that I had to come out of it. Nothing's perfect yet but I sure know that I love and rate myself regardless of what anyone has to say. I'm still struggling with people's opinions, but one thing I do is to always self evaluate myself, and when I know that I'm good, whatever anyone has to say doesn't matter.

For real Idk what to say. We think so alike. I used to be very confident in primary school but it dropped in secondary school because of my environment. I mean I was so confident that even when I wasn't doing so well in Science class, I was still determined that I could study Medicine. If for anything, my parents were the ones that didn't believe in me but that didn't stop me. Sha sha fast forward to university, my parents don't agree with what I'm studying because when they saw that I passed my WAEC, the same people that dissuaded me from studying Medicine were the same ones pressurizing me to go for Medicine and I'm just like, sorry it's too late because I'm not interested in studying Medicine anymore and I'm going to finish what I'm currently studying and not get another degree in Medicine so deal with it.

People mistake being quiet for being shy and in my head I'm just like 'Do you really expect me to be going round telling y'all that I'M CONFIDENT' If there's anything I've noticed it's that those seemingly noisy/extroverted people aren't that confident. They just use the whole talkativeness to cover up for it. It's so funny because I have never cared about what other people have to say about me except when they are trying to correct me. It's so funny because my parents think that I'm very timid because I don't just talk in public anyhow and they keep on telling me that I'm shy and I should work on it because I am very unlike my sister who isn't quiet and easily mingles with people in public. I honestly don't even care so I just leave my life because if anything, I built my confidence by myself because my parents aren't the most encouraging set of people.
P.S You are so lucky to have the kind of parents you had who did not make it seem like your life depends on your good result.
My parents just always made me grow up with that thinking and at this point of my life where I know that I'm not even planning on working in the corporate world like they are thinking, I am a very competitive person and I always like to push myself so I'm doing well for myself and not for them. Realising that my life doesn't revolve around them and their plans for me to get first class and go to do a 9-5 job. Anytime I talk about what I wan and my dad doesn't seem happy with it, if it was in the past, I'd be scared to talk and be bothered but right now, I'm seeing people all over the world livin' their dream and I'm definitely not gonna stop chasing my dreams whether or not anyone believes in me including my parents because I was having this convo with one of my friends that when your parents who were previously not in support of you see that you are making it, they'd be the same ones to be coming to encourage you like they did when they saw that I passed my WAEC. I'm sorry if this is long and it feels like I am oversharing, but I just felt like narrating my experience. Thanks so much for this Kamsi

Well I grew up in an environment where my mum complained about everything. My mom is the most negative person I have ever met and that negativity transcends to me. My mum is also a bully and derives joy in saying condescending things to me and my sis. She would say things like were short and then she'll brag about how everyone from the side of her family is tall and we took from our fathers side. When I was insecure about looks when I was younger due to depression so I wasn't really taking care of myself, she noticed and started using it to make jokes or insult me. She will say things like you look like a man or call me man back or man shoulders. She would call my sister dwarf because my sister is insecure about her height. Whenever a visitor comes to our house like our cousins or family friends or even house maids she would compare them to us and would call us failures in front of them. When I tell you my mum isn't a critic but a big Bully she doesn't do any of these things because she wants to correct us, I can tell she does all of that because she's a narcissist derives joy from mocking us. My mum is also a control freak loves telling us what to wear, what to do etc she also said we can never be independent in her house. She locked us away from society growing up and didn't really allow us socialize. We were only allowed to leave the house when we turned 19 and now I'm 21 she wants me to be street smart loool. Anyways this isn't a rant just wanted to post my own story so that people can be aware of it. She has done worse more even sexually but I won't get into that I'm actually confused as an adult because of my upbringing and also kind of insecure with suicidal thoughts but hopefully it shall pass.

For those with supporting parents, kneel down and thank GOD because toxic parents surely exist

Sorry I have to streamline this to men but really, setting boundaries helps to prevent you from a lot of nonsense from men. Women may feel that it's when you lower your standards that it helps to keep the man but in actual fact, it doesn't and if for anything, men love women that know their worth and won't settle, meaning that they don't care whether you leave or stay. If anything, when because you want to be nice, you keep on tolerating things from men for instance, they keep on doing it because noone is going to help you to raise the bar for your standards. Infact, the lower it is the better for them. And if there is one thing I have learnt about these men, it is that, when they do something that you don't like and you tell them in a calm way to avoid fighting, they never listen. I had an experience with one guy. He was always so sexual in the dm's and I told him that I didn't like it and he stopped for sometime and then continued and I told him politely to stop and he stopped and the next time he still did it and I then lashed out on him. He was then telling me that I always make him feel like a pervert anytime he starts talking sexual. It was at that point that I knew that he was sick and very manipulative and thought that I was going to buy that because what, I'm a fool? I just told him straight up. 'I've told you severally before now that I don't like this thing and you kept on doing it, thinking it was cool and now I'm lashing out and you're trying to make me feel like a bad person? It's obvious there's something wrong with you. If you are not used to girls giving it to you hot, then you should really stop texting me cuz the least you could actually do to show that you respect me is actually to stop doing what I tell you that I don't like that you do'
