Gayle this is so helpful, you are so kind to show using the basting stitch way to hem. I have ironed in an extra fold for years for blind hemming and this looks like a much more accurate way to do the blind hem. I am a man and hem my own pants and your video is a big help. Thank you Gayle.
Awesome tutorial! I only needed one practice run and then successfully hemmed 4 pair of pants in one evening. They look as nice (maybe even nicer??) as when I used to pay a tailor to do this for me. Thanks for teaching me a new skill!!
The hot hemmer (HH)is fantastic tool. Perfect tool for FPP when coupled with Add a quarter ruler. Want crisp 45 degree bends in your binding? Press them using the HH ruler. It is also a great general purpose measuring and marking tool as it is lightweight and accurate. Another great fine, strong poly thread is Wonderfil's Decobob (80wt) and Invisifil (100wt)
I have never seen a better instructional on this foot. I feel a little more confident about doing it, but am still quite nervous if that makes sense. I have always hemmed pants by hand because I never understood the use of this foot. Cross your fingers for me.
Thank you for your comment. The pants had a large opening and I didn’t think it was necessary. I wanted to focus on the blind hem rather than the overlocking. We also did not use the free arm on the sewing machine because of my decision mentioned above.
Hi Gail. I tried to use that foot & I think I used the wrong plate because the needle broke! After the machine refused to sew! So which plate do we use?
@@angelaschapiro4268 if you are using the straight stitch plate with a tiny hole, how do you expect to do a wider stitch that is over 1mm wide with it? Straight stitch or 0mm plate is only for a straight stitch. Please visit your dealer and take your owners classes.
You rock! Been quilting for over 30 years on Berninas and never hemmed pants. I’m ready thanks to you, thank you!
Nice!
I’m also impressed the 10 yo slacks still fit, lol ❤️
I just purchased the L 890. So smooth!

Hands down the best blind hem tutorial I’ve seen!! Have used this for my husbands suit pants and a formal dress!!

Again, a wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much for all you do. Oh, btw. I love that quilt with the black cat in the background.
We’ll done, thanks!

First time watching your videos. You're hilarious. You remind me of a cross between Mary Tyler Moore and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia!)
Awe thank you. I have heard the Carrie Fischer reference a lot in my life.
Great tutorial.
I would like to hire Bernina ...Does she do windows?
I’m really glad I found your videos! Bernina or not!

Thanks for the video.
Thanks!
Very nice
Thanks so much !!!
I didn't get how you folded the pants before stitching the hem?

Since you are doing a cuff, why didn't you utilize the free arm feature of the L890?

@@angelaschapiro4268 the widest stitch plate for your machine
There is the straight stitch plate & the 9mm embroidery one (purple mark). My machine is B590. Which is wider? The embroidery one?
@@angelaschapiro4268 O mm is straightstitb. 9mm is the other. Which number is larger? The larger number is the wider stitch plate.
Thank you. So I did use the right one. I just bought the B590 a few months ago. Learning.
