- In this episode of The Simpsons Theory, I was inspired by the MCU movie, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as well as Spider-Man: No Way Home. It made me wonder if there is also a Simpsons multiverse. What if Springfield existed within a different dimensions and that there were other Simpsons universes and characters.

This could be used to explain the shifting timeline. In one universe Marge & Homer met in the 70s, in another universe they met in the 90s. You can even use this for Simpsons seasons - The Ulman Shorts, Season 1, Early Simpsons, Late Simpsons, and Disney Simpsons can all be seen as their own realities.
I was thinking the same thing. It's been 30+years and the Simpsons remain the same but the story always change.
I agree but there is a loophole here - the very few episodes that reference others.
@@queerqueenstan That's not really a loophole. There could be multiple episodes in the same universe. And similar events could have happened in other universes. Infinite diversity and all that.

I think Mr Snrub might have been a doppelgänger from another universe. Some people think this was Mr Burns, but if that was the case, why did Smithers (probably the person who knows Burns best) not point that out?
Also let's not forget that weird time when Milhouse blamed Santa's Little Helper for eating his goldfish, when as Bart explained, he never actually had any. Clearly Milhouse had switched places with a parallel universe equivalent who did have goldfish in that bowl he kept.
Why else would he have the bowl?
Also Guy Incognito could be from that same parallell universe
Who knew The Simpsons can have many Multiverses when it comes to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Multiverses where The Simpsons family are fish, robots, zombies, veggies, and more? That's so cool!

I've been running with a variant of this theory for years. In my headcanon, each (production) season of the show takes place in its own universe, hence explaining all the discrepancies and the seemingly floating timeline. Don't really feel the need to make every doppelganger an interuniversal visitor, though; the world of _The Simpsons_ is chockful of absurdity even if taken as a single universe.

I always thought a good Simpsons sequel could be a multiversal "Crisis in Infinite Springfields".
That could be the name for a TOH episode tho'
Ya know, this got me thinking of a potential 750th episode that would tie directly into this theory. I call it "Crises on Infinite Springfields". (Guess where I got that title from)
In it, something strange is going on in Springfield. Namely, characters long thought dead are suddenly coming back to life. Mrs. Krabapple, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Maude Flanders, you name it! And the strangest part is that they don't even act like they have ever left! At a town meeting, Professor Frink puts forth the theory that this Springfield is only one of Thousands of Springfields, and that everything has gotten so bloated that all the Springfields are starting to collapse in on themselves. This theory is naturally laughed off until their laughter is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Waylon Smithers. More accurately, *Homer's Odyssey* Waylon Smithers (To quote Mr. Burns, "Smithers, why are there two of you and why is that one black?")
On their way to Frink's lab, the other Smithers explains that, as Frink predicted, the multiple universes on which every Springfield resides are collapsing. He comes from universe 7G03, which had just collapsed that morning. However, he was able to escape through a random tear in his fabric of reality, ending up in the reality of this episode. Now it's up to the Simpsons, their remaining counterparts, and those of the entire cast to figure out what is going on and stop this calamity before it's too late!

What if Bart turned Lisa in, at the end of the episode Separate Vocations?
What if Homer was convicted of killing Maude Flanders, in the episode Alone Again, Natura-Diddily?
What if Bart had sued the city of Springfield for wrongly putting him on trial, in the episode Bart the Murderer?
What if Bart had remained emancipated, in the episode Barting Over?
We have only grasped at a small amount of Lydia's true power

I’ve thought of a Simpsons multiverse as an explanation for the show’s contradictions with timelines, time periods, and character ages. Some episodes take place in a 90’s universe, some in a 2010’s universe for example

So...the Transformers couch gag could potentially be an entire Simpsons alternate universe.
This makes me want a Homer Optimus Prime figure based on the couch gag.
Just makes me think that there is a multi-verse in the simpsons where moe the cat lady and every other sad character Has a happy ending it makes me wonder what else could be out there

I love these videos. The Simpsons is my favorite show
The problem with their being a Simpsons multiverse is the same as all series that introduce a multiverse. There are now infinite identical copies of all our favourite characters in the multiverse, so all stakes and tension are gone.
A character died an emotional and dramatically satisfying death? Don't worry! An exact copy is still alive in the multiverse! Heroes win? Doesn't matter because they lost horribly in the multiverse! Of course, The Simpsons is mostly a comedy show, so stakes aren't the most important thing to it's appeal, but the dramatic reduction made inescapable by introducing alternate universes is an unavoidable criticism.
You're totally right when it comes to the Marvel and DC universes, but like you said, The Simpsons don't have much stakes anyway. Plus they'll never address it on the show 🙂

you are totally wrong and dont comprehend how this all works . Different variants may as well be different people on different timelines if a character dies that character doesnt come back in that version and is pretty much dead and any attempt to use time travel to reverse that event creates a split and the event in question still happened and that universe still feels that loss .

Grew up in a really conservative Christian house here in the Bible belt… Music wasn’t really allowed in the house much less television 😂🤷♂️

Definitely going to be using the multiverse theory to dismiss the "real Seymour Skinner" as just a Skinner variant from an alternate universe from now on. Or that the whole episode was set in an alternate universe entirely. But, seriously, this is a really interesting theory.
The way the intro segment ended was unintentionally rather amusing; "you guys have been asking me for more theories, so why not disclose my biggest and most wildest one yet?... I'm Lydia" Really? I never would have guessed from all your other videos! XD
fun fact: the character of Roy from the Poochie episode was meant to appear in the time and punishment segment as the eldest son of the Simpsons

I forgot what episode it was, but I assume it was Itchy & Scratchy Land episode, where the Simpson's were on a road trip as Homer gets tired behind and then we see the car crash into a streetlight and go up in flames as we then see Bart looking out a hotel window saying "I'm glad that wasn't us" I've been wondering if that really was the Simpson's with the drouzy Homer behind the wheel that we just fallow during a cutaway while the Simpson's at the hotel were the one's we've been following throughout the episode (which I see being more likely to happen) or that the Simpson's we started that episode with were the one's to crash into the streetlight and then the Simpson's at the hotel just happen to pick up where they left off

So many possibilities. Head Vampire Marge, Eleven Lisa, Dinosaur Grampa, King Kong Homer, Shinning Bart...

There's a Multiverse and then there's the Omniverse and the Omniverse includes this reality as well. That means we could travel to The Simpsons universe if the Omniverse is real.

Great video! The multiverse is growing in popularity. I always wanted to know that topic. Family Guy really started my interest with that episode back in 2009. I like more shows and movies to do stuff like these. The possibilities are endless. Every possibility exist. I mean ANYTHING!

Most simpsons episode are just it’s own episode some get references later but most of them run on there pwn so what if every episode is in a different universe that look the same as each one

That could even explain inconsistencies in the Simpsons lore. For example, perhaps the principal and the pauper is in an alternate universe to most other Simpsons episodes.
I definitely hope there is a Simpsons multiverse who knows this could be the idea for a Simpsons movie if they ever get the chance to try to do one since two road to the multiverse that's something I would enjoy seeing.
i like seeing the different versions, but i just don't put that much thought into it.

the best multiverse arc i ever saw was "teen titans go" because they could pull in actual other versions, like the more serious "teen titans" and comic book versions.

I assumed that all of the Homer look-a-likes were just a result of Abe spreading his genes back in the days. And that the Bart and Lisa look-a-likes were the offspring of Homer's half siblings.
However, I do support the multiverse theory since that is basically the only thing that would make the show make sense with all it's inconsistencies.

There was an outtake from the “Time and Punishment” segment where the Simpson house is made entirely out of squirrels. It proved to be too expensive/difficult to animate, so it was scrapped. There are a few cels and storyboard sketches floating around that depicts it though. Look into it if you have time 😉
I'm glad they didn't end the show with "Holidays of Future Passed". There are a lot of reasons why: They didn't reveal the father of Maggie's daughter, Maggie didn't say anything, Patty and Selma ended up being single, Apu was still voiced by a white person and Mr. Burns STILL didn't die.

Kind of a bit off topic, I gotta say I wasn’t really a big fan of the new Simpsons episode that came out last week at all. That had John Lithgow as guest star. It started off as a Krusty episode, then grampa and Lisa. Kind of got too confusing for me sorry.

This goes with my theory about how pretty much every episode is in a different universe which is why when crazy things happen that change something then it is just forgotten about in the next episode but there are some episodes that are in every universe like Lisa the vegetarian and Lisa the Buddhist

I have the theory that every season we see a completely different simpson family that only looks exactly like previous year's simpson family, possibly also taking place in a different city named springfield, meaning there could be more than one springfield just like in real life.
Oh yeah, that's also why we don't see them age.
Not only do the teenage mutant turtles and spiderman have these multiverses, but i've noticed that the teen titans do too. But alot of shows have these, as well as books, so it's not entirely a surprise that the creators of the simpsons would do the same. Still really cool though!
