    Kate is REALLY smart for recruiting old companions. The Doctor chose them all for a reason, as they each stand apart from the human race in SUCH unique ways. How could you not want them on your team?

    I don't know if you saw, but on the topic of Shirley being an ambulatory wheelchair user: She moved her leg at one point in the Star Beast and an anti-woke loser (aren't they all?) started ranting about how this proved she wasn't really disabled and they were just checking boxes in a rush to do forced representation (etc, etc). They were very silent after it was pointed out that ambulatory wheelchair users, i.e. Shirley's actress Ruth Madeley, exist.

      Oh my gosh 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ So frustrating. But this representation is hopefully a good continuation of the conversation. Some people are really stuck in their ways some with good intentions and some not. But the more we talk about it (hopefully) the more people will be educated and aware.

      Yeah, that's ignorant as fuck. I've known two wheelchair users in my life who are capable of walking, but one look at them when they do makes it pretty damn obvious why they are in a wheelchair. They can walk, but it does not look pleasant for them at all.

  • @EvilSoupDragon

    The wheelchair ramp was added because RTD was talking to a fan that uses a wheelchair, and they mentioned how much they liked the Tardis, even though as a wheelchair user they couldn’t enter it. RTD resolved to fix this and added the ramp.
    The fan in question runs a UA-cam channel under the name of Tharries, and I’d highly recommend his channel to you.
    The 14th Doctor won’t be reappearing, which has been confirmed by RTD, and my feeling is the spin-off will be based on UNIT. I can’t see them creating a character like the vlinx, only to use them for a couple of throwaway lines.
    One piece of advice: don’t worry about whether people will like your opinion. The sad truth is that the bigger you get as a channel the more hateful comments you are likely to see, and there’s simply no way you can cater to everyone.
    Be your own unique self, and be unapologetic for being who you are.
    I know that is easier said than done, as anxiety about other people is the reality of content creation, but there are people out there who live to be offensive, and the best thing to do is ignore them, as attention just feeds them.
    Love your channel, and sorry for the lecture.

      Thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate your thoughts. And wow! So cool about the story behind the ramp, I actually am subbed to Tharries and have been for a while I had no idea it was him that got RTD to incorporate the ramp. That’s so awesome ☺️

      @EvilSoupDragon 6 місяців тому +4

      @@Damaged7 Not necessarily. Electric wheelchairs especially struggle to manage even small steps, and even with a manual wheelchair there’s a chance of toppling. I guessing the K-9 reference is satire as we never actually saw him get in and out of the Tardis. 😉

    One way to interpret the Doctor saying he's never been happier is the difference between momentary happiness and contentment. The Doctor may have been happier in the moment, but he's never been as content as he is now that he can just rest.
    I think the Vlinx is basically what the Doctor was in UNIT's early days, but seen by the audience from the outside, an incredibly advanced alien who uses a title instead of a name, who somehow ended up on Earth and is just being helpful. It's the same situation, just being viewed from a different perspective.

    See, RTD? You don't have to eliminate disability from an evil character. You can just create a new disabled character who isn't evil!

    • @jakeoliver9167
      @jakeoliver9167 2 місяці тому +1

      When did he do that? The comic relief special was set extremely early in the war, even way before genesis of the daleks, before davros was mutated. So was just showing davros before he became disabled. And when Russell mentioned about the future, he didn't mean literally erasing wheelchair davros, he meant this early non disabled davros is how we should view him in our heads. Evil Nazi like guy. Rather than evil disfigured Nazi guy in a wheelchair. The route James bond films go down constantly. And if it was to change in the future, he would get out of the wheelchair, not the past being erased. My theory is that the time Lord energy from series 9 healed davros enough to recover somewhat. And we will see a partially disfigured, but not wheelchair bound davros in the future. But Russel wouldn't just erase it and that's definitely not what he meant. He made sure the toymaker was only referred to as the toymaker and not the "celestial" toymaker due to it being a slur... But he still referenced the history by including the line "we can be, celestial". He progresses, he doesn't erase.

    • @SuperCookie64
      @SuperCookie64 2 місяці тому +2

      @@jakeoliver9167 But he literally said he did it because it was apparently offensive and "this is how we see Davros now", when he could've just fixed the apparent problem by creating non-evil disabled characters, like he just has. Also, this move implies that it's impossible for a disabled person to be evil, which is completely untrue.

    I don't know if anyone has already answered this for you, but there is a theory: The 14th regenerates in the future, when it should actually regenerate. And, in his first moments as 15th, he is pulled into the past. Then, he ended up during the fight between 14th and Toymaker. What makes it clear that 15th came from 14th's future is that he says he's fine because 14th stopped to fix himself. He could only be okay and know why this happened if he came from the future, since, until that moment, the 14th hadn't stopped. At the end of The Giggle, he's heading to the exact spot he was, seconds after he disappeared. And if you think about it, bigeneration. Bi. The same incarnation regenerated twice: Once, in The Giggle and once in the future.

    • @thestarsthemselves.
      @thestarsthemselves.  6 місяців тому +5

      Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I have heard that theory. And also the theory that 14 ends up becoming the curator from the 50th anniversary. Both theories I’m open to and I think either of them would make this bigeneration a lot more meaningful to me

My primitive brain initially thought he was faking or something, which I considered a bit creepy. However, after watching this Doctor Who episode and your reaction as well, I know better. There is a lot of confusion surrounding the bigeneration, but after listening to the commentary and rewatching it seems like the 14 doctor will continue to live with Donna, healing emotionally, eventually regenerating into 15 and at that moment will be transported via the toymaker interference to bigenerate. I don't know if this completely makes sense but were not supposed to treat it like Tennant will have his own spinoff or is the "real" doctor in comparison.
    I think another great point someone made online is that there isn't 1 doctor, there are potentially 15+ doctors because as a time traveler there all constantly travell all over time and space and overlapping their existence all the time.

    Loved the reaction and understand some of your concerns, but also I loved the disability representation. And even more that Shirley being able to use her legs in a limited way was jumped upon in the Star Beast by some awful fans and then became a point in this episode.
    Personally I loved this episode (and the three episodes as a whole) to bits.
    One small point... the very first on-screen regeneration from William Hartnell to Patrick Troughton the Doctor's outfit also changed, so what happened in the Power of the Doctor actually was not without precedent.
    And I didn't have a problem watching Ncuti running around without pants (or trousers as we call them - for us pants are his boxer shorts). He may be the first Doctor I've actually had some naughty thoughts about...

    The actress playing Shirley suffers from spinal bifida, hence the wheelchair
    Funny thing about why Ncuti is not wearing pants, if'n you look closely him and David are sharing a costume, they each are wearing exactly one-half of it
    Aside from thinking the made up word bi-generation is dumb, I think it's rather interesting idea and could explain both the Curator (50th anniversary special) and the Renegade Doctor, though they should've just called it bifurcation

    I absolutely love this episode, even though a month later I still don't know how I feel about the bi-generation. I think the toymaker was fantastic, Neil Patrick Harris had so much fun and it shows, especially in the Spice Up Your Life scene. he stole almost every single scene he's in in my opinion.
    For the disability representation I was so glad too, especially after seeing RTD talking about the reason for the Tardis accessibility. Doctor Who shines because in a way, thanks to the companions, we travel with the doctor. As an audience we are the companions, and seeing the Tardis accessible might make it easier for people in wheelchair to project themselves in the Tardis. I'd love to see Shirley back, coming in the Tardis even for a single episode.
    And you're right: it's amazing seeing an important character with a disability that doesn't force them in the wheelchair.
    As confession time, I have no physical disability. I learned I had ADHD as an adult a few month back. I've never been in a wheelchair besides the one time I was in hospital so I'm not gonna pretend I can understand what people in wheelchair live. That being said, seing positive representation AND adressing some misconception with wheelchair was in my opinion amazing. I loved seing you so happy thanks to that. It might not feel important to everyone, but seing your reaction was truly amazing.

    For me I never find regenerations jarring I always enjoy seeing them as a magical fantastic experiment to watch there's no other show that would have your leading main character die then change into someone else it's always sad your favourite actor is gone but at the same time I'm always excited to see the new guy or girl because underneath all that it's still the Doctor the same character but I will say I found the bi-generation very jarring this is probaly one of my least favourite of all the Doctor's regenerations I would had rather he just changed rather than splitting it felt like a real cop-out and I think it's abit too self indulgent and having Tennant around would overshadow and have all that baggage over Ncuti Gatwa and I don't think that's the best way to introduce your new star it also diminishes Tennant from the other Doctors and undermines all the other Doctors i mean i guess I'm happy maybe as a one-off new idea but I'm hoping it never happens again.
    That aside it was a great episode I loved Ncuti's entrance and his energy i thought Neil Patrick Harris did a fantastic job as The Celestial Toymaker and although I wasn't a fan of Mel Bush during her tenure in the 1980's because she was mostly known for her screaming RTD has written her better and was surprisingly good in this.

    So as a wheelchair user, I'll never be able to cosplay as Davros again. Thanks RTD! I LOVED going to comicon with a metal gauntlet on, in my electric wheelchair in full prosthetics doing the voices and cackle. But no, he had to take that AWAY from the disabled community.
    edit: saying i'll have to go as Professor X somehow is against community guidelines. Go figure!

      i think you still can, and you will still be recognized as davros. i mean people also still cosplay as past doctors for example and get recognized as them. i dont a character changing means you cant cosplay as past versions of them.
      pls do tell me if you think im wrong about this, these are just my thoughts about the subject, and its entirely possible in incorrect (:

      The Davros depicted in the Children in Need scene was Davros before the accident that caused his disabilities. It was a prequel. Wheelchair Davros hasn’t been erased from the history of the show so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be able to cosplay as him going forward. I hope that you ultimately feel that you can go as the character you love.

    I feel like the bigeneration is a cop out. The show’s ratings have gone down. Fan interest isn’t there like it was in the early 2000s. The fanbase is divided. One of the only things they could do to unite everyone is bringing back the most beloved Doctor since Tom Baker. It feels like they did this to have Tennant on deck as an “in case of ratings emergency, break glass” thing, like a way to keep lapsed fans interested. I LOVE David, he’s my Doctor, he’s one of my favorite actors working today, but the show desperately needs to move on from him if it’s going to survive. They can’t keep relying on nostalgia, because now it’s diminishing returns.

    YES to the Kilgrave mention! Tennant is maybe even better as a villain. Certainly as a character with more venom going on (Barty Crouch jr. being another example). Your reactions are so wholesome and genuine, thankyou once again!
