A four player carrier based ground attack mission in F-4U-1Ds. What can possibly go wrong?

Wow I can't believe this game is still out! I used to be addicted to this game over 15 years ago when I was a long haul truck driver. I carried a high-end gaming laptop with me and it really helped kill the long boring hours on layover away from home. But we didn't have a VR headset back then I'm going to have to build me a new rig and try this again.
I love this F4U Corsair and I had a relationship with Corsair # 23 which I used to greet with a wave upon his return from his mission after mission and I had to be on my gun ...( quad 14 )..on the USS Missouri, and I seem to have lost him at Okinawa......AND my gun captain was gunners mate 1st class.. Mr Caron from Sanford Maine.and my opposing first loader was Mr Sullivan from Indian Head Maryland.!!!!.

Oh WOW.!!! Wayland, Lee, I was on the USS Missouri in the fleet and we were neighbors in the fleet as I remember seeing the USS Essex with the utmost frequency. Glad to hear from you shipmate sailors of the Fleet.!

I noticed you where firing to late on most of your ground attacks! ....... You need to fire before you get to the target and let the rounds move with you onto the target ....You where firing AT the target and most of your rounds went beyond the target and into open ground.

Very entertaining loads of action, I loved the deck landings.
The Corsair requires a curved approach, on base to final, in fact it looks like a hook, with the straight part being down wind. The reason for this is poor visibility over the nose. This technique was pioneered by the Brits. Thanks for the video.
The Japanese air warning is awful and the ships are slow getting underway. This sort of sirfileld shootup was typical during the Pacific War. Good mission.
First and foremost, I loved the video.
I’d like to nit pick on two items. Admittedly I’m a nerd on this...
One....you won’t see a carrier showing smoke from the stacks. I learned this from the book “ Clear the Decks “ that was about escort carriers and written by the Captain of the USS GUADALCANAL. Though only an escort carrier, it was naval doctrine for all carriers to never release smoke from the stacks. ( the smoke could be controlled and if spotted, the captain would quickly call the engine room ). the reason ? At a distance, smoke can be detected quicker than the ship thus alerting submarines to the presence of targets.
Two. The Corsair, while a superior airplane, did not adapt quickly to carrier operations. The long nose during direct astern flight paths in caused blindness on carrier approaches resulting in disaster. As a result, the Marines used the Corsairs as land based fighters ( see Pappy Boyington and the Black Sheep ). It was the British who developed a new approach that gave the Corsair a new life on carriers. This new system was not the direct approach but a circular route around the pattern straightening only at the last few yards before the carrier deck. This new approach gave from the left hand turn, dipped the wing and allowed the pilot to evaluate the carrier deck the entire time and also see the signal officer the entire time as well.

I think you are right, I believe they did raise the seat. They probably had to lean over just to close the canopy.
I'm not sure if the did this, but I'd also think they'd keep the birds running in case they needed to move them fast. Not to mention line them all up as tight as they could on the starboard side of the foredeck to keep them out of the way of bolters.
My nitpicks:
The returning aircraft would fly the first pass past the carrier to see if the deck was clear for landing. Then they would enter the pattern and circle pattern until their turn to land. A returning aircraft would never fly straight in not knowing if the deck was open.
The fighter tactics for jumping bombers was unhistorical. There are several great WWII training films posted on youtube training pilots how to jump bombers. Good tactics were high speed passes to minimize exposure to the bomber's gunners. Pilots valued their lives very much.
Corsairs did not see active duty upon US carriers until December 1944. By then fleet carriers were active around Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Japan. The game map had too much of a South Pacific like jungle feel for any of the historical target areas of 1945.
Target priority selection should have been shipping first, then airfield. Cutting off the supply of food, water, fuel, parts, ammo, medicine, would do more damage to the airfield than taking out a dozen replaceable planes that could be transferred/flown in the next day. But a base without food, fuel, ammo, was useless.
Overall, nice video!! Looks like fun to play!!!

AND One other thing yeah he drank like a fish BUT be really Loved us and we ALL would have followed Pappy into The VERY pit of hell

And the reason for most (bolter's when landing) Is because the plane was to high on approach, and a bit to fast as well. The key is you come in low and slow until you touch down. the do to full throttle in case you missed the wire and need to go around. (called a Bolter)

I'm not a veteran but from what I've read about it WWII deck landings we're different due to the straight deck and many wires
For their approaches they came in the same but cut the power to slam onto the deck, the only chance you'd have to abort a landing is during wave off since other aircraft were parked on the Bow of the ship. Barrier men were ready in case of a skipped hook

That was a fuel leak, the engine was fine. There was no way for him to return anywhere.

Umm, no. Yamamoto was shot down by USAAF P-38 Lightnings. Rex Barber got him, not Thomas Lanphier, who just landed first, and said “We got him!”

Fishyyy, what version of 1946 is this? 4.12.2? BAT? And when/where do you fly co-op? Need any more pilots? This is right up my alley, and I’ve been flying sims since 1990. Love to join up some time, if possible. WWII PTO is my greatest area of interest, but I’ll fly anything.

Nope, I just chose a map and some airfield.
The morse code is subtitled, look at the top of the screen when it is send. The morse code is transmitted by the carrier homing system, it sends you one or two letters that indicate in which direction you are from the carrier. I made a tutorial on beacons and the carrier homing system, if you want to know how it works.

I really wish this was available on Windows 10. The main reason I never should have upgraded. Little did I know....

A dual boot OS might be an option. When I custom built a gaming PC for a friend of mine , I gave it two hard drives and had win7 on one and win10 on the other. At PC start up you just select what operating system you want to boot up.
Does load on win 10 you need to load it into second drive and run the drive without x86 backup in it .
@@andrewnorgrove6487 Can't you just install it on the same drive in Program Files but it's own folder outside the x86 folder? Or does that not work on win 10? (I don't have win 10)
