My life will never be the same.
Agreed! Very grateful for this masterpiece to remind me of my beloved aunt and grandmother.
Absolutely, gently beautiful. Don Pullen was so very good...died so young. He never hit a wrong note...
Pullen es uno de los pianistas mas destacados y originales del jazz moderno . Tenia una tecnica y un lirismo increibles. Bravo por el maestro!!!
I know that I'll never be able to hear all of the beautiful music ever written. But when the day comes that I leave this earth, I can go happy knowing that I've at least heard this one.
Simply the greatest piece of musical genius I have ever heard in my 55 plus years on this earth. It is my favorite of all time. I wonder how this melody came into his head. Perhaps he wrote this in order to get to see God Almighty. What more can I say!
I think so, too. It was always a religious experience to hear Don play, especially this song. He was my favorite pianist. He died far, far too soon, alas.
Pullen played with all his heart. And if someone is underrated, that would be him. His solo piano records are powerful as hell.
Fantastic song and performance! Nduduzo Makhathini's DownBeat Magazine Blindfold Test of 2023, where he greatly praised this beautiful Don Pullen song and performance, thankfully brought me here!
I read many of the comments. I forgot I commented already! Anyway, blessed to be part of this circle of life for me this morning :)
La tua musica e' sogno vita. Uno dei piu' brani che iiei occhi le mie orecchie hanno amato di più:Ti sia lieve la terra. Don
Don Pullen was, and still remains, one of my favorite musicians of all time. More than almost any other pianist, he was a master of the extremes - from serene beauty like this song to all-out free jazz excesses...and it all came across as totally gripping. May he rest in peace, wherever he is.
I just heard this piece for the first time 9/15/23 on WDCB in Chicago. I'm 68+ years old and am embarressed to say I'm unfamiliar with Don's solo work. I DID see him several times in the mid-70s with the great Mingus group! This tune just slays me.
Tomorrow I'll be looking for the CD.
Simply sublime. This is the music I want playing at my funeral--because I want it to be a time of celebration of our precious time on earth. Thanks Don for creating this masterpiece.
speaking to us all for ever about life.
1941-1995
I was sitting at a table at the Village Vanguard (I think it was Keith Jarrett trio) and Don Pullen was sitting at the next table with a date. I felt like I was sitting next to royalty.
you were....
I was all bothered by leaf blowers in my neighborhood, then I turned on the radio and it was this! I at first thought it was Edvard Greig, then I got an Ellington vibe. Thanks community supported radio!
thanks abee for sending me this love song to life.
its so damn good to be alive, isn't it?
peace and blessings.
from the first moment i heard this it was a revelation that defies judgement or even much discussion... epiphanous and sublime
how can anyone dislike this?
this is too beautiful to only have 81000 views. rest in peace don
Something so beautiful as
to bring tears to my eyes! RIP Mr Pullen!
what a beautiful piece of music. never fails to bring tears to my eyes everytime i listen to this tune.....thank you mr. pullen, for your truly remarkable music, god bless and rest in peace.
If I say Don Pullen is my favorite, for me, I see it like my favorite ice cream, which is anything custard. I see the wind, the storm, the drop of rain. I am just with my sensations as I hear Don Pullen, warm, sweet, dastardly all in one!!
Pure genius. Sublime. This is what I want playing in the background at my funeral--to celebrate the pure joy of our time on earth. Thanks Don for this masterpiece.
Words fail me when I hear such genius ... You are THEE master pianist!!!
i like the bop lines toward the end after the a sections or a1
Don Pullen is, without a doubt, my favorite pianist of all time.

So beautiful.
Stunning and heartbreaking. 💖
This is so good it moves me every time I hear it. Don thank you so much.
For this lover of good music (jazz), the left hand makes it really worth-while. Although the chord structure is a little repetitious...still...I'd certainly listen and ENJOY. Happy to recommend this piece! Donny C

So beautiful! Originally dedicated to Maurice Quesnell.
So beautiful. I wish there was video of him playing this.
There is a video of Mr. Pullen playing this song (google Don Pullen interview with Ramsey Lewis).:-))
Thank you very much for posting. This song is one of my very all time favourites since at least fifteen years, I only knew two versions, one with the afro-brazilian connection group, and other solo similar to this one but at same time very different. Pure magic

Uno dei più belli pezzi in assoluto immemso
I could not have said it better.
The range of ability that Don Pullen showed on the piano is amazing. From this absolutly beautiful piece to his work with George Adams and his last album were he combined Native North American Music with jazz. He was and still is incredible!
Genius grande D/on

Does anyone else recognise the theme from Lili Marlene?
Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music for this song?
Will Anderson Listen to it and play until you find it. Why wait?
Is this on an album somewhere?
This reminds me alot of KJ's Koln #1 the way it developes albeit in a more easy and less virtuosic manner
Neruda.
The demise of Don and George Adams saddens me everyday.
