Ahhh, Don; we hardly knew you! May you live on through recordings such as this and warm the souls of old and new fans of your beautiful philosophy of life that you expressed so well through your music.
I heard Don Pullen once, in Norrköping Sweden playing with Mingus, Addams, Walrath, Richmond. I can vividly remember Pullen's playing, the surprising phrases he would play and how he appeared so cool while playing on fire. Mingus was in a very good mood, humming and strumming, bowing and laughing. A fantastic evening. I will never forget Pullen.
@@michaelhoffman5486 five personalities on stage that night. 1975, it was snowing. Pullen was cool, Mingus relaxed and joyful, Addams confident, Walrath introvert, Richmond smart.
One reason for my enjoyment of this was that I only first heard of Don Pullen from Charles Mingus albums Changes, one and two.... the solo piano was breathtaking and so it is here. Just freaking majestic!! Thank you for this.
pullen is so composed and put together at the piano. relaxed but still very upright. i'll never reach that level but i'm aspiring to that kind of clearness in my playing so that people can understand what i say. but i'm just an amateur pianist, not even a professional.
Don Pullen was truly one of the greatest jazz pianists, maybe my favorite of all time. And this video rocks! Always loved this group and this tune. Thanks, paris0820!
A true musical genius. "Manic energy has rarely sounded this good". If you liked this, also check out "Indio Gitano" from "Random Thoughts". The NPR Jazz Blog named it one of the great 75 solos in Blue Note history. There's no question that Don Pullen had a touch for what Morton called the "Spanish Tinge". Thanks for sharing this!
All embracing performance, a real and substantial Ode To Life. A great favorite of mine, Don Pullen is being away from Planet Earth now for 25 years. Anyhow, the song was written by him and not by Kenny Dorham as the film states.
outstanding technique and form, to the nuckleheds please stop submitting unfounded crap about dons work, please post your own musical works and compare
don was the 2nd most incredible keyboardist of all time behind cecil well maybe art tatum as well cecil was in another universe don was on another planet

Great.Too bad the production people could not correctly spell Guilherme Franco's name!

Never forget that the piano is a percussion instrument.
😁😁😁 true, though funny the way you put it 😂
Love this!
Don Pullen
Powerful and uplifting stuff! Great players!
Stunning!!!

more interesting stuff
incredible
JUST SUPERB !!!! can we found a record somewhere of this session??
I can just picture the bull fight. I hate the picture; would choose seeing these musicians as bull fighting their way into my heart!
🌱🌼💙🥀

It's spelled Guilherme Franco, unlike what the video shows!
