Smart batteries enable improved operation through their communication with users. At the same time, they help use energy more efficiently through intelligent charging management.
One important function is situational charging. Depending on the outside temperature, time of day or application, the battery charges faster or more slowly. Generally, very low ambient temperatures are not optimal for charging batteries. Smart batteries, on the other hand, detect the cold outside temperature and initially charge more slowly. Once the slow charging process has caused the battery to reach a certain temperature, rapid charging begins. This intelligent charging function extends the service life of the battery.
Smart batteries can also transmit their geolocation. This is particularly important when working with multiple batteries. In horticulture and landscaping, for example, the 'nearby' function allows you to quickly identify which batteries are in the immediate vicinity. So at the end of the day, you won't leave a battery behind at your work site.
Smart batteries also provide information about their charge level and the number of charging cycles to date. This helps with operational planning and replacement purchases. With sophisticated fleet management from STIHL, users can get a quick overview of their entire power tool fleet and the associated batteries.
Data from the battery is transferred via an integrated Bluetooth interface and the STIHL connected system. The data is sent either directly to the smartphone app or to the portal via the STIHL connected box. There, all data can be conveniently viewed and comprehensively analysed.
