Yes, indeed, many things are good here, ie horses respond to rythym, stroking 5 times, stop then 5 times, etc. and being alert for sensitive areas. On the other hand, have you seen horses in the field. They bite hard, physically move each other around and kick each other with both hind feet. There's no gentleness. But still, I think you need to pet and desensitize your horse to things Everwhere if you want to ride them vs having just a lawn ornament. If your saddle bag leathers come loose and hit an area that you haven't desensitized, you could easily become launched. I totally agree with the inappropriateness of slapping. I can't think of any animal that would want to be slapped
@@pjstar2009 In my youth ( I 'm nearly 59 years old) it was like that. Instructors were asking all the learners to slap the poor horses necks. I did not know but I never liked...it seemed to me too short. Not bringing them softness and too short to pet them good. After a very long stop I ride again. Rule changed ! I 'm very happy about it. I always prefer to gently caress their necks and themselves too !!! That ten times method is great, I' m going to try it next time. 😁👍🏻 What I love is when horses show you where they desire caresses or scratches. Foreheads for example. Or necks. I am giving cuddles to all the horses of the barn. About 20 horses, most are mares. They decide when they want me to. I listen to them. Then this is the best school to learn how to pet the best way. And who loves what too. Not all horses love hand touch. Some prefer only smell your nose at first. Or your hand. After it changes. In addition there is jealousy between them. . If one wants scratches on his forehead or a good head cuddling then another one too. 😊👌🏻🐎🐎 I changed my behavior with cuddling. I 'm less touchy. They all trust me.
Great video. I knew not to do the Olympic Slap, and to stroke the horse instead. But I've never heard the 10x thing. It makes perfect sense. Thanks so much!
Hard scratching around the wither imitating a horse grooming is. Very beneficial. When getttinc that first hand on always shoulder and wither areas staying away from the head
Hi! I’m a new subscriber! Love your approach to horses and the techniques you use. Sometime horse tutorials can seem overwhelming for me, but yours are simple and straightforward for someone like me who’s still a beginner 😊 God has blessed you with great talent to share!

If only some people would listen and learn. That whole "Olympic pat" thing is disgusting, ignorant and arrogant. Many animals respond positively to stroking because of their mothers licking them, especially when they are first born - dogs, cats, rabbits, etc.
@@HorsePerfect Well, of course, not birds or reptiles and others whose mothers don't lick them when they are born; I guess it would only be mammals who give live births. They do that to keep them from smelling and attracting predators at a time when both are vulnerable. So don't pet/stroke birds, snakes, frogs, lizards, etc.; it definitely does not soothe them, only frightens them.
@@HorsePerfect What birds do like is to be groomed by other birds. Try pretending that you are hunting for mites and such between their feathers, not exactly 'scratching', but getting in there and gently grooming. It's a bonding habit for them and you would like for your parrot to bond with you, I would assume. I don't think 'petting' or even holding parrots frightens them if they are comfortable with people; they may even like to be held close. Dogs just tolerate us hugging them close; it's not at all comforting to them.
I take horse lessons and I adore the horse so i always wanna learn new things about horses and does it hurt the horse if I like gently pat his neck when am riding? Because am unsure if that hurts him or not
Those are very good tips, especially for those who are petting horses first time. The neck is very good suggestion (and especially that place behind ears, one of the most favourite places for massage - approved by many horses I took care :) ) Also one more common mistake is to stroke way too softly and it can tickle. Another place, which is not that much recommended - especially with stallions - is stroking them on their (i can´t recall the name, but its under his neck and ends with front legs) - it can be, well, too much stimulating for them. Personally I met very mellow stallions, so I never had problems, but you know, there might be ones who can get overstimulated quite easily. Good work with this short instruction video!👍
If the horse is gentle you can pet them gently around the nose also. Just be careful if you're unsure as it's easy for them to bite you if you pet them close to their mouth.
I can't stand when people pat their horses hard. I've seen people who pat horses so hard, the arena echoes with the slap sound. Stroking and scratching gently is best!
Did not know about the 10 times stroking…thank you
So welcome! 😊🙌🏼

@@HorsePerfectwhy didn't the horse attack you? Bite you??
Such a basic thing but very important, there must be many inexperienced people like me who have never really thought much of it. thank you
So glad it’s been a helpful topic! 😊🙌🏼

Absolutely agree! Wow I didn’t know it worked the same way in other animals that’s so interesting!

@@virginiamoss7045 makes sense! I’ll stop petting my parrot 10 times lol

I literally cringe seeing people do the whole pat thing….. like it’s because it’s popular and so professional looking …. Wrong
Thank you! That was very informative and made since! 👏🏼
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it helpful 🙌🏼😊
I don't even have a horse but i like to watch🤣

EXCELLENT Subject & Information Thankyou ! xoxoxo
You are so welcome!😊
what if the lesson horse im riding likes to get patted?? do i stroke the horse or pat or just do both
No horse likes getting patted it’s like slapping and it’s too much negative energy. Better to pet them if you can!
@alright, i have another question aswell. i see videos of horses wanting to get patted on their butts, it looks like they enjoy
Hi can u pet them on the nose? Or is that also fonna take a negative response w the horse? Btw this wqs helpful idek that u should pet the horse 10 ×
Yes if the horse is very calm and relaxed you can pet them on the face/nose.
I always wanted a horse to ride on because I’m older enough I’m seven❤❤
Tell your parents I said they should get you a horse! You are definitely old enough because I started riding when I was 2 😊
Very valuable information.
Glad to hear that! Was a video I thought wouldn't do well haha
I really thought this was gonna be a satire vid 😭😭
Lol maybe I should do some of those then
How to know if the horse likes it and wants you to continue?
If the horse stands still relaxed and their head is low they like it. If they are nervous and moving away from you they are not really enjoying it.
Wow...thank you!
You are so welcome! 😊
Excellent!❤
Thank you so much! 😊
Btw where u from?
I’m from England 🏴
What about around the nose??
If the horse is gentle you can pet them gently around the nose also. Just be careful if you're unsure as it's easy for them to bite you if you pet them close to their mouth.
Is the horse being attacked by flies?
Unfortunately there are many flies in this area! Even I get bitten all the time by the deer flies and sadly no fly spray or bug spray stops them!
I can't stand when people pat their horses hard. I've seen people who pat horses so hard, the arena echoes with the slap sound. Stroking and scratching gently is best!
Me either it’s pretty sad. Totally agree! 🙌🏼
You’d think it would be common sense, but… well… I’ve personally seen some people do some pretty nonsensical things to and with animals, so…. 🤨
Right!? Its sad but I knew I had to make this video 😅
😂does not like to be touched on the belly
I guess its ticklish 😂
Didnt know that harry potter trained horses, the more you know...
You forgot to mention to never pet on the chest of a male horse, because it’s an erogenous zone for them.
Ok haha that’s interesting I’m not sure how accurate that is but it could be true I guess
You left out touching the nose.
Not a good idea to scratch or rub the nose. Some horses are fine with that but others aren't.
True some horses aren't ok with that.
Watching that horse, she didn’t look happy AT ALL! 🤷♀️
He has a very expressive face 😅 But generally he's happy just maybe would rather eat grass as all horses want to do 24/7
