- This is another great piece by David Holsinger. Goes from slow, to an "Agitated" and intense feeling to a bright and broad section and then closes with a very slow and delicate horn part along with the woodwinds. Hope you enjoy!
This song goes so hard I loved playing this in my band as a trumpet
I played this as first chair flute in high school while I was in the GMAC Honor Band under the actual direction of David Holsinger,,,I remember him placing his coat on the back off my chair as he prepared to direct our performance that year. I am now 33 and still love to hear his music. This piece is awesome and I am proud to say that my siblings played pieces by him as well. I miss playing all day every day.
Wow. Your comment needs to be pinned to the top.
I played Trombone 1 during my senior year of high school. Our school band was being rebuilt and started having great musicians, and the piece reflected that! This was the first piece we played really well in and scored our only 1 during our last Concert Performance Assessment! Such a great song!
I have been searching for this for literally decades. I played it in the Walker High School band in Jasper, AL in 1995. We competed in Colorado Springs playing this and won.
I knew that it was an arrangement of Were You There but I couldn't find it with idle googling. Sitting here eating lunch when I finally remembered the name. I'm crying. A beautiful arrangement and so many memories.
The French Horn parts are absolutely beautiful! My band just began this piece today, and I cant wait to see it completed.
I played French Horn on this about 25 years ago in high school and my pulse still kicks up at the very end where the Horns come in alone.
The trombones glisses are my favorite 😁
The French horns have the best part. ON GOD! Especially the climax! Those melodic lines are so beautiful
This song is by far the most difficult thing I've ever played, and I think that my band teacher is a bit insane having freshman do this one, but holy cow is this a cool song. While the flute has little melody, the dynamics and articulation are so well put together.
Charles Iannucci sameeee - I’m doing this piece as a freshman and I’m 1st french horn - this song is death for my lips but it’s so pretty 💜
The song is pretty ok for trumpet but I can’t imagine what the French horn players are going through
I feel bad for you guys but I'm playing it AND IM IN 7TH GRADE SO WAH
@@jamesbrach5184I’m also in 7th grade and I’m playing it. And I’m Alto which has the hardest part
Sometimes it causes me to TREMBLE, TREMBLE, TREMBLE my Lord!
This piece speaks to my heart for the love I have for Jesus Christ our savior and being able to play my heart out on the flute
That's so nice :)
I get to play clarinet for this piece! Gives me chills!
I still shed tears many years later....
I played this in 2014 with the PMS Symphonic Band. I was on trombone 1, and when we played this at our concert. I was crying after I played the solo at 3:50. Best thing I've ever played.
I know! My highschool band is playing this for our concert on Friday and I cried like a baby playing that solo.
Do you mean Pinckneyville Middle School???? I go to school there😂😂
powerful. such beautiful and powerful composure. the story hits home cause I'm catholic. the music does a great job at pulling at the emotions and getting your attention
Dr. Holsinger gets very intense when he conducts this, he was at my band camp back in 1997.
Love the tension this piece creates then the resolution is so pretty at the end. Holsinger is so good!
I got to play the timpani part for this and the little solo I have was my favorite, but we got quarantined before we could preform it, it was my favorite song we were playing, I’m a senior so I won’t get to play it again and I’m really sad, I loved this song
So very sorry to hear that. Do you have a community band nearby? Or maybe in college?
I get to play the horn solo for this! :)
101curlytop101 I did too and it was always an amazing feeling Everytime
Lori I just got it and I’m trying to get the super high part on the solo 🤧

We for gold for this lol
I got the timpani part in this one. The only thing that's a pain in the butt is changing the pitches of the drum fast. Dx I love the solo I got in it though xD

I play percussion snare drum for this part lol
2:42 - 3:21

That 2nd clarinet part is quite hectic.

As a 2nd clarinet several years after this comment was posted, i agree lol
This song talks about the crucifixion of Christ
Yes It Does
Were you there when they crucified my Lord
I play contra bass on this song c:::
How can I find the lyrics?
Michael Amren The name of the song is "Were You There When They Crucified My Lord."
There are no real lyrics to this arrangement.
This arrangement is based on the song that the other guy mentioned.
Love this song so much! Bassoon player. Instagram-crispattonandyou
