I played this song my senior year in high school, and have been in love ever since. I play alto sax and played first chair. PERIOD.... the solo was mine and i killed it... had 4 full ride band scholarships just from them listening to me play this..... the horns and saxophone parts are the best!!!......
I played this song in my college concert band and I played alto 1. When we sight read that song and it came to that part for me I pretty much crapped myself. After long hours and blood sweat and tears I performed that solo successfully. It was worth it. Awesome song!!!
I will never, and I repeat NEVER, forget playing this my junior year of Symphony. Our percussion coordinator put is on multiple instruments because there wasn't enough of us to cover all the parts. I had to play bass and tamtam. My director let me play everything extra loud so I remember pounding the crap out of that Wuhan at the very end of the song.
I happen to play the Alto and my school is playing this at our Spring concert. It is such an up lifting song for me. My favorite part would have to be measure 70 after the Sax solo.
I played the sax solo - NY State Summer School of Orchestral Studies (SOS) 2008!! :) And 2 years earlier I played it with my high school, but on bassoon - what a fabulous piece!!!
this piece is a beast I LOVED IT! i played it my freshman year in my high school wind ensemble. they took it to competition and blew the competitors away with it. i can remember being fully stunned when we finished playing the first time.
this a sweet song- he came to the senior allstate band two years ago and conducted, and the band played ride and rush, but ride is by far my fave. hazo is so talented!
omg. the sax solo always gets me. it's beautiful when played well. i will never forget this song. i always listen to it because it just makes me so happy
1:07 = YES! And if you want to know if it's fun as hell to march, I'll let you know next month once we get it on the field! We did this piece in our highest level band a couple years ago... maybe we're crazy, but we're looking forward to this.
My Highschool band might be playing this this year! We messed around with it last year, but decided on Arabesque and Olympiada. It's so much fun to play!
I loved playing this piece!!!! I played mallets on this song. Mr. Hazo even visited us at our school (Benjamin E. Mays High) and conducted our Wind Symphony at our Conductor Symposium!!!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!
Played this my sophomore year and we killed it... I was new in our school's top band and I play alto... Our first chair killed it and to this day I'm in awe of him
The seniors at our school picked this song for the senior piece and man is it awsome! I play euphonium and it's totally a crazy new expierence and I totally have fun laughing at the tubas ripping the 16th notes.
I remember this piece of music fondly. It was difficult, but very very rewarding when we finally got it up to tempo. :sigh: Those were the good old days.
well all you guys out there i am in the New York philharmonic...we sightread this piece and got a perfect score on it...i am a trombone player and i would have to say that you guys have it pretty easy...besides the difference in key changes and frequent change in time signiatures...i encourage every band director in the US to try out this piece...it is a very nice piece
I played 1st trumpet for this song my freshman, it's very, very challenging, but you feel so good when you get it done and pull it off. It's an incredible piece of music, and all mature wind ensembles should play it at least once.
I remember during my senior year, I had to play the xylophone part. I'm not go lie, and say that it was simple, cause it wasn't. It took me a while to get it down, but when I had it solid, I really started to enjoy playing the song.
This was great. I have to perform this for a band, and this piece is perfect. The French horns and horns give a thoughtful tone to the music halfway through, and I liked it!😄👦 ✋ stars
My band played this last year. And this year we're playing the sister piece, Rush... They're both so awesome!!! They end on the exact same note too... ((At the same time, if you play them at the same time.))
Played this my junior year in high school. Band was barely 60 people, most of whom were barely out of 9th grade and maybe 5 seniors. It was a mock judging before competition and we got straight 1's right across the board.... feelsgoodman.jpg
Well he was/is a percussionist. In our clinic with him he actually went back and played the timpani part for Olympiada to show them how to play it correctly. It was amazing, to say the least.
Thumbs up to Rosa Parks School of Fine and Performing Arts!! We played this for a Competition at Hershey park in 2004. AMAZING PIECE!!! ::signing off:: your fellow trumpeteer
my band almost played this song. i'm in 8th grade and this is only our second year playing. for some people, it's their first year. so they cut it, unfortunately. its such a cool piece!!!
I absolutely love this piece! we played it for an all region clinic and it was by far my favorite piece that we played. The only bad part was that another tuba player missed an accidental and it sounded horrible... and was most definately caught on recording XD
My band is performing this piece and my band director does her conducting with alot of expression and really fast so she almost has heart attacts at the end. Its an EPIC SONG!

I played this song my senior year in high school, and have been in love ever since. I play alto sax and played first chair. i would guess that this is my 25th or so time listening to this, i essentially just put this on repeat, its a fantastic piece
I played this song in my college concert band and I played alto 1. When we sight read that song and it came to that part for me I pretty much crapped myself. After long hours and blood sweat and tears I performed that solo successfully. It was worth it. Awesome song!!!
13 people are in bands who couldn't play this...
I hope you mean junior of high school
I happen to play the Alto and my school is playing this at our Spring concert. It is such an up lifting song for me. My favorite part would have to be measure 70 after the Sax solo.

I played the sax solo - NY State Summer School of Orchestral Studies (SOS) 2008!! :) And 2 years earlier I played it with my high school, but on bassoon - what a fabulous piece!!!

I swear, after listening to the intro for the first time, my life changed...
Our sax soloist for this piece is absolutely gorgeous. Favorite part, along with the woodwind licks following it, hands down.
I was second alto in our wind ensemble when we performed this for our fall semester tour. Nice rippin' sax lines!
