@@jimlernt776This is what puzzles me the most. Trouba, Lindgren, Goodrow are always on the ice and they can’t move the puck for shit. Sure they block shots but they always get pinned in the zone and makes for a not such a fun time.

You say without the power play the rangers lost this game but it was 2 5 on 5 goals for each team here. The last goal from the canes happened 6 on 5 and I'm willing to bet this game would be late into ot before a winner was decided.
Also doesn’t change the fact that the rangers went 2 for 2 on the pp and the canes went 0 for 5

The canes have the inability of staying out of the box. I guarantee you in game two they will take at least four penalties, it’s how the hurricanes play against the Rangers every time. And of course Carolinas power-play goes ghost pro against the Rangers every time

I am unable to watch the games so I listen on MSG radio and now I have an intelligent reaction to a Rangers game to look forward to and not these silly television personalities (not meaning MSG) from these nationally televised broadcasts. Your channel is classic and in my lingo that means you’re doing things right.

Everyone’s talking about special teams - Rangers keeping Carolina to the outside for most of the game was the headline for me. Carolina didn’t feel dangerous until the 3rd.

Canes were held to 18 shots until they pulled their goalie, so just goes to show how good the Rangers were at limiting their chances. Rangers were very good at controlling the play in the first half of the game, and then of course they started to play more defensive to protect their 2 goal lead. Very well structured game by the Rangers, I have high hopes for them

@@staalman1226 the posts would have made it interesting but if u look at it tho, I was there the rangers stood up at their blue line when it was 4-2 Carolina only had 14 shots that’s not like them, u can’t even say they were “off” cause the rangers have had a longer break, the rangers were first to every puck, forced Carolina into over 15 turnovers, capitalized on their PP canes PP had 5 shots I think on 4 opportunities and the Rangers hit a few posts too, it was semi even but if you were there in person, you could see, Rangers were so much faster and stronger

One thing about this year is that the Rangers as well as the Bruins have not forgotten the embarrassment of last year , especially the meek rangers of last year , you can see that in that the rangers came out physical, but more than that panarin is very aware of the knock on him of disappearing in the playoffs , he was showing his frustration more than others at every missed opportunity or save and you could tell he was not just thrilled to score but relieved .. Trochek has a bigger chip since he was on the losing end with the hurricanes when the rangers beat them a couple of years ago only to lose badly last year .. and Rempe starting was a message too , something I wondered about
These two teams losing a combined 1 first round game was no surprise. Neither team they were playing belonged at all. Now, anything less than 6 games for this series will be a surprise.
Ifn the Canes keep trying to play like the 70s Flyers and the refs actually call some penalties it could be a shorter series than I thought.

Two teams that play an offensive game instead of the slow, grindy defense-first snoozers all the others seem to be doing. This is going to be an absolutely fantastic series. This game was probably the best of the playoffs so far.
I enjoy both types instead of complaining about it...

Rangers match up well against the Canes. Rangers have some skilled players who can beat man to man coverage. Canes have high volume shots but usually low quality which bodes well for Igor. Even their first goal was a complete fluke partially blocked shot. This is a great match up but I like the Rangers set up better.

Do not think it was a coincidence that the Rangers didnt get a single PP chance after the first period, the refs clearly picked their favorites in this one and they didn't even win. 5 PP chances with nothing to show for it. Rangers in 5 easy money.
Refs played favorites for sure. The Rempe penalty was hot garbage. He was hit into the goalie by Staal. The Refs have a mandate from the league to keep games close and playoffs series long. It's approaching WWE level.

Canes didn’t look too good, Rangers played very solid. Refs played a big part in that game. LGRRRRRRRRRR
Case in point why stats are overrated! This game is exactly what happened during the regular season we get a lead via our PP and can afford to sit back and relax in a 1-3-1 and clog up the neutral zone preventing breakouts and odd man rushes. Up until 5 mins left in the game we held Carolina to 15 shots and they had a flurry at the end pressing to tie. While the canes had A LOT of zone time they really didn’t cause us too much trouble till the end. NUMBERS DONT MEAN MUCH DURING THE PLAYOFFS! Winnipeg was the best 5 on 5 not XG but in actual goals vs GA during the regular season and they went out in 5 to the Avs!

This was a really entertaining game. Playoff hockey is best hockey.
This was a good game by the Rangers, but honestly the pressure from the Canes in the end (and through other parts of it) was insane. And i think a sign of what is to come. Rangers need more production 5 on 5. Coming from a Rangers fan.
Rangers did fine 5 on 5, canes really got a couple lucky bounces on the first and third goal. The goals were in favor of the canes, but the rangers did generate more overall 5 on 5.

They pressured the last few minutes because the Rangers didn’t need a goal. The game doesn’t look like that if it’s tied or the Rangers are down. Take that pressure at the end by the canes with a grain of salt

Matt Rempe gets pushed into the goalie and yet he gets called for the penalty??? How is nobody talking about this??? The league is out for his head.
They missed a call in the corner and Rempe was the make up for what they missed moments earlier.

Game wasn't as close as the scoreboard implies, Rangers sat on an early lead.
True, the Rangers were clearly playing more defensive in the 2nd half to protect the lead which is why the Canes had more offensive zone time. They still gave them basically nothing and limited them to only 18 shots until they pulled their goalie. The insurance goal by Panarin really made the rest of the game stress free, until the final minute of course

As canes fan, this seems way too familiar, our Pk and PP have to show up (they were top 2 in both in regular season) and not vanish like every year in playoffs.. now that Canes can score 5on5 we actually have change of wining anything... please

I can’t give give you grief for missing some details that don’t lead to a goal but I think the Zibanejad in alone deep against Andersen and did a drop pass instead of a shot that led to a dead play late in 1st.
Crowd would have called a penalty when Zibanejad? Got tripped I believe in the first. When comparing that call to the trouba? Fox? Cross check call it was lame. Deangelo hit seemed like initial contact with head to me but evidently not to PK Subban at all since he thought it was not a penalty… settled at 2min. Penalty on Rempe was unfair as contact was initiate by Staal.
Rangers tried to protect the lead instead of push for more starting in the 2nd period and obviously the Hurricanes came with the push… I hate when the Rangers do that :(

@@coastingalong 0-4. The Canes are at 26% typically. That is only a little better than 1-4, which was 2nd in the league. We know the Rangers did well on the power play today. I feel good about most of the game, when the Canes dominated puck possession, and they did end up with more shots.

I have to disagree. I think Rangers were the better team when it was tied. They attacked and provided offense and created chances. After the latter part of the 2nd up 3-1 they played shut down hockey. They didn't want to give Carolina life with a late 2nd period goal. In the 3rd they thought they could win 3-1 and maybe pick up an empty netter. Carolina scored and we answered right back. Rangers didn't need to light up the stats to convince anyone. They just needed to win and mission accomplished, so far ..

Canes made many mistakes and took stupid penalty's. They need to be smarter to win this series. Even with their mental errors they only lost by a goal which says a lot about them

That it ended close 4-3 despite Canes doing horrible mistakes (1st Teravainen idiotic defense, 2nd stupid penalty, 3rd stupid penalty, 4th leaky Andersen) bodes well for Canes IMO.

Name of the game for the canes is quantity over quality. Take a million shots and hold em in their zone while you do it. They do really well in the regular season and early rounds because that works against average goaltending and average defense. But its tougher to pull off against the good teams
They did the holding in the zone, but didnt even really reach their usual quantity so it just didnt work tonight for them

Wasn't bothered by the TDA hit. Original call was tripping on Necas. Weird how the refs changed that. Was more miffed at the high stick on Trocheck not called and the cross check to Fox's face by Kuznetsov which drew blood , only 2 minutes. Hey, that's playoff hockey.
Why is a second round series starting before the first round is done?
Because the East finished all their games already, so they can start their 2nd round earlier. Kind of why the East started the first round 2 days earlier than the West did.

Refs won’t call anything on the Canes and the Canes know it. They are one dirty team and know they can’t call everything out there. In November they deliberately hurt 3 of the Rangers players. They (Rangers) haven’t forgotten.

Pressure is on heavy for Rod and the canes. IF you dont make SCF your gone. How many times does he get to fail and still be coach. 06 was the last time they sniffed the SCF, Devils made the final more recent than them. If rod cant get them over the hump time to move on to someone else, if not next year, Rod is 100% gone has to be.

People keep talking about 5v5 but truthfully the rangers have led or been tied in the majority of there wins , we’re they don’t need to push at 5v5 so tired of hearing rangers won’t win without a PP ! ItS A HUGE PART OF HOCKEY LETS NOT MENTION THE CANES GOT 4,5 penalties that that didn’t convert and that beast PK CAME THROUGH ! That first goal was a lucky bounce or this game 3-0 after 1 with the first being at 5v5 not to mention the rangers held a team that throws everything but the sink at the net 40-50 shots a game and one of the highest SHOT VOLUME TEAMS held them to 20 !!!!! Yea the delay of game was fine that Rempe play was a bad call AND THAT WAS A MAJOR !

I thought the Canes were trying to play like the Bruins with all the cheapshots it took them out of their game a bit and I thought the Rangers should have had at least 3-4 more PPs. I guess the Canes feel they can't beat the Rangers the way they normally play it's not a good matchup for them the Rangers are more skilled and it shows. As good as the Canes can be at times I could see this series being shorter than I thought it would be they better win game two because the Rangers are winning at least one game on the road in games 3-4. I thought the refs were awful in this game and we're lucky nobody got injured.

@@joshua3630 Actually neither team usually plays that way that's why Rempe's in the game because in years past teams took liberties and guys got hurt. The series two years ago was very clean without a lot of nonsense and very few cheapshots. Then the Canes came out in the first period and looked like the Flyers that really surprised me the Canes are actually one of my favorite teams to watch and they usually don't play like that. Of course the Rangers started playing the same way and it's fortunate no one got hurt. I do stand by my mostly drunken post I don't want the two teams to play like they did in the first game and they don't need to. Weather you want to admit it or not the Canes started with the cheap stuff and they should have had at least a few more penalties and if you don't agree you're in denial. It evened out in the third when the Rangers started taking cheapshots and playing stupid and that play just leads to injuries. So here's to a cleaner series so whoever wins will have enough left to win it all because I will be pulling for whoever wins it to win it all.
