    I recently bought two apple trees both about 5 ft.i put them both in 80 litre pots with 30% multi purpose compost and 70% John Inness no 3.i added some vitax Q4 plus to the soil and they seem to be doing well after 3 months.when in your opinion would be the right time of year to put them in the ground?gala m26 and Braeburn mm106. Cheers!sorry to keep asking questions when not related to topic but just want to do things correctly and I’m a total novice!

      Hi Stephen, you can plant them now. Just don't disturb the root system, despite what others may say on the Internet! And make sure they are planted far enough apart to accommodate their full size. If I had a pound for every time I saw fruit trees planted within a few feet of each other! You've seen how big the apple tree is in my garden. You are looking at 6 - 10 metres apart minimum. Simon

      @@walkingtalkinggardeners the mm106 grows to 4/5 metres and the m26 grows to 8-10 feet apparently.will put them about 20 feet apart cheers Simon!

      Hi Mark, you would need to keep an eye on the overnight temperatures. You can bring them in now, especially if you're not getting to enjoy them outside now the weather has turned cooler. I will be leaving mine until overnight temperatures start hitting 6 Celsius as they look great outside the kitchen window. Simon

      @@walkingtalkinggardeners Thank you, Simon. It started the spring as a gifted cutting. It's now spectacular with giant very dark rosettes. It's done so well. I'm just nervous about getting it thought the winter. I do have a conservatory.
