Hello, how are your gladiolus doing? I planted mine 2 weeks after I watched you plant yours. I did succession planting around my well head. At age 59, I must admit it was the first time I "Ever" planted anything in the ground. I have struggled soooo much with houseplants. I never thought I could keep an outside plant alive, much less grow one from scratch. I live near the coast of central Florida and was not sure what would grow well other than tropicals. What I call my Dollar Tree Glady army is flowering now, and I'm over the moon delighted with them. I've had neighbors comment how much they enjoy the changes in the yard. I wanted to THANK YOU for giving me the courage to try. You are changing lives in ways you can't imagine. Thank you and your beautiful family for sharing a bit of your lives with us. PS I bought yellow gladiolus. Got a rouge purple/pink in the bunch. It makes me chuckle every time I see it. I think "Jamie would love that" ha ha.
I just get teary eyed watching you all love those cats back to life! So sweet.
You and Jason are truly amazing people, so good to see how well the barn cats are adjusting. I love how relaxing you make your hard work look with the soft music in the background. I look forward to your videos every single day. You are such an inspiration to so many…
Janey you are coming up to a year on your new home and property. I think it would be neat to see side by side comparison of what you have done. Love your smile as well as your can do attitude. Thank you.
Yes! That is what I’m planning for my august garden tour. Before and after (well, in progress!) 😆
Yay. It hard to remember your barren land.
Everything looks beautiful! You've done a wonderful job in such a short amount of time.
Keep up the good work. I forward to future videos.
Always something to do! We always see what needs to be done 5hat sometimes forget to spend time enjoying the fruits of our labor. Smell those roses!. Pick a bouquet and taste those sweet tomatoes !😊
Thank you, Janey, for showing all the deadheading and chores that need to be done! Love your garden💐🌺🌸🌳♥️
Good morning Janey! Love your garden! Just an idea, for the lemon coral sedum, instead of going all the way with one row along the edge, have you thought instead of doing small groups of it all along? It would look less formal I think and blend well with everything! Also it would allowed you to add other things along the edge thant can really soften the look! :).
Love the red bibs very good color for you
Good morning!! Janey that color is gorgeous on you! Love maintenance videos, it motivates me to get mine done. Thanks for the fertilizer tip, go all the way around. I need to start doing that 😅 Have a great day 🥰
Looks like you got a lot accomplished , your videos go so quick very enjoyable Janey
Janey thanks for showing us a maintenance day. They are so important for us gardeners. So sorry for the loss of your plants. However I got a glimpse of you zig zag planter. OMG its absolutely beautiful. I just can't imagine your garden without it. Im so jealous of your purple fountain grass. In my zone the are only an annual.😢
That area of your Best for the West Garden is such a fun, cheerful spot! Love all the varying heights and textures. Love ALL the colors!!
Consider feeding your fabulous ginger kitties from flat plates. Cat can suffer from “ whisker fatigue” it’s a real thing. It can trigger cats to stop or be reluctant to eat.
When they have to stick their heads in a bowl their whiskers are ultra sensitive. Think of it like an over use injury.
Flat plates that can be washed in the dishwasher. Love the barn kitties
Isn’t it so satisfying when we clean up our gardens? I just gifted myself a mini handheld hedge trimmer (blade is about 8-10 inches long) works great when pruning back perennials and shrubs. Makes work quick and easy. Just love how your garden is coming along Janey!💚
My neighbour has one. I bet it's great for avoiding repetitive strain injuries.
Ooh, great idea- I want one! Will try to hold off and ask for it for my birthday 😂
Can you pls share a link here pls??
Thank you for keeping in the roach and your reaction. It's good to know I'm not the only one who reacts that way.
Glad I watched, some good tips! And hope we can get the honey apricot rose in my country 💚💚 happy gardening!
Hi Janey, I love your channel and learning about maintenance is something I needed. I am confused though, because I thought the fertilizer was to be spread around the drip line not at the base? I noticed you lift your plants and throw it under.
Love the updates on your barn cats. Our local Humane Society is always promoting the adoption of barn cats, and I didn’t really understand how that worked. After seeing yours, I love the idea. Sounds like a win for all parties. 🎉
Great information on the stump and sucker removal. Just in time since this is my chore this week. How long will it take the stump to die? I'm guessing with different stumps you may have to reapply? Your garden is looking beautiful!
Good Morning Janey, you could get so many more blooms and a nicer rose bush by trimming back to the 5th leaf instead of just lopping off the branches when dead heading. I actually love maintenance days, you get to look at each plant and give them some TLC. So glad Brian and Crookshanks are settling in and allowing you to pet them and feed them. Those baby birds in your wreath are so sweet. I hope the stump killer doesn't kill your espalier. I used boiling hot kettle water and epsom salt to kill off a trumpet vine that was invading my property and it worked after a few applications. I just poured hot water first, added handful of epsom salt and then a little more kettle water a few days in a row. Have a great day!
I go down to the first 5-leaf bunch and prune right above. I will try your method tomorrow when I prune my daughter's Roses.
Your year anniversary in this house is approaching... how about some before and after pictures! Your yard looks so pretty! ❤M
Always something to do :)
Will good morning janey and monty. Maintenance day ugh😢 I do not like maintenance but it is one of those things we have to do if we want a beautiful garden. The end result is worth it.
When planting up my garden in the Spring. I can get really carried away with planting when all is done. Then I realize one day I will have to do maintenance Oh dear
Have a blesst sweet day😊
hi Janey, I really like the colour of your outfit on you, it suits you very well!
GEESH....the dichondra is super happy😮❤
Hi Janey!
Newbie amateur gardener here.
I’ve heard of “volunteers” before but never heard of “suckers”.
Can you explain the difference if there is one?
Love you, love your channel. Thanks!!
I am completely amazed at your garden. It looks so mature and it’s crazy to think that most of it (except for some trees) are less than a year old. I’m obsessed with that kniphofia. It won’t survive in my zone but if I were to plant it as an annual do you think it would still preform well for the summer?
Are those overalls the ones they just had on that great sale? I knew I'd look awful in that color but it's amazing on you. :-) I hope you got them at that great price I saw.
I have those overalls in this same color! I told my boys I went with the bright pink so that they can easily find me in the garden. 😂
You look so beautiful in your video cover photo. I love that color on you!
Hi Janey! I think you should invest in a box of disposable nitrile gloves for chemical applications. In the event of an accident, cloth gloves don't provide an appropriate barrier and the chemical can soak into your gloves and hold on! Safety glasses might be appropriate too. Then again I'm not familiar with these particular chemicals.. just want to make sure you're safe and nothing happens!
Does Monty eat the fertilizer? I try to fertilize and both of my dogs end up eating it 🤦♀️
I wonder if the stump and vine killer would work on torpedo grass? Might have to give it a shot.
I’m surprised u used plant tone on catmint. I didn’t think it needed fertilizer? Can u address this sometime soon? Thanks, Janey
Hi Janey, I saw a lady paint her propane tank to look like a watermelon. Swanky!
Have you introduced Monty to the cats? Hate from them to get scared of the dog when you let them go & run away. Just a thought 😊
I love that you rescued those sweet kitties....did they find that poor third kitty that was abused the worst?
75K subscribers!!! Wee!!!!
Any word on the third cat yet? I hope he's OK and you are able to get him soon too. ❤🐈🐱
Question: is there a reason you didn’t use the special “rose mix” fertilizer this time?
I love your red overalls… 🤩❤️🩹🌿
Question maybe for a coffee chat? If you cut back a fruit tree bc it’s dying and it grows back as a sucker? Is it possible to grow a healthy tree back from that or will it never grow a strong trunk. I’ve wondered bc the roots are alive . Maybe it doesn’t make sense bc if the tree didn’t do well there it wouldn’t in the future. Kerri
It will depend on if the fruit tree has grafted roots or not. Many modern fruit trees are grafted into rootstock, depending on how large the nursery wants the tree to grow (usually dwarf or semi dwarf). These roots will not be the same as the fruiting tree so trying to grow from them may only yield a tree with odd fruit or no fruit at all.
If the tree has not been grafted then it is possible to grow them back from the roots. You’ll want to select a single sucker, cut back everything else, and train as you would a new baby tree.
💛💛💟💟👍👍👍👍
Hi Janey, I live just South of you in Modesto so I'm in the middle if this crazy heat wave just as you are...my question is, I've always heard that it's really not the best idea to fertilize when it's as hot as we are (today is supposed to be 103!). What are your thoughts about this? Thank you for your channel!!!
Hi Janey, I have a question. I do container gardening and I want to put my pots/containers on drip. My concern is, my hose bib is on the corner of my house and there’s no way to avoid the drip tubing from cutting across where I walk in at least 3 places. I have a high risk of falling so I’m very reluctant to install a trip hazard. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Tracy! I would definitely not cross your pathways. I remember speaking to you in Seattle! Have you heard of the Olla watering system? I would do something like that for now then next year use aqua pot inserts or you can hire someone to drill under your pathways and put PvC pipe under so you can bring the drip line over to the pots. 💗
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat thank you those are great suggestions. I did buy a hoselink & I’m waiting for my son to install it. I thought having the retractable hose would help a lot. Thank you for the suggestions. 😁❤️
Good morning Janey, I have been trying to get rid of a tiger Lilly/ road Lilly ( grows wild). Will this kill plants that come from bulbs? Thank you for always teaching and showing us some new items t I try.
Janey, question. When you plant certain plants…can you plant them with a cage around them in the ground? I love your garden. I’m jealous ❤😂 Also how often do you use Plantone?
Janey,
Thank you for mentioning Sucker Punch again. I have several areas in my yard that I’m constantly cutting back suckers. I swear they come back in days after I cut 🤬. Hopefully the sucker punch will help delay! The barn cats look like they are loving their new home! I might have missed an update but have you heard anything about the third kitty? I get a kick out of Monty as he acts like a supervisor following behind and checking your work😂
Made me laugh 🪳 they love roses, cardboard and dark, wet spaces so we can’t avoid them in the garden because it provides all of that. They won’t hurt you LoL but I know they’re gross.
I am having a hard time trying to find the stump and vine killer with the brush unfortunately Amazon does not deliver this product to my location I’m in Southern California anyone knows where to find this?
Oh everything looks so so beautiful! My garden is suffering so much with this heat, so it’s helping me get my fix in to see yours! Also, I’d never heard of that product, but SuckerPunch is such a cute name for it. Haha!
Thank you for this information about sucker punch !! I've been struggling with this and didn't know this application was an option.
Hello Janey, Really enjoyed your maintenance video and looking forward to more like it. I can plant and grow flowers, but I can't seem to prune, cut back, deadheading and winterize correctly. I have killed so many plants doing these necessary chores. I hope you will go into more detail with maintaince as the summer goes on? Loving your channel and you. ❤ ps Love and want those ❤ overalls..
One word of caution Janey. Try to avoid fertilising / feeding your plants in the heat of the day as it can burn the foliage. If using liquid fertiliser, make sure it's properly diluted and apply it early in the morning on well-watered soil. Avoid feeding in really hot weather. If using slow-release pelletised fertiliser, the same applies - water the soil before and after applying and then cover it with mulch.
The Epsoma products she uses (as do I ) will not burn plants. They are organic slow release fertilizers.
@@josweatt898 Thanks for clarifying the Epsoma. It’s not a product I’m familiar with, and I do appreciate your feedback.🙏
Girly how are we suppose to get into the garden this week? 105 degrees plus all week….ahh I can feel the melancholy kicking in lol. I hope you are getting out there super uber early.
Nice Job Jason!
Good morning 😊. If you don't get rid of them. They will multiple quickly. Your gardens are beautiful.
wow amazing❤❤❤
I live in so cal. I have gofers and a bunny (the hawks might have got him). I was so upset that all my superbenas have been deadheaded by the bunny (i had a TON) the gofers seem to have eaten all my osteospermums. I have decided that the plants they don’t like will thrive.
If it’s any consolation, we had a plum removed and even though they ground the stump we still had suckers pop up here and there for a while. The root system was extensive!
Gophers are a constant threat. I plant everything in gophers cages. You can make them or buy them at your local nursery. It has saved my garden. Also there are services that will come out and do gopher control. I know how frustrating it is With gophers. 🌻🧡
Does Monty try to eat the espoma fertilizer? My dog thinks it’s edible….the smell attracts her!! 🤮🤮
Janey gopher hawk is the way to go, it's a but tricky to us but it is worth it once you learn how to work them. The gophers will eventually come for your roses next. 😢
Wondering why you did not use your special rose fertilizer recipe? Rose tone and all Espoma products are wonderful but I believe it was your videos in the past that combined three items for the recipe.
Does Monty try to eat the espoma fertilizer? My dog thinks it’s edible….the smell attracts her!! 🤮🤮
Hope the cats serve you well. A challenge but seems to be going well. We always had them in our orchards growing up and they did a good job.
You should make merch That says that's okay, like Robbie Has it's fine lol
Oh my - you get outdoor roaches there ? I wonder if the chicken coup will attract them. Maybe the barn cats eat those too 😅
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just got thru doing the same! (dead heading and cutting back) It's that time of year!
Hi Janey 🌺. Well done , nice work . Cute cats . Have a wonderful day .🌺🌻🌺
Done a lot today! I love watching your garden.
Nice and tidy! Thanks for the info on the Sucker Punch, etc.
The vine killer could kill your jasmine be careful
👍
🪴
By cutting down the plum tree and not removing the stump, did you in essential just give it a 'rejuvenation hard prune' since it is now re-sprouting? The foliage looks healthy and I'm wondering if you just don't want to keep it and regrow the plum tree.
They were red ornamental plum trees… the regrowth is green and won’t yield any fruit so I’m not sure it would be worth it for her 🤷🏼♀️
Sucker Punch, that’s such a good name for it 😂
What a great thumbnail pic for this video!
I planted 3 original suncredible sunflowers Ana 3 Saturns the first week in June. The originals did awesome the Saturns are dead. This is the second year the Saturns did this. Is there a planting difference?
I’ve heard there are problems with the Saturn. I’ve never grown it but I think a lot of people are complaining like you.
How will you keep them off the road out front?
Most male cats are very affectionate.
Have you started your own compost pile ? 🌺💚🙃
Yep!
💖🌸👍🏻🌸💖
❤️🇺🇸👍
Cruikshanks look like he might have ear mites
I think you’re right
❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🏻

Hi Janey
Is Monty getting used to the New Cats , some barn cats Don't get well with Dogs
Montyyy ❤, the inspector.
Monty living the best dog life.
As a viewer …. I’d like to respectfully request that when you are showing a product a book and tags ,could you please, please ( all content creators) try doing your best Vanna White impression? 😉 Screen shotting or even while simply viewing the product while it’s bouncing all over in the hand that is moving all about as its corresponding face is talking, is such a frustration and very distracting, all the while blurring in and out of focus 😂. It brings on the absurd act of verbally trying to commentate/direct my screen . That said , 😊 I know ,we are all just so darn human trying to do our best at what ever it is we do ☀️ 🪴
