Janey I’m thinking because your property is so large, repetition is really important. Maybe repeat the azaleas in the long border for example. That is a beautiful mix of plants you have. To repeat that full mix all along the border with more azaleas would be fabulous!!

Definitely, I was going to mention this as well. Repetition is one of the basic principles of a beautiful garden especially one as large as yours.

Hi Jannie! LOVE your channel. Let me tell you that bugainvilleas are really not finicky. They thrive in heat, humidity, love FULL sun and are extremely drought tolerant. The more water they get, the more foliage they put out. The less water they get, they drop their leaves and bloom like crazy. I am from Puerto Rico and every house hold has them. My parents used to plant them along the fence as a security measure because of their long thorns. They grow very quickly and do not like pruning that much. They will love your front fence and spill over it their blooms. Hope this helps you grow them.

The trick with growing bougainvilleas here in Florida is to grow it where it can be left alone, needs lots of room, I once planted a peach color boogie over a pagoda and we ended up having to take it down because we couldn't control it from growing over the roof! Ended up having to pull it out with a truck! Broke my heart...I now grow a bougainvillea freely in a container overlooking the pond, no pruning needed

I grew up in West africa, and we had a bougainvillea, and it makes me so nostalgic to see it every time. It was planted as a hedge at the front of our house and was a beautiful green wall with pink flowers. I was trimmed like once a year to keep it tidy. If I live in a warm climate again, one day I dream of growing it in my garden one day.

Janey, Vego just came out with a 130’ retractable hose. Since they already sponsor you, maybe that will work to reach behind your greenhouse? I’d love if you could get one and compare with hose link. Is that possible?❤ it would be so helpful to us consumers.

I'm in North Carolina and there's no way I can come to your event in May. But I looked to see the cost of the tickets, and it's awesome that you're making it a reasonable price for such an incredible event.

You should really consider going through Harris Seed Co through the Raker Roberta program. That's for plugs. Anyway, financially it is well worth it. I got trays of 36 plugs, but one tray had 67 tiny starts in them. They were actually decent sized. The azaleas and rhodies need acidic soil. In Washington they've been known to get 25' tall and wide. They're gorgeous. Your event sounds fabulous. I have FOMO! Come to Boise, ID !

I grow my Silverbush ground cover (your Bush Morning Glory) in full sun here in Temperate South Australia. It grows even in crummy soil, and is extremely drought tolerant although it appreciates regular watering too., as long as it has good drainage. I’ve got it planted where there is no irrigation, and it’s grown nicely over mound I wanted to hide.

African daisies are evergreen for me in Gilroy. They are SO easy, mine don't even get watered and they're beautiful!
Your azalea can certainly get big, if it gets lots of water. I'd put double drippers there. They're very easy to grow. Just fertilize with acid-lovers fertilizer after they bloom and add some chelated iron if the leaves yellow.

Benefits of Coffee Grounds on Plants
First, it is important to point out that we are discussing the use of spent coffee grounds, those that have already been used to make coffee. This is important because fresh and used coffee grounds, as well as brewed coffee, all have different properties. For example, brewed coffee itself is highly acidic, but spent coffee grounds are not. We’ll discuss that aspect in detail below, but first let’s look at the nutrients found in spent coffee grounds, and what benefits they can have on plants.
    Coffee Grounds Contain Nutrients
After coffee has been brewed, the remaining grounds contain a mixture of proteins, oils, and carbohydrates that were not extracted by the water. Nitrogen-rich proteins make up about 10 percent of the spent grounds-and plants use a lot of nitrogen. Coffee grounds also contain potassium, and trace amounts of phosphorous, as well as micronutrients utilized by plants, including calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc.
Coffee Grounds Contribute to Healthy Soil
While coffee grounds contain beneficial nutrients, plants can't utilize those nutrients straight from the grounds themselves. The coffee grounds must first be broken down through composting or natural decomposition. Through these processes, soil microbes transform elemental nutrients found in coffee grounds and other organic materials into compounds usable by plants.
In her article “Using Coffee Grounds in Gardens and Landscapes,” Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott, urban horticulturist at Washington State University notes, “When they are used properly, coffee grounds supply nutrients and provide other benefits that increase plant growth." She adds that, "in general, only composted coffee grounds should be worked in as a soil amendment" for plants.1
Composted coffee grounds also contribute organic matter to soils, which helps improve soil structure, promoting movement of air and water through the soil profile.
Challenges of Using Coffee Grounds on Plants
In addition to the potential benefits of using coffee grounds on plants, studies have also revealed detrimental impacts associated with this practice.1 While most of these challenges have been observed only on crop or landscape plants, they may also apply to houseplants. I hope this helps! Enjoy,I love your videos! Thanks again, Sandy Asposito

Love your channel. 🤩I live in 8b coastal NC. I love, love, love azaleas. I have some of the old ones that bloom only once a year, and of course, I love them. In my new gardens I have switched over to the re-blooming Encore azaleas. (I know Proven Winners have some too.)The re-blooming ones are so, so, worth it! I literally have strong blooms on them for about 2 1/2 - 3 months, twice a years! That is over 1/3rd of the year! They are little trouble because they are shrubs, and the blooms are huge. Encore has a size chart because there is a big difference in foliage color, flower color, height, and bloom size. I have 3 different types, but according to customer service at Encore, Autumn Royal azalea is one of the toughest . It has proven that for me and they takes full sun, even the hot afternoon sun. Once again, I do enjoy your channel and look forward to watching you develop your garden at your new home.

I’m curious why you think bougainvillea was a lot of work. Did it just get unwieldy because it grew so well? I love them and have 4! 😆
And the Elk Grove Green Acres is one of my faves too 🙂

Good morning from Kentucky! I was just wondering if you said you're just to dry for your creeping jenny to really get going. BUT aren't you all out of the drought now?? And you're getting a lot of rain lately?? Lol OH and by the way I do have FOMO!!! LOL🥀🍀🪴🌸🌻

Tulsa Oklahoma!!! Hard to find PW here as well. Two places but they don’t have a bunch in stock. We could get Paul James who use to have a TV show on gardening. I bet we could get a master gardener and someone from OSU Hort to speak and local vendors who sell flowers and food trucks! Maybe hold it at Woodward Park which is gorgeous and has teaching gardens

Hi Janey, I just bought my tickets. I'm looking forward to meeting you, Robbie and Michael. I'm really hoping there will be some Proven Winners nepeta and veronica's there. Since it is so hard to find Proven Winners annuals and especially perennials, it would be helpful if there was a blog or webpage listing nurseries in California and surrounding States that sell Proven Winners and what varieties they carry. Would Proven Winners have this information? I would expect they know what varieties are sold at each nursery. This is separate from their nursery finder on their website because that doesn't list what varieties the nursery sells. Depending on where we live, some of us may be willing to make the drive to find the plant we are looking for. Shipping is so expensive and taking a day trip to visit a nursery to bring home a big haul of plants may be worth the drive.

Hey Jannie. Wanted to tell you about a new Azalea I purchased recently. It’s called Encore Azalea. They come in several colors and bloom more often than regular Azaleas. They grow 2.5 feet tall and work in light shade to full sun. I purchased 3 red ones that are beautiful. They suggest you plant them 1/4 inch above the soil to prevent root rot. I ordered mine online.

That area under the neighbor's tree looks good for your azalea. Even in southeastern NC, zone 8b, azaleas grow great in dappled light. I have a bank of old fashioned azaleas that are now in full sun. They are in full sun because a hurricane took out all our big old trees. They've been in their spot for nearly 30 years, and they are holding their own. But hey! We haven't gotten to the heat of a southern coastal summer yet. Good luck with those pretty plants!

Your event sounds so fun! I’m in NJ outside of Philadelphia and we get lots of Proven Winners here. So I’d definitely love the plants, but I’d come for everything else you listed. I don’t know of events around here that include all of those fantastic activities and people.

According to what I've read azaleas can cause issues to dogs that eat the., nausea, difficulty walking and or siezures. Hope your puppy stays away from them.

I LOVE your excitement for the pop up event! I am 7 hours away but seriously considering making a trip of it because it sounds like a dream! However, if you do one in socal that would be so great and I would for sure be there! Also an idea for your plant transportation haha. We have a tonneau cover for our truck and i keep a laundry basket that I've secure with a bungee cord to a hook. Whenever I have plants I pop them in there and they usually stay in pretty good condition! ☺

Enjoy watching your channel. It's especially fun to see you design your new property. I can't wait to see what you'll do next. I'm glad to know i'm not the only one that gets all excited when I go to a nursery.. So glad you're doing the event. I know the frustration of not finding them. Although I can find some proven winner plants Last year.
    My nursery decided to delete.
a lot of the proven winner's Variety. This Year I ordered online to make sure I got exactly what I wanted .Perhaps some of the nurseries will get the idea and start carrying them. If you do more events come to Missouri (Saint Louis) we
would love to meet you and other gardeners as well.

I'd love to come to your pop-up event, but it's just too far away.
I love your choices in plants. My experience with Osteospermum in my Monterey County, CA zone 8b garden is that they are not only perennials, but they are evergreen. The one caveat in my experience is that they tend to spread much more than two feet. One of mine got to over 4 feet and was actually climbing up one of my roses. And wherever the branches spread, they put out roots. So I have learned I need to keep them cut back. They are beautiful though and worth a little extra training.

Your garden is already looking beautiful. Question, any chance you could put an information link to the exact plants you are putting in during the video, or at least specfic name, down in your video description? Then I could look up the specifics about the plant to see if they would work in my garden. You inspire me with your plant artistic eye. Sometimes i see a plant you get and would love to try....for example that heather...oh so pretty.

Azaleas are one of my favorites!!! I’m from a town that has an entire festival dedicated to them. If you’re ever in the east coast-Check out the Azalea Festival in Wilmington NC. Every April the town is just bursting with gorgeous azaleas. Most planted decades ago. It’s just spectacular! Happy spring gardening! 🌸

@@rachelsgarden Yes! If you can swing it, it's called the "Azalea Festival Garden Tour" put on by the Cape Fear Garden Club. Definitely worth it, in my opinion. ☺ It's usually 7-12 private residence gardens that you get to tour. My husband and I have been going since 2006. Even now living in Virginia we make the drive. 🌸

Janie what is the correct way to spell your name? I see people spelling your name at least 5 different ways. Also the Bush morning glory needs full sun since it has silvery foliage and you didn't plant it. Love your color combinations with the Azalea shrub.

I kept a few milk crates in the back of my truck, so when I was bringing plants home, I could keep them upright. As you know, they don’t like being whipped by the wind either so I would push them up against the back windows of the truck where they got a wind break.

I love this idea. I'm going to try it. And, perhaps now I know why my azaleas don't do well. Some have full sun, some have part sun. Granted most are 20+ years old so I think in general they are done.
