This is what I have been wanting from SW for a while. This is also what I was hoping Boba Fett was going to be like. Really enjoying the show.
I like the gritty backwater junk planet feel of the show. If all planets look as impoverished as this, no wonder the rebellion exists.
omg bobf in the style of andor 🤤
You wanted boba to be like this?
@@jacktheflash8478 yep
Fantastic first episode. No Tatooine. No talk of Jedi or the force. A seriously conflicted lead.
Did anyone else get serious WALL-E vibes from Andor's droid? I wanted to give him a big hug.
He actually reminded me of the floating robots from Disney's The Black Hole.
It reminds me of the cleaning droid from kotor
I did think of wall-e. Lol! 😄
@@simmsquee Vincent and Bob! I thought of them too.
Nope, but now you mention it, I still didn't
Jay's expression, 3 seconds after Andor shot the cop in the face, as your brain caught up to what your eyes saw... Priceless.
Saw some people call the show "boring" which I guess I can see if you prefer action every 10 minutes but I adored it all had a very cold war era feel to it. Loved the architecture as well The Preox-Morlana Corporate Zone gave me massive Soviet era vibes mostly from they're architecture had a very soviet 1950s look to them. I know most fans will never notice this but it's cool that they took ideas from the cold war era, Clone Wars acting as WW2 while the new powers rise. it all felt very HBO like Chernobyl for me a little combined with Man in the High Castle.
I know they'll be people who aren't into slower shows more so people who have been exposed to modern Star Wars and something like the MCU but if you enjoy slower Drama's then this should be right at home. Now do I think the whole series will be slow, no of course not seems EP1 and EP2 were to build up the third episode which will lead into the next episodes. The show alone showcased the average solider and civilian better than any of the Star Wars film and may I add had some of the best writing and dialogue out of the whole series while being able to maintain a mature tone with little hints of fun character moments shining through the darkness.
Respect that this show isn't for everyone but not a fan of people who say "This isn't Star Wars" because to many Star Wars is different things and for myself this is Star Wars with a flesh new spin on it something we haven't seen in live action unless you count the novels that dive more into spy aspects and of course tactual side of the galaxy like Heir to the Empire. This show is as much Star Wars as the original films, Prequals, Sequels, Animation, and Live action TV Shows.
It's not boring, just really depressing.
Yeah I agree with both points. Still hoping for cameos though
It does feel like there's less humor than I'm used to
Absolutely agreed. It’s taking my brain some time to get used to this new type of Star Wars show, but I’m here for it. I like how grounded and gritty it is and the adult themes that a lot of the other Star Wars media only briefly touches on. It actually gives me slight Game of Thrones vibes. In the you can’t trust everyone and everyone for themselves sort of way.
Very well said.
What got me was the writing. So much "show, don't tell" with people and the character interactions made it easy to understand what people mean to each other. Haven't had that in Star Wars, maybe ever? Sets the tone so well. Watched with my wife and it's the sort of things she wouldn't like normally but it's so well made and written she really likes it.
"Enhance and Augment" 😁Yeah Diego Luna killing it on Andor. Making us proud here in Mexico
This 3-episode arc was EXCELLENT. More of that, please.
Great reaction, as always, guys! The thing I love about this episode - and the first 3 episodes in the series so far - is writer Tony Gilroy clearly understood that Star Wars fans do not need to be reminded every 5 minutes that we're in the SW galaxy with a famous location from a SW movie, or having a character from a SW movie we love pop up just so we can all go "Look who it is!". He's just focused on telling a good story that just so happens to take place in the SW galaxy. It's refreshing to have a SW show like that. Also... PLIZZARDS! LOL
One of the reasons Rogue One was so great. Sure, you had Vader poppin up, but it made sense for the story and wasn't overdone. It was just a well produced story set in a universe that felt lived in.
The worldbuilding in this series is amazing. Like the architecture, the little cultural beats, these feel like unique planets and world. Chef's kiss.
Thank you Adam for the explanation of "BBY 5"! I thought that was some Imperial code for the location itself.
They really nailed the look and feel of the original Star Wars and 70s sci-fi in general. The casting, the costumes, the set designs, the mostly brown and beige colors, the pacing. That droid for example, feels like a mix between Silent Running and The Black Hole. It really looks like a droid that you would see in a movie from the 70s. Love it!
Adam calling the Deputy Inspector "Bully Maguire" is the best comment I've heard about this show so far lmao 😂
I thought it was Bully Ben Schwartz 😂😂
This first episode really gives me hope that this is going to be the dark, gritty series I've been hoping it will be. It is obviously gonna have some levity and humor to it, but they don't seem to be doing it at the expense of the atmosphere.
Not translating the Kenari is an interesting choice, but somehow we can still tell what they are saying.
Additionally the sets look great so far, this world legitimately feels lived in.
The casting call for the brothel maiden surely was "Bjork at any VMA from 1996-2001"
this show is exactly what star wars NEEDED
How so?
@@jackdubz4247 It needed something different. I enjoy The Mandalorian, but it (and _very much_ The Book of Boba Fett) has become so filled with fan-service and reference. Obi-Wan Kenobi was also of course about character we know very well who has existed since the first Star Wars movie and the show felt like pretty standard Star Wars.
That's not to say I want every show to be like Andor now though, and I really hope they don't fall into that trap of having something successful and going "Yeah! Now do that over and over!" I hope The Mandalorian Season 3 sticks with the same tone it always has, I hope The Acolyte has a different tone from both, and I do hope that at least one or two projects at a time always return to the typical lighthearted mystical adventure tone that defines Star Wars. But this is a massive universe with so many stories to explore. I want writers and directors to be able to tell their story and create their vision.
this is by far the most invested ive been in a show since mando season 1. super pumped to see what happens after episode 3
The writing on this show is so sharp.
Very strong opening barely 10 minutes in we see first ever Star Wars brothel and 2 people killed sorted this will be a very good show having seen all 3 episodes it’s so good
I absolutely love this show. I needed an adult Star Wars.
Street level Star Wars, that's the best way to describe it, and I love it!
This first episode was really good. I'm cautiously optimistic for this series.
I cannot wait to see y’all’s reaction to episode 3! Gave me chills
They shoulda had a bubble with a big anthropomorphic duck drinking a martini.
It really took me 8 hours to remember the name "Lord of the Flies"
A slow burn is so good! it's tragic that people have no patience of it.
I am already so hooked. I mean, I'm always hooked for star wars, but this is very intreaguing!
You probably don't remember cause...it was sequel trilogy. But in Rise of Skywalker we get introduced to D-O on the ancient Sith ship. Who had the shakes and a slight speech impediment. He seemed to be anxious, and nervous, seemingly because the Sith abused, beat or all of the above him.
I thought of him when B2 first spoke
I thought B2’s speech impediment and maneurisms sounded familiar. Now I know why.
So far they are doing a good job at letting you exist in scenes, show instead of tell while having good, useful dialogue and the body language and scenery is telling more of the story than the people are!
The kids were left behind and survive in a similar way to those kids in " Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome"
The rabbit droid we saw in Boba was also in clone wars.
Wobani first appeared in Rogue One and was the planet Jynn was being held on when she gets liberated. Its also a anagram for Obi Wan!
BLUUUDLES!
For anyone who is curious about the Blue Noodles, the recipe is called Gorrmaanda's Glowblue Noodles. It's mentioned in the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Cookbook.
I feel like this first episode had so many small moving pieces, it really lets you in on what's being established. Even if not much technically happened, there's so many components that it never felt slow to me. I knew this show was going to blow me away but it's just so good
It feels more like a developing story, than most Star Wars where we already know what's what.
The droid reminds me of B.O.B from "The Black Hole"...
Good call, I hadn't thought of that, but it would be a nice nod to a show that was a wannabe 'Star Wars.'
Just slap some googly eyes on it and there you go.
Interesting to see a Star Wars episode where jay doesn’t cry
Cassian with a full beard looks like a young Paul McCartney singing Get Back on the Roof Top.
In the space brothel, guacamole is complimentary. Right next to the space pretzelsl
I'm one of the few who seems to have mostly enjoyed all the content since the Disney acquisition (except resistance and Rise of Skywalker) Including Book of Boba and Kenobi, but I am glad there is a more "mature" series for the people who crave that. I've loved this series so far, and I hope Star Wars continues with a wider variety of tones in the future.
My sum up of Andor so far:
This feels like a show Stellan Skarsgård would be in...
Love It!!! ❤️
Wobani is an imperial camp featured in Rogue One
First time since Mando season 2 that I've been genuinely happy watching star wars. Everything in between just seemed like "It's a good idea on paper" to me and it's such a relief to see how good this is so far.
Am I the only one who thought of Wall-ee when Droid was going thru the junk?
The "happy past?" The one with no one over 25 left. Maybe they're waiting for their ride to Tomorrow-moro-land.
I’m really enjoying this show! I can’t wait to see where it goes
He dies at the end.
Did anyone else notice that most of the male actors have Irish accents? I like this so far. It’s exactly how the leaks described. Very dark and gritty and grounded and noticeably more mature than the other Star Wars TV and movies we’ve gotten so far. And yet unmistakably Star Wars. Though the space cops were a bit cringe. Also according to the audio description the anval the bell ringer uses is bescar. I didn’t register that that was Andor’s first kill. I mean I knew he was shell shocked, but I thought it was because he had very little stomach for death and violence as we saw in the flashbacks and was shocked by his own brutality. But I think you’re right and his reaction totally makes sense.
Irish?
James McArdle and Alex Ferns are both Scottish. The rest all have English accents.
@@voiceofraisin3778 my mistake. And yah true.
The trailer gave me the right vibe for this. This feels a lot like Blade Runner 2049 and I'm all here for it! Just with aliens instead of weird robots
Adam's so right - Star Wars has the cute robot market absolutely cornered.
I love this show so dang much! The writing, the acting, everything is fantastic!
Adam, you found an excellent way to get the "and/or" joke in there. And I'm furious.
32 seconds in... worked for it. AND OR how I learned I love Jay more.
Love you too Mr. Small Wonder
First three episodes blew me away. Fantastic use of side characters that have both practical and emotional payoff, maintains tension and suspense throughout and fleshes out the ground level of star wars. So excited to see more!
I wanted Boba fett to be like this. The undee belly of star wars.
The bounty hunter side of star wars. The grit.
That's fair. I didn't mind TBoBF, but it wasn't especially good. It definitely could've been much, much better. Perhaps if they decide to go at it again, they might take notes from Andor.
I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the Galaxy. I have no fruit to declare! My papers are in order!!
Its so rewarding having rogue one as my favorite star wars then getting this
This is what a good star wars show should look and feel like: not action every 10 minutes, which makes the action scene more eventful. The show is taking time, building up and eventually giving us the emotional toll.
The first 3 episodes was like a mini movie by itself! Loved it 👏👏
At first I thought the guy on the PA was JK Simmons because I'm so used to a gruff voice like that yelling for Spider-Man. Plus I had barely any sleep 😂
Wobani is the prison planet Jyn was on. Also an anagram for Obi Wan.
No ambiguity this time - Andor shot first
Bludles and Plizards are now permanently part of my vocabulary.
I was initially sure the officer was a de-aged Kyle McLaughlin.
"I'd like a side of plizzard bacon with my bloodles please" (bluedles?)
So they’ve started actually telling us where we are and using the BBY/ABY system. Sweet!
Coming from early November where we're waiting for episode 10..... jeepers creepers this show is really good.
this is the best and most seamless podcast plug > patreon plug > subscribe call to action > name & fix it so far
He's not evil Tobey McGuire, he's Arnold Judas Rimmer from Red Dwarf.
I'm not going to believe that untili see him salute!
I think the kids are all orphans from the Clone Wars. at least that's the feeling im getting.
I bet that Lieutenant ends up in the ISB.
"Fear the cut of my jib! I'm a good corporate stooge!"
Quote of the freaking day
Happy yall gave it 3/3 Pllizzards ♥ I loved this premier and I've watched it again, loving it more.. I can't wait for 4,5,6.
My first reaction was exactly like Jay's: Came in with no real expectations except that the trailer looked good. Had even read that the show was a bit (too) slow. That very first scene just grabbed me, and I've been loving everything about the show. Can't wait for season 2!
FINALLY! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT TOBEY MAGUIRE!
Am I the only one who thinks "Bee" ends up becoming K2...their behaviours are somewhat similiar....
if i am blessed with 2 boys in the future, i hope they have the same bond and sense of humor as these two. PLIZZARDS!
Star Wars with no wars, and barely any stars. The Rebels are never mentioned, the Empire is barely mentioned. The very idea of a lightsaber seems out of place in this dark, gritty world. It’s such a slice of life show set in a small corner of the galaxy, populated by characters with stuff going on. It’s got texture. I love it.
Ya, I didn't think it was Boring, plus looks like after episode 3 things gonna get wild.
"The Brightest PIPING!!!!".... Sweet Jesus. Cosplay it.
Well played on the Andor Adam 😂Jay is in his pocket 😂
Syril Karn is officially the Arnold Rimmer of Star Wars. I see him servicing vending machines on the Death Star with high efficiency.
Surely I'm not the only one who thought of the kid tribe from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome while watching the Kendari scenes?
10:36 I’m so glad Adam FINALLY got cast in something Star Wars!
Watching ep1 right now, then watching this reaction. LFG!!
I knew you were going to go with the low hanging And/Or joke. And I am not disappointed.
I noticed that in the kenari flashback there are no adults. 🤔
Andor gets 2 out of 1 dead rent-a-cops.
The droid B2EMO kinda reminds me of Vincent from The Black Hole...another Disney movie.
I know it's minor, the the moment I knew this show had nailed it, was seeing they cast Rupert Vansittart as the Chief Security guy. Super underrated actor, known mostly in the UK for playing Lord Ashfordly in Heartbeart (also recently, Game of Thrones, of course), but he has that 'person with responsibility that's seen it all' energy that's perfect for that role.
I'm just glad they're not on a desert planet.
This show is slow, but in a good "story" way. It's building a different kind of star war, dark, political, adult story.
It's so different it's good.
I'm not going to make a decision about it yet.....
Peace ✌️
How I'd describe the first three episodes?
"Tom Clancy's Star Wars"
Wobani was the prison planet in Rogue One that Jyn Erso was “rescued” from by K2 and Cassian…..
In my opinion, this episode should have started with the clip from Episode III where Palpatine announced the beginning of the Empire and Padme saying, "So, this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause"
5BBY is the same exact year that Star Wars rebels animated series first episode starts and a bunch of events that happened with the ghost crew.... Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker and Ezra are literally 14 years old during this... I thought I recognized the date but wasn't 100% sure well I am now,, pretty easy to google search epic easter egg.... A season two has already been approved and will lead right up to the rogue one movie which means at some point we will see more of Star Wars rebels but from a different point of view ...Like what happens in episode 18 of season 3 of Star Wars rebels
I waited to finish this before I got to ya'll's reaction. Man. I was wishing for a show with no light sabers and space battles! This episode is so slow, but memorable. See ya in the second!
To be fair, the writing already seems tighter than Obi-Wan and Boba Fett and im going to watch it because it actually makes it feel fun to be in the Star Wars universe, but I feel like it suffers the same problem most of the new Star Wars media has lately. The stakes are almost nonexistent for Cassian, and we’ve already explored his character and aren’t exactly treading new ground.
Here we see Cass starts out a morally questionable criminal who will do anything to find his sister despite being a caring person deep down, and we know he ends up a morally questionable spy who will do anything to fight the Empire despite being a caring person deep down.
I hope the the journey is more compelling than I think it will be, because Diego Luna is great in the role and it feels like it’s about time for another piece of Star Wars media for the “objectively good” pile.
Love your reaction and love this show its really different but still starwars and I'm here for it
How am I just now finding out about a Horizon show in a reaction to Andor??? Also, love your reactions and so excited because I hadn’t watched the show but kept getting notifs from you guys and it killed me that I could watch when they dropped 😅
"Star Wars of Thrones" fucking nailed it
Wobani is where Jyn Erso is in prison in Rogue One
Can't wait to watch the fixing of Rogue One! Been watching you guys from years, lurking in the dark space.... never mind that. But finally subscribed!
"Have we ever seen a brothel in Star Wars before?" The closest thing I can think of is Jabba's Palace.
