“Are you telling me in a world of droids, we can’t find one to hammer?” Legitimately the first thing I thought, then I saw the dude’s flair and love for the hammering and I gotta tell you, replacing him with a droid would make me sad.
Yeah, I think it's implied that this is a traditional act for the town. If the droid in question was more sentient and "grew up" among Ferrix' inhabitants, and believed in what it was doing... then it would probably also lead the role in the same spirit. But it's that spirit that matters.
Little bit of a possible easter egg, the symbol on the arms of the guys wearing the hazmat suit is the Separatist symbol, so that may give a bit of a time frame as to when the flashback is happening. Aka, during the Clone Wars.
The Galactic Clangers Union would like you to know that clanging is a long, time honored tradition and resent your insinuation that a droid could do the job of a biological clanger.
A lot of Chernobyl cast in this series. The guy with the mustache on the shuttle. The big guy with security stirring up mr uptight is the leader of the miners in Chernobyl.
Thank you!! I knew I recognized him, but it's been too long since I watched Chernobyl and could NOT for the life of me remember where I'd seen him before.
This was 30 minutes of GREAT TV and I kind of forgot until the credits rolled that I was in the Star Wars universe. Such character development in just three episodes. The pace is not slow at all for me. I actually prefer the somewhat realistic fight scenes, action scenes, etc. than all the CGI insanity. Good acting, great cinematography and in the Star Wars universe? THIS is what we've been asking for, it's basically an HBO Max level show.
Your description of the security officer as 'the guy who cares too much' makes me think a little - one of my favorite Luke establishing character moments is the "I care!" moment in ANH. I feel like this guy is a kind of weird inverse of him - he's looking for a cause, wants to do the right thing and is probably going to waltz right into the Empire. Krennic MIGHT qualify as a tryhard bad guy, but maybe in a different way. He always seemed just a BIT in over his head, and Tarkin was able to completely anticipate/out maneuver him at every turn, and then he (as the Auralnauts say) tried to take his HR complaints to a dark lord of the Sith, which did NOT go well for him. That said, he had at least some measure of competence and was rightfully pissed that Tarkin was going to take credit for his project. (Actually my favorite analogy for Krennic is a frustrated project manager, haha.)
Lol I’m laughing at frustrated project manager because it’s accurate. And Vader is the CEO that’s simultaneously overenthusiastic and just done with it all.
@@HQofrandom His boss laid out the reason: the two security agents were corrupt and trying to shake down a citizen after drinking on the job and visiting a brothel. All violations of the law as a security agent. The boss understood that they ran into what was coming to them and justice had truly been served and the two corrupt agents had been taken care of by their own choices. The lawful evil officer wants to pursue the law no matter the mitigating circumstances. No matter how corrupt the agents were. It's an exercise in ethics rather than "doing the right thing".
I think Adam is inside my head. I also love just being in the SW universe. There was a moment in Kenobi, when they first got to Tokyo Town, and a ship was landing in the background. The sound gave me chills, and it was just the sound of a ship landing. That's what we need, not super-powerful force-users. Not crazy special effects. Just stuff happening in this universe we all love.
It speaks volumes that this planet is the hind end of nowhere that its more cost effective to have a human do a job than spring for a Droid. In fact, it sure seems like there are very few droids here at all.
Remember in ANH, the way the bartender reacted to C-3PO and R2-D2. The Clone wars, where the the Separatists used a large Droid army that probably scared a lot of Republic citizens, is only 10-15 years past. It makes absolute sense that Droids would be less common and viewed with greater suspicion. And they aren't going to give a job that clearly has an important ceremonial aspect to it (look at his forms, the stances he takes, etc.) to a Droid.
I think the back of the head thing has some merit to it. I believe there have been some cases where the nose bone (I’m not a doctor) can get shoved right into the brain
06:13 😮 Jay letting a little Earth Wind and Fire leak out, once again elevating the already high level of esteem in which I hold this duo. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 *edit* and Beastie Boys, too? Dude. 🙂
The descriptive audio on this episode says that the anvil that hammer man is using is made of Beskar. If Beskar is as rare as they say in The Mandalorian that is probably the single most valuable item in the Star Wars universe. ⚒
For years I was ignorant enough to believe that Star Wars meant “Luke, Leia and friends” and I’m so glad I was wrong, really enjoying the fact that there are otherwise “normal” people in a universe that actually have to fight a war also.
Deputy Inspector guy is what happens when you thrust a man with high int and wis but low char into a leadership position and let them go into the field.
I'm glad you brought the point that it's a little slower pace to begin with, but I do like it. And I'm excited to see what episode 3 is going to bring. And it is what day-to-day life would be in a planet that's full of what seems to be workers. With the agenda of rebel essence being around
I am LOVING the world building in this series. Things just *are*, not handholding-explained to the audience. It's expected the audience will just accept or understand it.
I think what I love most about this villain is that he's MUNDANE. He's not Evil in the sense that we're used to with Star Wars. He's not a Sith Lord, or Tarkin, or any of that. This guy works in our offices- we ALL know this guy. This is the guy saying "well if they didn't want to be harassed by the cops they shouldn't have broken the law or appeared to have been breaking the law" or "Corporations' only moral drive should be to make more money for their shareholders regardless of how they do it." Not every Villain is Hitler. Some are Jakob Schmidt, a janitor whose adherence to rules and opposition to anyone who disrespected authority got three German college students executed by the Nazis because he reported them for passing out anti-Nazi literature.
They knew they were doing two seasons. So why didn't they film them back to back instead of making us wait till 2024 for season 2? Tony Gilroy said in an interview that as they were breaking the story they started to form these mini arcs every 3 episodes so they leaned into that which is why the end of each episode will continue to come out of nowhere except for every third episode. Each director got 3 episodes and they filmed them like a 90 minute movie. I think the idea to have season two have the 3 episodes be a little story then jump forward a year between them came after that idea. So at the end of this season it'll jump a year forward. Then every 3 episodes it'll jump another year till the final 3 episodes somehow end mere minutes before we meet Cassian in Rogue One. It's an interesting story structure and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it.
I keep thinking back to Jay's comment after (i think) S2E8 of The Mandalorian: "guys, I like Star Wars again." After the dumpter fires of Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan, I was dreading Andor. But the first two episodes are SO. GOOD. y'all!
Star Wars has always been anti-fascist, and this is a great way to deepen exploration of a central theme of the franchise. This show highlights the thinking and behavior of younger and/or lower ranked people eager to serve the Empire, or just willing to enforce its will. Fascism and imperialism in the real world always relies on people being eager or willing to serve, and most of them don't think of themselves as evil. In Andor, these aren't faceless stormtroopers - these are men who make deliberate choices to serve the will of The Empire. Syril Karn is such a great example of the eager fascist, and Sgt. Kostek is a great example of one who's not as ambitious or grandiose, but just happy to do his job crushing dissent under the boot of empire. They are interesting villains because they are so real. A great counterpart to the believable and low-level adversaries (our protagonists) on the side of the (growing) rebellion.
For clarification, Cassian bacstory takes place during the Clone Wars era. You can clearly see CIS sigils on the suit of the dead spaceman. I think we have a Lost Boys/Lord of the flies situation here. The children are the survivors of the Mining Disaster. They formed a tribe and use the old clothes from the mines.
I like to think the beating of the drum, is just an old tradition. And in someway having a droid do it, belittles that tradition. It just adds a nice little (in my own head cannon) history to the town.
And now because of you I have stuck in my head "Felix the cat! The wonderful wonderful cat! Whenever he gets in a fix he reaches into his bag of tricks!"
why does an open pit mine in the Star Wars universe have roads running around it for the mining trucks to get down, when all the vehicles literally float?
I love watching your reactions, even if I don't care for the show, I still watch your reactions. I receive a better perspective and a better appreciation. Thanks so much.
Just binged the show and am watching all of these reactions backwards. I started with Rix Road(because I had too). Watching the de evolution of the Andir opening song joke is magic.
They’ve also captured the cooperate culture so well--the “I don’t give a fuck as long as I don’t look bad” higher up, the “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” employees, the try-hard, the bootlicker? So very good.
I'm thinking the history of Kinari has been one of multiple mining disasters. The symbol on the uniforms of the crashed ships crew is that of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. What ever the children in the jungle survived that removed all the adults, happened during or before the Clone Wars, within the last 10 years, it was probably a CIS, mining guild or techno Union operation. We hear that there was also a mining accident on Kinari after the Empire took over I think this was a second later accident and why Cassian is looking for his sister she was removed from the world when the Empire pulled everyone off it. There are several, of what I am now going to assume are, flash backs we have not seen yet from the trailers. The scene with the Clone Troopers and the scene of the Star Destroyer at relatively low altitude over what I think is Kinari.
I remember someone saying "bastard" in Mandalorian season 1. It was in the prison break episode with Bill Burr. But if you were surprised about that just wait until episode 3!
Oh well, there goes that notion of me thinking I was the only person who thought Lord of the Flies on that planet where Cassian was raised. Thanks guys!
age is pretty easy to know andor is born 26BBY in the shots of his past he is was 12 years old ? so that would make it 14BBY. Luke was born 19BBY So the flashbacks are "around" 4-6 years after episode 3. since the stormtroopers was founded 19BBY directly that should make you know all you need
Good Grief - comments RIGHT ON TARGET! Man...I've not been a SW fan really since ESB (aka ep 5), never got into Old, New or whatever Republic. Liked the movies and that's it. ANDOR is completely changing that. Love the real personality issues, crisply defined and flavorful characters. Even supporting cast of the supporting characters are superbly sculpted - a full rich blend of writer and actor bringing people LIVING in the Star Wars universe to life. ANYWAY, loving your comments. Will experience my THIRD viewing of Andor series via your Comment Videos. THANKS.
Remember the story that Empire secretly mined a planet for Death Star materials and then they went for leave no witnesses and called it an accident like they called a destruction of Jedda a mining accident😉👍
Andor is the most Star Wars Star Wars has ever been… Star Wars but wise and educated instead of naïve, Star Wars but mature and complex instead of infantile. It’s the best it’s ever been. At its core Star Wars is an allegory, and Jedi, Sith, all that jazz, that’s ultimately sparkly chaff. Andor dares to show the core, the heart of the rebellion. Also as for hammer guy and anvil: given the devotion he invests into his job maybe it has ritual meaning which is why a droid couldn’t replace the hammer guy.
Guys, you did not notice the Ghost ship (aka Rebels ship or similar ship) on the shipyard when the caretaker was turning off the lights at end-of-workday?
I wish I was that hammer guy, dude CLEARLY loves his job and takes pride in it.
imagine having a job and it's always hammer time whenever you get on the job by definition
Lol right? He plays his heart out with those hammers.
I'm pretty sure there's probably some religious or ritual significance to the way he rings the bell too
Not "has to" beat the sound anvil.
GETS TO beat the sound anvil.

Someone’s mind is about to be blown by Episode 3. 🙂
I gotta be honest I would prefer sleemo) it’s huttese for bastard)
And also Episode 8. Finn says it quite loudly.

"The best way to keep watching is to... FIX IT!"

so would one say Andor is, perhaps, a kanari in a coal mine? (I'll see myself out)
HA!

That security officer in charge is clearly Lawful Evil (but without a lot of confidence yet). He's still in "bad guy training"
He looks like an evil version of Dale Cooper to me.
What makes him evil though? From his perspective two of his co-workers were murdered and no one wants to investigate
