For a bit of Poppy backstory, she's originally a pop artist, and still very much is, but out of nowhere came out with a metal EP in 2019 and has been slowly taking over the modern metal scene with new heavy music and features like this ever since. Such a unique artist in today's landscape, she does not care what anybody thinks and comes out with anything she feels like coming out with.
Also I don't think I have ever heard her scream before this track and I was not expecting her to go punch for punch with Knocked Loose the way she did here. She absolutely crushed this feature!
She has a couple songs where she screams, but in my opinion this feature is her best work as far as screaming goes hehe. Songs like "Bite Your Teeth" and "Say Cheese" are songs where she screams. She also did a cover of Spit by Kittie which was super good 😊
Her first metal songs were in 2018 with X and Hard Feelings,both were completely out of nowhere and were a sign of things to come,I was a fan of hers even when she was doing bubblegum pop songs,that were all pink but had sinister undertones of control and fear,then she released metal songs and I was hooked for life lol.

Before she even did music she was a character created by Titanic Sinclair that just made bizarre UA-cam videos. It was an art project.
She started screaming years ago, and her more metal tracks started around her second album, she's being doing this for a while now
I knew poppy could do metal vocals but I did NOT know her vocal fry went that hard.

Her scream after the breakdown is terrifying. It’s so raw. Favorite collab. Her voice and eeriness fit the vibe perfectly

It sounds like your former partner was very cruel and uncaring, but friend, you were not destroyed, don’t give him that power. You are here and he is your “former” partner, so you escaped him. I am proud of you for that. This does not mean however that you do not need to be supported still, you deserve to have support from family, friends, and therapist you have the chance to talk with, that will help you to recover from this past trauma and leave you healed and prepared for future partners.
You deserve to feel fulfilled, happy and safe whomever you are with, and I truly hope in time that you do start to feel this way. I wish you all the luck in the world. Lisa x

Daily it is a struggle to find self worth after all I’ve been working through. All I have is hope and continue to push myself forward. Whether it’s for myself or others here or passed. I’ve been through a constant struggle with life the last 20 years and I’ve done nothing but hope for the best. My last relationship really put me in the gutter.
I push myself each day with the thought, I want to make my father proud.
Music has always been a huge part of my life thanks to my father who passed last February. He was the original guitarist of the turtles. I occupy my free time practicing and writing music to distract my train of thought. Coping mechanism if you will.
Anyway, once again, thank you! I hope others will see the video as well and hopefully it will help others in a way. 🖤 Thank you for the support.

But don’t reach for me only imo revolves around a bad parent or relative that is religious, might even be a priest or something.
And suffocate wasn’t even written specifically for the album but afterwards specifically after Poppy reached out.
But dude, all cool, you can interpret music however you like. Just don’t loose yourself in in hate against an institution. Deal with yourself, not others. That’s always the best way. And keep on enyoing Knocked Loose, the best band around currently! ❤️

I like this trend of artists giving their interpretation of other bands work. It just started cropping up, but it's cool. Judging by the bands other 2 releases, this album seems to be about some qualms with Christianity and the church

Never watched you before, but oh my god you earned ALL of my respect (and my sub ofc!) at 9:15. There's such an air of misogyny in the metal community, so this was such a wonderful thing to hear from someone who works in the industry. The metal community can be SO toxic sometimes with literally every aspect of it ("so and so isn't metal!" even though there's hundreds of subgenres), so it's lovely to find someone in the community who is so open minded about Poppy and this song in general! It's honestly one of my FAVOURITES right now. Bring on the new album!!

this song is relatable. ive definitely felt as if I have to walk on eggshells around my partner and would often not speak what was on my mind because I knew it would make things worse or nothing would be done. my mistakes were always pointed out to me but I wasn't allowed to do the same.
