  • THE MOST BREATHTAKING PLACE IN ARGENTINA - MOUNT FITZROY & LAGUNA DE LOS TRES PATAGONIA HIKE
    In this video we spend our first day in the famous little Argentina town of El Chalten, we waste no time heading out on one of the most famous hikes in Patagonia, the very long and very steep climb to the base of mount Fitzroy. Along the way we encountered every type of Patagonian weather imaginable which was an adventure in itself. The views along this hike are of course incredible and although we set off early from our accommodation we still didn’t make it up and down before dark (filming takes a while and also the sunset is earlier at this time of year) totally worth it though.
    It is without doubt one of the most breathtaking places we have ever set our eyes on, we really hope once again that our footage can go some way to demonstrate this to you all and hopefully inspire some of you to take on this hike, it’s been our favorite so far in Patagonia and if you’ve been watching our Argentina series you’ll know we have done a few!
    We make it to the base of mount Fitzroy and Lago de Los Tres and despite the cloud that often hugs Fitzroy the whole place was dramatic and felt almost unearthly. Another moment in Argentina where the views are so incredible you have to keep staring to convince yourself that it’s real.
    After the toughest bit of the climb not only were we rewarded with the views but a perfectly timed fly by from a Condor, it flew straight past us and in fact it was slightly below us so we had a perfect view of it’s wingspan and cool markings on it’s back… you know you have climbed high when a Condor flies below you!

    While Fitzroy is certainly considered one of hardest peaks for Mountaineers, I'm curious as to how you've never mentioned the Peak that lies only 4km from Fitzroy, and got many years was called the hardest peak in the world - that is Cerro Torre - sheer rock face of 10,000 feet with a mushroom of rime ice on its apex
    Check it out - it's STUNNING

    Thank you for another wonderful video. I will be in El Chalten for almost a week and hope to complete this hike. I'm curious as to what time you started? And what time did you finish? All the videos I've watched so far say to start before sunrise. I even bought a headlamp specifically for this hike.

    • @TideKnotTravellers
      @TideKnotTravellers  2 роки тому +1

      If you have a week it might be nice to camp at one of the two campsites along the hike (we walk through them in the video) many people do that to break the hike up and enjoy the nature longer and yes then it’s a great idea to get up early and head up there. We left our accommodation at 8am but it took us a while to puck up food and walk to the start of the trail so we started around 9.30am from the trail start sign (shown as Kirsty walks under the sign at the start) it takes us longer due to filming on the way up and we spent around 1.5 hours at the top. We left around 4pm to head back down and it took us around 4.5 hours so we were in darkness for the last hour and needed our head torches 🔦 there are restaurants as soon as you finish the hike which are a very welcome sight 😅

      @@TideKnotTravellers I can't wait to do this. I also think I'm luck in that the sunset difference is a few hours too! Camping one night would be awesome too. I'd have to look into renting some equipment but would probably do the one day trek. I saw somewhere that you can "cheat" and take a taxi to another starting point to remove a few kilometers from the hike.

    • @TideKnotTravellers
      @TideKnotTravellers  2 роки тому +1

      @@bettyli6635 Yes if you are going at a time of year with longer daylight hours then you’ll be fine. We enjoyed walking back even though it got dark we heard more wildlife then which was exciting. Yes you can get a taxi to cut out the first bit but then you miss the beautiful views overlooking El Chalten. It’s a good option though if short on time. You can rent camping equipment in lots of places in the town, many do it and there are signs everywhere for camping rental equipment.

      We tried so hard to get to Torres del Paine but during our time in EC the land border to Chile was still closed, everyone was gutted and some were taking some long convoluted routes to get there which we considered but it would have added days of travel. Chile were still being quite strict/difficult about letting people in. Now it has opened so you should be ok.
