There is a huge danger to cancel culture. There is a trend this week to stop it now which is a relief. There is the 'check and balance' system for a reason. We can allow a society to think differently, be allowed to a make mistake, ask questions first before deciding, be allowed from your previous stance on things to change..to evolve, to be heard and listened to fully, and most of all to investigate on any situation fully before making a call.

@Veronica Rainone Yes. What people are failing to realize is that when you take the opportunity away from someone to voice an opinion, they begin developing resentment towards those who took their opportunity away. The cancellers may think they won, but they just drove these opinions underground either through fear or resentment. That leads to anger, which leads to hatred.
Look there’s people who genuinely deserve being cancelled but, way too often “cancelling” someone is just a way to permanently silence or discourage different opinions.
I Agree. Some people deserve to be removed from public life because of the unspeakable things they did, usually an actual crime that carries a serious offense. Others are being cancelled simply because they voice an opinion and others are too fragile to even talk about that opinion and discourage debate. They act as though because they belong to a certain group, I can't voice opinions about your group without being(whatever it is)phobic/ist.The #1 rule of any debate is you NEVER attack your opponent, only your opponent's ARGUMENT. Now I can't voice an opinion about anything on the gays or black people or immigrants without being labelled homophobic/racist/xenophobic/etc.
Yes some people deserve to be cancelled especially literal predators or unethical people but cancelling people because of their past when they don't do those things anymore and have changed is toxic and disgusting

@Railqun since when is it that you didn't learn you can post literally everything on the internet, and be safe because of an anonymous identity, you can hide your actions into a machine, but then again, you'll regret being that way, and change, that's all they gotta do in order to fit into society. And also, where's my change in cents?
Don't you know people change you dumbass? If someone is making a racist joke a decade ago, should it fuck up there lives now? Unless they posted a video of them hanging a black man, I personally think you should cancel people for that.
Sometimes cancel culture can be very productive and necessary. (I.e. Harvey Weinstein). but for the most part it’s just a bunch of insecure, overly sensitive people digging up nonsense from the past because they like the drama. (I.e Kevin Hart, Jenna Marbles, Etc.)
@@brookkassa8479 Ok, the what about Oprah? She introduced women to him. Should she be cancelled for enabling him? No way she didn't know what was going on.

Garage doors, chess, music theory, algebra, magic cards, professors, actors, pillows, pizza, personal finances. It's also racist to want to keep an African-American on a syrup bottle, but not racist to remove her.
It's a double-edged sword. More recently are the Karens and Chads who go off on a personal vent, get recorded/uploaded, and often get fired. But it's a lesson in conduct. In some cases, the consequences are far too harsh. Someone shouldn't have to worry about a picture or post from decades ago (unless it's a crime).
I've been hearing about this and had to Google what it is. So right now, during a pandemic and a nut case in the White House, our economy in a shambles, people facing evictions and record unemployment, we suddenly care about who's watching, following or liking someone? Give me a break! How's the retribution of Putin going for putting a price on American soldiers heads? How about we care about that?!
@Will Morgan you have to do your own research as there’s too much ground for me to cover in a UA-cam comment section. I recommend “Steven hicks explaining postmodernism in 2018”, its a lecture on UA-cam.
@Will Morgan the main reason for me is how postmodernism fails to integrate past knowledge with new existing knowledge to create something new and more practical. See in the past when we’re confronted with new knowledge that conflicts with our worldview what we do is integrate prior knowledge with the new existing one but postmodernism literally throws the baby out with the bath water and fails to integrate prior knowledge with anything.
I can imagine being canceled for what I did with my private parts in my private time. From where I stand canceling isn't something new, the nnew thing is that it's now also the homophobes that get canceled. Canceling is very often people getting a taste of their own medicine,
These are very bad examples of cancel culture everyone they mentioned should be canceled..however what about the ppl who honestly made a mistake or spoke out of jest....social media needs to be canceled....we need to get back to reading real books with hard covers send letters with a postage stamp.....
Is this where we are going now?, if you don't like what someone said or what they feel, don't listen to them? I don't see how it goes further than that. Culture is not our friend, any culture. Any mass group of people is no more valid than 1 person or to be more specific you. The only way we will ever understand each other is to listen to each other, silencing people is not the answer now, never was never will be. The problem with this whole shit is people who think they are right. Being right, righteousness feeling as though you know and others don't is a virus. None of us are right about anything, the very best we can hope for in life is an understanding of the laws of nature, that's what this school is for. All this bullshit we partake In out here is just a distraction from our only purpose, realizing what we actually are. I may not like what someone has to say but I'd fight like he'll for their right to say it... censorship is for people who are afraid of truth and a tool for the suppression of information. Thats all it ever is.
from all these problems of censorship and if it continues on, my thoughts always goes back to dystopias. Haven't we've been warned about this? Fahrenheit 451 comes to mind for me.

This is why I say fuck it, why should I care what other people say. The sad reality is society is full of nothing but multi-standards and unreasonable expectations.
I do think there is a distinction between having an unpopular/misinformed opinion and then becoming educated about something and coming around vs. abject criminal behavior right?
Yes but people generally aren't that intelligent. There's no nuance and grey areas, everything is either virtuous or racist/sexist/elitist/something- IST .. sound like virtue signalling at its purest to me.

I watched sooooooooooo many videos hoping one would explain to me what "cancel culture" is, but none did, and instead got me more confused each time I watched a different video. This one, on the other hand, was brief, simple, and helped me understand it, so thank you.
I too have found the term confusing, and only because my wife said she still doesn't understand it did I look for some type of explanation. I think the term is still pretty loosey goosey and can mean different things to different people. IMHO, cancel culture can mean MUCH more than just a Twitter censoring, or a cancelled show due to controversy. George Orwell, I don't think, ever used the term in his iconic '1984' novel, but I think he was describing it just the same. And I also think part of why his work is still so fascinating to so many is because we keep seeing his dystopian future unfold before our eyes. Not sure if you've read it, but in his book, they "reprinted" history, news articles etc. to keep the current narrative (continual war) alive in the minds of the masses. And now, look how easy it is for say CNN, or FOX or any "news' organization for that matter to either remove their past articles from the web when they don't align with their current agenda, or simply edit their web pages, in order to keep the current narrative running smoothly. We see political groups today tearing down, or re-melting statues of historic figures, and turning them into statues of today's progressive activists who encourage shaming anyone who has ancestors who fought for the confederacy, and who wish to remember them. That's Cancel Culture as well. We've also seen flags of different sorts being banned, books being burned, etc. Part of the reason the Bible has been translated so many ways imo, is often due to people/church heads wanting to change the narrative to suit their current agendas, rather than paying homage to the original scripts, what was meant or what may have actually happened in the past. "New Age" preachers seem hell bent on changing the original narrative to suit their own agendas, which I find many of them to just be trying to exalt themselves, making a run at history, hoping to become saints, or prophets in the eyes of others. We see online bloggers who, through use of propaganda, are capable of convincing millions of others that Captain James T. Kirk of the Star Ship Enterprise, was gay! That's a form of Cancel Culture, as anyone who was versed in the show knows good and well he liked the ladies. We see influential TV hosts and media stars, refusing to call the game of "corn-hole" by it's name, instead calling it "bean-bag toss", simply because they don't like the way it sounds; too much association to "rednecks". They don't care that the term "rednecks" came about because the people who had them happened to be white, and they also happened to work hard labor out in the field all day, getting sunburned on the back of their necks. Now the masses see the term is synonymous with racism, bigotry, misogyny. They also don't care that the game got it's name because, instead of beans, they put corn inside of bags, then tossed them into a hole- hence the Corn-hole game was created. But now, it's "beanbag toss" to the progressives who wish not to recognize truths, only their desires to reshape our current society. Were you aware that the original "Jake" from State Farm was a white guy, you know the one who was wearing the "Khakis" in the commercial which is now many years old? Well, I can't prove it at the moment, because who in the world ever saves recording of insurance commercials, but my wife and I both remember when the commercial first aired years ago, "Jake" was white. Well, they simply stopped showing the commercial for a few years, and when they re-aired it, Jake is now black and their new spokesperson. Then you have Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street who suddenly became gay, somewhere around the 90's I believe. I could probably keep finding examples of this type of Cancel Culture, especially once you get into all the people who are posting the "Mandela Effect" videos. Have you heard of this phenomenon? I think they even made a movie about it.
@@Rick-the-Swift oooh!😲😲😲 Interesting🤔... Although cancel culture has always been there, it just didn't have a name of its self or at the very least not as a term known by many from which to refer it to as it is today. I truly didn't even know its meaning, what it was or wasn't, but your reply helped me have a more accurate and broad understanding of it, so thank you Swift.👍
@@Chibby-Chubby You're very welcome Sir Abaddon! And thank you for replying, and letting me know that my own research and insight has been helpful on this relatively new "buzz" term. Another comparison I would make is the term "Propaganda", which is very much related to, and in my mind, even very much at the heart of Cancel Culture. The most difficult thing for people, I think, to realize is that even though many people understand that Propaganda has been around for centuries, even millennia, that the term itself was only coined about a hundred or so years ago, perhaps ironically, from Sigmund Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays, when he wrote the book titled, "Propaganda". Whether or not he is the sole author of the term, it's likely impossible to tell, but never the less it becomes apparent through research that the term itself is relatively new in our vocabulary, and really only in the past 50 years or so have the common folk really acknowledged it's presence in our modern culture. Another aspect which makes it so confusing, imo, is how exactly do we define what Propaganda is. I'm not convinced that even Bernays understood it's full potential, or was able to explain it in a nutshell, as it's such a complex art form. Part of the genius and elusiveness of Propaganda lies in the fact that one truth can be covered up by another truth. It's admittingly rather hard for me to explain, or give specific examples, which is why I imagine E. Bernays wrote an entire book on the subject, but please feel free to enquire if you remain interested in understanding the subject as I am. Sometimes it becomes easier for me to understand when just trying to explain it myself, although doubt I could ever fully understand the art in it's entirety.
@@Rick-the-Swift That is another one. Propaganda wasn't a concept I understood with clarity until I saw Attack on Titan. Part of this anime's premise deeply explores, analyzes, and explains how propaganda has and continues to shape the world today. Propaganda is more like a one-way ticket for many, in form of beliefs that others put into us. This includes what is, what is not, who is, who is not when to, when not to etc. They are often difficult to disprove or prove due to the lack of first-hand information or simply because they are difficult to, or outright forbidden to prove the contrary by those who provide them. As far as we all know, everything we see, heard, read, and are told by others including on TV, news, or in history might all be made up. Just something found, passed on, and modified to suit others' agenda. How hard is it to disprove? even one who is aware of "propaganda" might still fall victim to it because they don't have other routes to look for, or simply not enough information is available to the public. At the very least, not the original story, free from human alterations.
@@Rick-the-Swift Also Swift, don't worry about being concerned about maybe not explaining it clear enough because your explanations and examples are clear enough to me. Glad we share a similar point of view on this matter and the need for wanting to know. I am glad you provided deeper insight on the matter with clear and solid examples. It was so annoying not knowing.👏👏👏👏
If shaming a rapist is what cancell culture is, then it's justified. If it's taking obscure trivial statements or other speach, then it's obnoxious and toxic. Like many words and catchy phrases, I'm sure some people are taking advantage of the infamous status it has to gain pity and act a victim, when in fact they are the aggressor.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. This is different. Cancel culture is basically judging someone when we have no business judging anyone. I'm just as flawed as anyone else, so what right do I have to judge?
Nothing more than silencing people that have different views. We are supposed to have free speech but that is far from truth these days . Each person has the right to like something or find it disgusting. Plain and simple, If don't like what someone's views are on something , I just disagree with their view and move on because I am certain they disagree with my views as well , I don't try to force them out because of difference. So if you don't like vanilla ice cream and post something about it doesn't mean you should be banished from society because the next person loves vanilla. Same goes for every single situation in life . You may approve of something and the next person doesn't, who is to say which one is in the right or the wrong . Grow some skin and move on .

Someone mentioned cancel culture to me and I'd never heard it before...so I looked it up on here. So let me get the gist of it: "It's bad"; because when someone makes an a$$ of themselves, and others decide they don't want to associate with them, those people who "cancelled" their connections are acting even worse than the original a$$, because people should be accepting of a$$holes in their lives?? Isn't that....like, normal? *** I'm honestly not trying to troll here... I don't get it. Like, how did this, of all things, turn political?
This goes beyond bullying. These are people human rights, civil rights and employee rights being violated. It’s also a conspiracy against rights. It can lead to medical neglect and false imprisonments(kidnapping). Gaslighting is also a common psychological tactic used by these psychopaths. It’s form of psychological torture. The gaslighters not admitting is what it is. Gaslighting. It’s a psychological tactic. People who support this are psychopaths who lack empathy. They deny the reality of the person being tortured. Constantly harassing someone and annoying someone is psychological torture. We need to make psychological torture a crime(mental assault) just as serious as physical assault. These people deserve zero mercy. They think they can get away with it due anonymity. They are delusional psychopaths. They obsess over the people they stalk. It’s scary. The same people doing the gang stalking are the same people doing cancel culture. It’s an organized crime. It’s illegal under the organized crime act. It’s also illegal under RICO
No too long before these "fragile" ppl, who cancel so many friends and family that they'll be sending Christmas cards to themselves, the only greeting they'll get. They always turn in each other in the end, having no one left to cancel but themselves.

If you can get cancelled easily, social media isn’t really social, it’s more like a professional place to share stuff.
True😂
@Railqun since when is it that you didn't learn you can post literally everything on the internet, and be safe because of an anonymous identity, you can hide your actions into a machine, but then again, you'll regret being that way, and change, that's all they gotta do in order to fit into society. And also, where's my change in cents?
Don't you know people change you dumbass? If someone is making a racist joke a decade ago, should it fuck up there lives now? Unless they posted a video of them hanging a black man, I personally think you should cancel people for that.
@Railqun now that some bullshit. Were you the same person 10 years ago?
These cancellers better stay squeaky clean their whole lives! Their lessons are waiting for them!
Naah it's just ignorance. They are the ignorant people they accuse others of being
Jesse Leeward it’s becoming more ignorant but it’s not ALL ignorant. Weinstein obviously deserved what he got
@@brookkassa8479 Ok, the what about Oprah? She introduced women to him. Should she be cancelled for enabling him? No way she didn't know what was going on.
@@joelcoley2606 that's probably why oprah wasn't mentioned, discourse isnt needed. that person obviously did a lot of fked up stuff to a lot of people, should they not get held accountable ESPECIALLY if proven guilty?
Garage doors, chess, music theory, algebra, magic cards, professors, actors, pillows, pizza, personal finances. It's also racist to want to keep an African-American on a syrup bottle, but not racist to remove her.
I agree with cancel culture with criminal and unethical actions, but people seriously cancelling over opinions or minor demerits. Crazy
Welcome to 2020. We have Beer Flu, Race Wars, and Snowflakes galore.
Opinions is true but people have a right to not want to support you anymore over your opinion 🤷🏾♀️
The big problem is that the woke mob think anything they don't like is "unethical"
Social media is alot of the problem of whats going on today.
Who's here after carryminati video?
I've been hearing about this and had to Google what it is. So right now, during a pandemic and a nut case in the White House, our economy in a shambles, people facing evictions and record unemployment, we suddenly care about who's watching, following or liking someone? Give me a break!
How's the retribution of Putin going for putting a price on American soldiers heads? How about we care about that?!
I wish more people knew about Postmodernism and intersectionality, and their roles in influencing the radical left
Tell me about it
@Will Morgan you have to do your own research as there’s too much ground for me to cover in a UA-cam comment section.
Can you imagine being "cancelled" for a remark made in jest 10-15 years ago? Gimme a break. Let the witch hunt begin
And talking face-to-face.
Fahrenheit 451 comes to mind for me.
don't be afraid of what you see and hear or read .which mind is coming from ?? analyse the origins has it been formatted by righteous or virtuous society or by corrupt society .??? they will reproduce the same where ever they are . now what should be done ???consider your own culture defined by its values and the habits and life style and the principles used by your own culture .now you are facing a clash between 2 very different and opposed cultures .what is the value reliability and basis of a culture where no foundations has have been adopted except repression fear and free expression of the lowest feelings issued from the primitive kingdom of evolution .you know what I mean
so you understand those kind of people need rather assistance from us in order to develop and progress up to our level of evolution and democratic attainment meanwhile the goal may be reached or not .depending on several conditions .right now this civilisation is a he'll for the West and its people and is also a paradise for the East and Africa people in general (this is why do many others want to come in Europe and North America ) so don't trust what you hear and see it .is just like fake values or no basis no reality no reliability no logic coherence or mathematical principles minds have not yet grown up .it will come much latter .meanwhile you are expected to grow yourself to understand this phenomena or you will endure the consequences .what is detrimental to you is the time you spend on internet instead of thinking of knowing your own self how your own mind is functioning .this a time of great upheaval .civilisation is in decline but not condemned
several options are here but everyone must become responsible we must work for it .freedom is possible only with law and order and justice this avoiding corruption of its people .to live together we must trust each other .this trust must be real based on real and proven understanding otherwise it is fake and fake no matter the false authority and affirmation with which it is expressed...
This is why I keep my digital footprint to a bare minimum to the point where I don't think I even exist...
This is why I say fuck it, why should I care what other people say. The sad reality is society is full of nothing but multi-standards and unreasonable expectations.
its like burning books
@Railqun says the racist
It is a joke that in the modern world that you can be shamed for being honest, for agreeing to facts and not agreeing with lies.
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” ― George Orwell, 1984
So essentially, people can't have their own thoughts and opinions. Everybody has to fall in line.

Someone mentioned cancel culture to me and I'd never heard it before...so I looked it up on here. So let me get the gist of it:
"It's bad"; because when someone makes an a$$ of themselves, and others decide they don't want to associate with them, those people who "cancelled" their connections are acting even worse than the original a$$, because people should be accepting of a$$holes in their lives??
Isn't that....like, normal?
