So interesting tidbits about Jin in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The Jin you get in the beginning of the game as a party member and the Jin in Morytha are considered different party members in the game's code, literally just so they can be different levels for when they join. every time i watch a xenoblade video, i'm just like "damn, I really want to replay this whole series again" but yeah i also find it so interesting looking at what you can do with temporary characters too, it's fascinating to see how much effort was put into them or just anything that's temporary in general
Or that in xenoblade 1, if you have no talent art charged and you are "depressed" because of the missing attacks, when alvis encourage you, Shulk's Talent art will fill so you can use Purge
Fun Fact: Dickson use the Same Fighting Idle Animation like Monado Dunban (that's the Reason why Dickson has Animations for Jumping, falling and Swimming) Mumkhar and Alvis has no Animations and with the help of some glitches in DE you can actually get the Fighting Arts from the Guest Characters to your normal Party Members, but they are very weak actually 😅
Interesting, it makes sense that they have similar animations now that you say it but I never noticed it before. And yeah for this video I noticed firsthand how weak most of their arts are.
That one fight with Alvis in XC1 makes me desperately wish he was a full party member, even if he only joined you from Alcamoth to either Sword Valley or Mechonis Core. Would've been really cool to see how he would fight. Thankfully in Future Redeemed, A kinda gives a window into what a playable Alvis might've looked like.
I wish they could at least make them playable in NG+ like making them permanent members when requirements are fulfilled like making all the traitors and others who eventually dies not leaving your team after betraying you or dying in the story plot just making them not appearing in cutscenes anymore like I would like to use Malos and Jin against themselves when rescuing Pyra and Mythra but nothing changes in the cutscenes, and allowing Malos and Vandam using other blades than their default ones and also at least make Na’el playable in future redeemed dlc and make other heroes in Xbc3 playable as well, and I also wish that Consul M and Consul N skins would at least gives some of their abilities for Mio and Noah once equipped with their armours and make them fight like the consuls
I really like Vandham as a character and I had Tora Benched for the entire time he (Vandham) was available but he was controlled by the ai. But it was sad to see him die even though I knew it was coming because I accidentally watched a video with his death cut scene before I even got the game.

I can't remember for sure on Wii since the last time I played it was... A long time ago (when the world was an endless sea), but I'm pretty sure on the 3DS version it was possible to play as Dickson after the Ether mines and as Alvis. Also, couldn't you use Dickson's arts in the tutorial battle at the battle of Sword Valley? Just wondering since you didn't show it
I never got to try it on the 3ds sadly, I can only confirm it's impossible on the wii and switch. And yes, on NG+ you can also use Dicksons arts in the beginning. They're the exact same as in the Unfinished battle though, that's why I didn't show them
All the people saying they played alvis or dickson probably experiencing the mandela effect, you cannot put them in the lead, period. There’s no glitch that does it either, what they probably do remember is that you can still start a chain attack with those characters or warn them of a vision, both of which let you take a look at their arts and use one of them yourself.
3:35 Yes. Also, the Prologue Dunban-Monado is kind of cool in itself because it has pretty high defences AND can damage Face Mechon. The later Dunban-Monado in Colony 9 sadly loses all of its special traits besides being able to damage Face Mechon. Also er, Mumkhar's claws have a description despite it being impossible to open his menu. 3:50 Ok, I am washed. Is this only a thing in DE or was the Wiki wrong again? I don't have much experience in NG+ myself and the wiki specifically states that these assets(Unique art icon, art descriptions and voicelines) are unused by virtue of there *not* being any chain attacking in this fight. 4:55 "Thunder Bolt" is the japanese name of the art, they just did an oopsie(Not the first time, several quotes are just wrong or set incorrectly). It btw never made sense to me that the other art is called "heal bolt", but it is a water ether-art. And that's not like a localization error or anything, it is also called heal bolt in japanese. 13:10 Well, there is kind of a thing. Malos is locked out of Chain attacks like Jin for some reason, despite having blade specials. He is not locked out of blade combos tho, if you edit him into your party after he leaves he gives you the opportunity to command him to use a special just as usual. Oh and...his Blade is actually unique, it is not the same dude you can pull as NG+. They didn't even try to hide it, you can equip your own version in chapter 1 no problem. His weapontype is also destinct for no reason. 15:35 Also known as the only class that has a weapontype in 3 that actually uses the ether auto attack-type. Yeah, everyone else is for some reason physical on auto attacks. FR iirc makes more sense for this and properly used that damage type.(not that it matters too much because auto attacks are kinda filler-damage, but it is just a note to be made)
Thanks for the extra info, was interesting to read! About Mumkhar in NG+, the art icon and descriptions can be seen obviously, but in terms of voicelines he actually doesn't say anything in chain attacks besides his art names. Normally characters have quotes for passing their turn on or for ending the chain attack (stuff like 'Dunban you're up' 'Here I come') but Mumkhar is completely silent during a chain aside from yelling out his arts.
Yes, every character keeps the last outfit they wore in your savefile. For Mumkhar it's his Mechon armor, which means homs Mumkhar will never appear in NG+.
Ok so here's the things, idk if it was a glitch or what, but there was one time when I was 10 or 11 years old playing Xenoblade 1 on my Wii where I was actually able to play as Alvis in the Telethia fight. I paid no mind to it because I thought that was normal until I realized upon replaying it over and over that I couldn't play as Alvis anymore. I just remember he had those two red arts and his Talent Art. He wasn't very good, but I wonder why I was able to play as him the one time
It seems you're not alone, I got 5 other comments of people claiming they played as Alvis or Dickson. Maybe there is some kind of glitch like you said. It's interesting that you say he had a talent art too.
4:56 I always thought it was Dunban saying this line !!!! And that it was a like he said only in the first battle when he had Monado!!! (Since I play Xenoblade in french with English VA, i'm less attentive to what the characters are saying during battle and is less attentive about the arts name (that are translated in french))
I think temporary party members are done to make the game less formulaic, but then they're also separated from "real" party members really clearly, and all the regular party members are still railroaded along the main story often times so it's not really done well imo. I'd have loved a temporary party member that feels just like a regular one but betrays you all the same. Imagine if zeke betrayed you in tantal, something like that
Exactly! Fiora and Vandham didn't feel too different from the other party members, but that's it. Xenoblade X somewhat has a party member that betrays you, though the story made it too obvious.
Technically you could say Consul N joins you for like half a fight at the end of Chapter 5, if I dont' misremember the timing with which the body swap happens. Of course you're not gonna know it while playing and nothing changes from Mio, but still
The reason Na'el can't be played is probably because she reuses the Hero role from the base game, and it's probably hard or impossible to change the code of the game to allow control of her. Or would take too much time just for 1 boss and post game that the devs didn't wanna, lol.
I would have been fine with that if she wasn't playable in the N flashback, I don't think it would have been hard to program her in as a seventh party member.
Some other people claim the same thing, but as you cna see in the video it's impossible in the remake. I've tried it in the original Wii version recently and it's also impossible there, I haven't tried in on 3ds though since I don't have that game.
The reason that Alvis sucks in the fight against the Telethia is because it is meant to be a tutorial for the newly unlocked Monado Purge, which is why when Alvis encourages Shulk in the fight, Shulk gains 100% of his talent art gauge refilled.
If Alvis was better during that fight the tutorial wouldn't have been any worse, it would have just made it more playable if your Shulk won't get attacked by everything.
@uxnium Hey, just tested it out myself in the Wii version and couldn't play as him sadly. I did say other people say the same thing as you though, do you remember doing anything special? Did you play the 3ds version by chance? I haven't tried that version.
@@MaxMonado finally found this. I think it was just a chain attack where I just used Alvises arts and got it wrong like that. Playing as Dickson is possible where you reunite with him and Dunban (I think, don't take my word for it tho.)

Could you technically count team adam and team hugo as temporary party members in Torna, considering they aren‘t there for the very last fight of the game?
Technically yes, but I wouldn't say having them for 90% of the game is 'temporary'. They don't have the same limitations as any other character in this video.
On the 3ds I was able to play as Dickson I'm a positive that I did I even thought he was a party member at first, please if you have played as Dickson on the 3ds please leave a comment saying if you have

Jin is just broken because the Power of Love. And Mumkhar, Vandham, Mwamba, and Panacea were... there. And I haven't played X so I skipped that segment to avoid spoilers.
it’s really weird how mwamba is at level 89 when starting ng+?? is that because he got revived in chapter 6? even though he never joins the party and we only fight against him, if someone knows why then please let me know
@@MaxMonado ah, well i actually leveled down the main party to level 1 cuz i wanted to 100% the game on hard from level 1 but he was still level 89. im guessing mwamba was still at the level i was before leveling down
I hate Na'el as a party member for the sole reason, that she makes your chain attacks unreliable and thus a lot worse. If you could at least turn her off it would be fine...
Weirdly enough, there are signs in the cut contents of the game that implied he could have come back in chapter 6, especially since you see him alive again and you can even get Ethel back if you do Cammuravi’s ascension quest (which I didn’t know until I did NG+ because I didn’t do that ascension quest). Weird that he wasn’t given that too but some things have to get cut.
@@sollato0293I guess at least it is not super obvious that something was cut. (Unlike Nimue's whole thing. A few years ago I was so ambitious to level Malos to Level 99.
And what can I say: I did it. After nine months of playing for one hour.
every time i watch a xenoblade video, i'm just like "damn, I really want to replay this whole series again"
but yeah i also find it so interesting looking at what you can do with temporary characters too, it's fascinating to see how much effort was put into them or just anything that's temporary in general
The fact Dicksons healing attack shoots someone is ironic 💀
I never thought of it like that 💀
I'm surprised you didn't talk about Jin's Arts being different in the Challenge Battles.
I could have but the Jin segment was long enough as is, but yes, he has unique arts there and heavenly disrupt inflicts break as well now.
Or that in xenoblade 1, if you have no talent art charged and you are "depressed" because of the missing attacks, when alvis encourage you, Shulk's Talent art will fill so you can use Purge
Great video, I’ve always been amazed by the detail in these characters. Also, good job on making it spoiler free!
Thanks Gigi!
It really isn't spoiler free, I mean the 7th party member in XC1 is talked about
As a long time Xenoblade fan, I love the effort in this
Thank you, nice to hear it!
I didn't develop a single shred of emotion for Vandam in 2. I laughed throughout his death scene
Man I agree with you, what they did to malos os absolutely criminal
Fun Fact: Dickson use the Same Fighting Idle Animation like Monado Dunban (that's the Reason why Dickson has Animations for Jumping, falling and Swimming) Mumkhar and Alvis has no Animations
and with the help of some glitches in DE you can actually get the Fighting Arts from the Guest Characters to your normal Party Members, but they are very weak actually 😅
Interesting, it makes sense that they have similar animations now that you say it but I never noticed it before.
And yeah for this video I noticed firsthand how weak most of their arts are.
@@MaxMonado and Mumkhar, Dickson and Alvis has unused Voicelines for getting defeated, that's actually impossible ingame 😉
RIP Mwamba
Not being able to use N in the final battle is a shame. Such a huge missed opportunity :( I was so exited when he jumped in but nope...
Definitely a shame, for a moment I thought both N and Na'el would become hero characters. Was dissappointed when it was only Na'el
I love temporary party members. They’re some of my favorite party members in rpgs
It's Mwambin' time!
Guess we'll see if they get a chance in your Xenoblade Warriors/ Heroes
That one fight with Alvis in XC1 makes me desperately wish he was a full party member, even if he only joined you from Alcamoth to either Sword Valley or Mechonis Core. Would've been really cool to see how he would fight. Thankfully in Future Redeemed, A kinda gives a window into what a playable Alvis might've looked like.
Same, it would have been great if he fought with you even one more time.
Good idea the Xenoblade chronicles warriors.
I really like Vandham as a character and I had Tora Benched for the entire time he (Vandham) was available but he was controlled by the ai. But it was sad to see him die even though I knew it was coming because I accidentally watched a video with his death cut scene before I even got the game.
I'm happy there are more Vandham fans out there at least.
@@MaxMonado Xenoblade 2 was my first Xenoblade game I started playing because I main Pyra/Mythra in smash ultimate but I did not remember Vandham’s name when going into the game I just new he was going to die when I saw him. But I’m still enjoying Xenoblade 2 and I’m currently in the Chapter after after the one Vandham is in ( I don’t remember the number of the chapters they are.
That would make the most sense, the fact that I got around 10 people claiming it really made me think there was a glitch or something.
@@MaxMonado The art voice lines are still notable because chain attacks set the respective character as "player controlled".
@@MaxMonado
Also about Mumkhar, I noticed he had his mechon body in that clip of him using his arts.
Ik it’s NG+ but that’s strange
Yes, every character keeps the last outfit they wore in your savefile. For Mumkhar it's his Mechon armor, which means homs Mumkhar will never appear in NG+.
yes jin, falling down a pit is "very funny"
Couldn't have said it better myself
Jin in Chapter 1 and Jin in Morytha are also different party members. (Like Fiora)
Would be AMAZING if this coming nintendo direct reveales Xenoblade Warriors
I would actually lose my mind
@@MaxMonado If they do, I will become monke
13:03 69 damage noice.
Surprised you noticed a number that small lol
Alvis, despite being a literal god, SUCKS AT BATTLING
I completely forgot about Mwamba's existence and had also suppressed the fact that he was part of the group.
That's fair Xenoblade 3 is a long game and Mwamba is there for a short part
It’s so funny how many death flags he had floating around him, they were really unsubtle about it
I will say on a repeat playthough I realized how obvious it was that fiora would not be permanent, given all 4 of her arts use the same animation
It's interesting that you say he had a talent art too.
excellent video!!!!!! xenoblade is the GOAT
Couldn't agree more!
One day we'll get to play as The Archsage
13:20 ...You sure about that, Vandham? I can think of a couple others...
If only he could have met all the other Vandhams...
Vangarre(Also called Vandam in japanese):"Am I a joke to you?"
@@lpfan4491 X Vandham: Yes, you are a joke that happens to use the name Vandham
Of course you're not gonna know it while playing and nothing changes from Mio, but still
Oh you mean how Consul M tales over Mio's body? Yes I guess that could technically count.
@@MaxMonado Yeah, wrong letter lmao
Yeah, we just never actually fight M outside of the challenge battle.
Long time no see Max ! Nice to see you again !
Happy to hear it, thanks for the support!
@@MaxMonado You're welcome !
Vandham having a ng+ skill tree means i fought the gormotr ardun soooo many times
Yeah... thanks Monolith
@@MaxMonado they gave him iirc almost all raw stat boosters so for the most part(aside from like 3 unqiue ish skills) you miss out on nothing lol
Juju joins the party as a guest in the first part of Satoral Marsh. And you forgot to put him in the video! Unforgivable.
He's not a party member because he doesn't fight with you, Juju is worthless
Why na ' el keep getting me game over on hard and up
I feel like I remember being able to play has alvis
At least Alvis got their time to shine in FR. Made me so happy
The final character is even worse, as the way the alter chain attacks means your incentivized to skip getting them entirely for the secret boss.
Yeah, that's why I have a seperate savefile from before I beat the final boss
I really wanted na,el to be playble
Really is a shame you can only play as her once and then never again
I was so sad after beating FR and seeing that she wasn't.
Wait... I remember when I played on my wii that you could play as alvis. I hope it just changed when they made the de
Someone else said it's possible to play as Dickson and Alvis in the original Xenoblade, I'll try it out soon.
Playing as Dickson is possible where you reunite with him and Dunban (I think, don't take my word for it tho.)
thanks for xenoblade x spoiler
No problem that's why I give spoiler warnings
Don’t care what everyone say
Mamba deserves better. Like you can’t put him in the beginning of the game and get his bone snap.
Really mad in later side quest he have no line
Mwamba really deserved better.
Could you technically count team adam and team hugo as temporary party members in Torna, considering they aren‘t there for the very last fight of the game?
Technically yes, but I wouldn't say having them for 90% of the game is 'temporary'. They don't have the same limitations as any other character in this video.
On the 3ds I was able to play as Dickson I'm a positive that I did I even thought he was a party member at first, please if you have played as Dickson on the 3ds please leave a comment saying if you have
Some other comments claim they played as Dickson too. I have now tried to play as him on the Wii version and it's also impossible there, maybe it is only possible on the 3ds for some reason.
It's crazy how many godlike beings are in this list...
Yeah I can't believe Max Monado talked about Mwamba for 20 minutes
Alvis and Malos are members of the Trinity Processor; N and Na'el have access to Trinity Cores (at specific points). Dickson is a member of Zanza's Trinity. Fiora was briefly Meyneth. Jin is just broken because the Power of Love. And Mumkhar, Vandham, Mwamba, and Panacea were... there.
And I haven't played X so I skipped that segment to avoid spoilers.
MWAMBA!
it’s really weird how mwamba is at level 89 when starting ng+?? is that because he got revived in chapter 6? even though he never joins the party and we only fight against him, if someone knows why then please let me know
I believe he's just at the same level as your other party members, unlike in Xenoblade 1 where everyone's level is tracked separately.
@@MaxMonado ah, well i actually leveled down the main party to level 1 cuz i wanted to 100% the game on hard from level 1 but he was still level 89. im guessing mwamba was still at the level i was before leveling down

i’m pretty sure mwamba has the level your highest level hero does

Nael should've been temporary.
I mean she pretty much is, just spread out over the main story and the postgame
I hate Na'el as a party member for the sole reason, that she makes your chain attacks unreliable and thus a lot worse. If you could at least turn her off it would be fine...
Yeah I also prefer playing without her, that's why I have a seperate save from before I beat the final boss.
I need a Xenoblade warriors
Mwamba should have been playable just because
Very true Mwamba
Weirdly enough, there are signs in the cut contents of the game that implied he could have come back in chapter 6, especially since you see him alive again and you can even get Ethel back if you do Cammuravi’s ascension quest (which I didn’t know until I did NG+ because I didn’t do that ascension quest). Weird that he wasn’t given that too but some things have to get cut.
@@sollato0293I guess at least it is not super obvious that something was cut.
(Unlike Nimue's whole thing. Unless I missed something, you just go to Lost Colony once to do Taion's sidequest, have it never register as a partnered faction, then speak to like 3 people, do 4 discussions and duck off forever. That entire place reeks of discarded in development. Not to mention the leftover data for Hero Nimue too.)
Interesting fact you could play as both Dickson and Alvis on the Wii version of xenoblade chronicles. They both were awful having only two arts and I believe their talent arts also being extremely underwhelming.
That does sound interesting, I might try that out soon.
@@MaxMonado from what I remember Dickson is only playable for that one fight where he comes in with Dunban to save Shulk and co. While Alvis is playable when Shulk learns Monado purge.
Just tested this and couldn't play as them in the Wii version. Can't play as Dickson in the unfinished battle and can't play as Alvis in the Purge tutorial. I've seen some more people say the same thing as you though, did you play the 3ds version or on an emulator instead by chance?
@@MaxMonado I believe I was using an emulator for the Wii version of the game.
Thats weird though because I definitely remember playing as them and really being really annoyed at how useless they felt.
nice video, but wouldn't ethel also count?
You can get her back towards the end of the story (I think chapter 6 onwards)
I considered mentioning her but like someone else said, you can get her back. In a way she's a temporary party member but unlike all the other ones I talked about you can permanently get Ethel back (without any strings attached)
Honestly, I wish her older form was temporary and she would just rejoin as a first termer with weaker stats and skillversions. It would have made more sense than what they went with instead imo.
Please xenoblade warriors for tomorrow
Next direct for sure.
