I'm the first commenter and 1st viewer as when I clicked on the video, it had no views, don't know why a Comeng would be used for that as: 1. Comeng trains do not have CBTC signalling. 2. Comeng trains can only run as 3 or 6 cars, and HCMT's are 7 cars long, so platform measurement would not make sence, but I'm a Comeng fan, sadely I am forced to take X'trapolis trains because I'm on the Lilydale line so yeah, and the X'traps are the worst because they bounce like mad, excited to see my favourite train type on Metro do a test run in the tunnel, sadely it's not an EDI but that's fine.
A Comeng will tow IEV120 through the tunnel when overhead line measurements are required, as the diesel locos that normally do it won't be allowed into the tunnel (unlike the city loop). They had to check that a Comeng will actually fit through the tunnel, and I assume to same will happen with IEV120 in tow soon too.
Amazing video! And got job getting these possibly once in a lifetime shots. I can only imagine what the driver and staff onboard might have been thinking.
Awesome video Mate I never knew that Comeng train can run on metro tunnel first time normally you see HCMT trains going to metro tunnel but not Comeng train 😊👍
Just putting my thinking cap on: This event would have gleaned important knowledge should a non HCMT train ever manage to end up entering for what ever reason.
if it's for platform measurement, why send a normal train car? Usually they set up a rig with spikes that protrude the exact right amount (or nowadays an array of lasers that can measure distance to any obstacles) and mount that to an out-of-service car, but I saw nothing like that on this train
To confirm clearances to PSDs before towing EV120 with a Comeng. I don't know the reason why they can't tow EV120 with a HCMT though, coupler compatability would be part of it I imagine.
Metro Rail Tunnel SUCKS!!!!!!, It's been a huge budget BLOWOUT!!!!!!, the money spent on it could have been spent on more important things, such as emergency housing, fixing the states roads, health and education. The tunnel is an absolute waste of money and so many other and more important things have gone the way side because of the Metro Rail Tunnel. They've been doing testing with trains through the tunnel, but they haven't done drills in the case of a terrorist attack, the Metro Rail Tunnel could become a prime target for a terrorist attack, the tunnel is NOT safe, I don't feel safe traveling through the existing loop, because of attacks.
Stop shitting on the metro tunnel The Metro tunnel discourages car usage it will encourage A mode shift to trains which reduces pollution because of less car usage if you say this is a waste of money look at the north east link and the Westgate tunnel project‘s those encourage car usage and both of those projects have had huge blow outs I don’t understand why you’re not talking about those northeast link has blown out from $16billion - $26billion which contributes way more to victoria’s debt than the metro tunnel will. New road tunnels means more pollution yes it has blown out but for god sake of course they’re gonna do the drills they did it with the Sydney Metro there’s no reason for them not to do it here the city loop is very safe I myself I’ve never had a problem with it oh and all road tunnels are just as vulnerable to terrorist attacks as metro tunnel your comment does not stack up at all your nothing more than a wuss/hypocrite @sandrafowler6717
Time traveller: moves rock
The timeline:
The main motor contactors are getting a massive workout on the ramp to the tunnel! :)
Very interesting! I never thought that a Comeng would run into the tunnel. Now time for an EDI, xtrapolis and Siemens (and maybe x’trapolis 2.0)
That won't happen as they won't run in service, this is only for testing
Ik that, I meant for any reason at all, whether is for testing, in service, accidental, just anything.
Nah, Steamrail
@@paulstubbs7678 I hope steamrail takes the tait in there. Or wait a sec… 🔥🔥🔥🪵🪵🪵
@@paulstubbs7678 I would love the tait to enter the tunnel! 🔥🪵
One minute ago? I’ve never been this early to a straya trains video.
Hey I thought I commented first now you did, I typed the commment before I saw you coment. But I came when it was oner minute ago too.
You have made history!

Under occupation is why this move could be done

Catch was tested on the Merida line with nonHCMT stock
Try CBTC not carch
once in a lifetime moment be like. nice catch. whether it will happen again depends on the future. only time will tell
Thanks
Good stuff. Your voice is very soothing btw 😂 you should narrate some essays about rail history to fall asleep to!
Thanks so much! Maybe one day lol

Thanks. Yea I'm sure it was an odd feeling for the driver
Nice train video!😁
I commented first since mine was long.
@@thenetheriteminecartzactnm no one cares bro
This vid will go down in history just like the photos of a Tate in the city loop, not that the circumstances are remotely related.
Melbourne's railways have changed forever!
Indeed :)
Now for a V/Locity set and an N Class loco hauled V/Line haha
Steam engine
Yes they should do the airport rail link.
I love that video

The Victorian standard unit of measurement: a comeng...
Lol
Omg I was at south yarra I knew comeng will enter metro tunnel but I can’t hear it was same day i in there
Just putting my thinking cap on: This event would have gleaned important knowledge should a non HCMT train ever manage to end up entering for what ever reason.
humanity was never meant to see this
Hahahaha
G'day Straya!
Hello!
How do u find out about all this cool stuff
Magic
He's just having a look
What is up with the sparking? E.g. 4:08?
Contactors opening, he's going so slow so he has to keep nudging the retracting the throttle, minimum is too much
I would assume that the Comeng could also not use the platform screen doors?
Wouldn't have

The plan is to use a Comeng set to tow IEV120 through the tunnel for overhead line inspections, as diesel locos won't be allowed into the tunnel.
As I said on X: The Munnel has been violated.
how do you know this? are you friends with metro?
he said it was a secret lol

Why must a Comeng measure the platforms?
Comeng sets will be used to tow IEV120 through the tunnel when required, so they have to verify that a Comeng actually fits.
@@billyp4850 Oh ok, thanks mate!

@ ok
@@SuperSimmo88 HCMTs likely don't have an old school air brake system like the Comeng does, which will be required to tow IEV120.
