Well, I asked for this video just a couple of days ago in a comment to another AC video of yours! Of course you must have been working on it for way longer than two days, but still I thank you as if it were a direct answer to my personal request. I'm egotistic like that. (LOL!) Thanks for your videos, and for this series in particular! p.s. I liked this game a lot, having played it in its original version but when the vast majority of bugs and problems was already fixed. I always liked both: - the extended prologue, that to me is a strong point of this chapter among the series' story telling used methods (vs other chapters, I mean), - and Connor as a main protagonist, as I think he is indeed the perfect central piece of the puzzle for holding the whole thing together (he cannot be some lighthearted kind of character, in a story that is not a joke anywhere and in any way).
Oh my god I read your comment and remembered I actually have it in my closet, beaked hood and all! It was huge on me when I bought it, wonder if it would fit me now...
It’s actually what got me Into AC As a Nigerian with no connection to American history, the characters story and plot were so well woven that till this day it remains my favorite AC game. It also got me into US history Lol 😅 Now AC is my favorite not just game franchise but franchise period Even tho Odyssey was... questionable
I will say AC3 more than any other AC game, made me feel like I could charge in and take on a whole army with my tomahawk and my knife. Connor was a beast
Except when we had an actual mission take place during a huge battle and all we did was sneak around to kill one Templar. That disappointed me as a kid
That's because none of the previous games aimed for this, the stealh was more rewarding than rushing into the enemies, and if you did, then you had to be good at the combat, otherwise you'd be in trouble. Rushing into the enemies is totally the opposite of what is an assassin, what they do, and how. "Hide in plain sight" "We work in the dark to serve the light"
@@leooc3601 you had to be good at holding R1 and hitting square at the right time. Sorry but except for AC1 no AC Game before Unity had any sort of combat difficulty. Syndicate was easy again, and the RPG Games can be hard with too many enemies but they really aim for more combat than the older ones
@@hisdudeness1835 the early games for sure didn’t have any difficulty. But play the newer ones on the hardest difficulty, it is definitely a challenge.
@@DaegosYT loved it so far best arc in my opinion but I still haven’t finished the main story. I’m glad assassins creed has deep lore involving the different native peoples tribes and civilizations I would love a Connor sequel but I don’t think the rpg style would fit a game set in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
@@KingindaNorf I agree, it's an amazing arc! The world is so beautiful and the gameplay is unique and engaging. I don't think we'll ever get a Connor sequel but it would be cool to see
Man this makes me realise how little native get portrayed in media, especially in Hollywood. Like they're mostly savages or pocahontas like- character and that's it.
I thought Connor was pretty cool, and I never before played a game about native Americans. Your culture is amazing, shame its not really a popular topic for media here in Russia
Edward was killed by two men, whom we know nothing about other than him being impaled through the chest with a sword, had his son grown as a templar, and had his best friend killed by a comrade of his son, in front of said son. Haytham watched his uncle die essentially
The moment I fell in love completely with this game is the final scene with Connor and the villain. Where they share a drink, both knowing how their rendezvous will end. The honor of it struck me in a big big way
I too like to play through an extremely mind numbingly boring game just so I can fall in love with it in the final scene Holy Satan AC fans are insufferable. You stanned the most boring franchise in gaming history then cried when it finally had one good game (odyssey) and encouraged ubi to ruin the new system with valhallah "to go back to the old way".. You didn't like AC. You just were a excited kid and had nothing else to play. You got it from your parents or you were a teen high on copious amount of weed.
Yes, because Connor is now mature enough to understand that vengance is a fool's errand. He isn't hunting Lee for vengeance anymore, he's hunting Lee because Lee is a templar and templars, even when not evil, are corrupting and poisonous to every society they interfere. Connor isn't happy or fulfilled, he isn't cruel about killing Lee, he does it because is his only option
@@vinnie19971 You can climb trees the mechanic is still there it's just that Ubisoft didn't design the Dense forested areas in Valhalla with Tree-Running in mind, which to me is a huge wasted opportunity considering the parkour still sucks, and you can only get places by longship or by horse which limits your options significantly, adding in Tree-Running would spice things up so you could get off your Longship kill a target in the woods if one is there escape by Tree-Running and jump off a cliff into the ocean at the edge of a forest and get into your longship or jump off a tree onto your horse and ride away and escape, just adding tree-running would make gameplay more fun, Unity as it stands is still the best Assassin's Creed Game in terms of gameplay mechanic and the assassin feel and no other game comes close, you could literally remake AC1 and the Ezio Trilogy with Unity's gameplay and they would be the best AC Games in terms of story and gameplay.
I remember my mind being blown when they showed you freerunning on trees. I loved AC1-3. IMO a really great flawless quasi-trilogy that set its mind and went for it. AC3 felt like the big, epic end to an era. That being said it’s absolutely a product of its time.
It was a great story line, but what I hated about that I still can't believe nobody noticed was the walking animations and running animations that Connor has he looks gimped, so I wouldn't say it was a flawless game
I love Connor’s whole story arc. Dont see the hate he gets. It’s cool to see more assassins in the americas. Would really love to see an assassins that is from the Aztec/Mayan descent. Feel like it could also work really great with the jungle and stone cities.
I tink it's partly because of his closing monologue being cut because that kinda ties everything together in a nice little bow and without it his arc feels a bit incomplete. And partly because of his voice direction. It's accurate to what a non native English speaker would sound like as I understand it but it does kinda come off as overly stiff and wooden at times especially if you don't have the for want of a better term meta knowledge that they were going for accuracy, he's a victim of the "Reality is Unrealistic" trope essentially. Last but not least Ezio is one of the best characters in all of gaming, with a cradle to grave arc spanning 3 games, that is a hell of a tought act to follow and even as good as Connor is he had basically no chance of 1 upping Ezio sadly and the comparison wound up being unfavourable.
It wasnt the plot of the story, or the arc, it was the unbelievable amount of cut scenes putting the game on hold at the worst times. You don't even actually assassinate Charles Lee at the end... he is killed by Connor during yet another cut scene... which triggers another cut scene.
Ac3 was extremely special to me, it taught me a lot and I loved every character in the game. I loved the story and Connor is one of my favorites. This game will always hold a special place in my heart
Is he playing the remaster on this video? cause I'm thinking about getting that as I wanna go back to older AC games and wanna have the full Desmond Saga game set.
I really liked Assassin's creed 3 , it wasn't a 10/10 masterpiece with no flaws whatsoever , but I understood Connor and felt his pain , when he tried to work together with Haytham I saw how badly he wanted to get through to his father and when he eventually had to kill him I felt guilt , also the ending was really sad and hit hard plus the score was masterful a native american version of Ezio's Family
i hated ac3 because it was so tedious to do everything in the game. im the type of person that cant force himself to just finish the main story and be done with it but the side content in ac3 was so bloated
AC3 is my “protect at all costs” game. I know that it’s not great and that it has a lot of problems, but it does so much cool shit that I love it anyway.
I remember playing the Homestead missions and thinking "I really wish this kind of stuff was a part of the main story." And i know the missions gameplay wise weren't all that engaging, but we saw a different side of not only Connor's personality, but his life, being the master of this Homestead and caring for the workers and Achilles. And I was surprised that the last Homestead mission was Achilles' death. I didn't expect such a major character to die in a side arc, but funny enough that made it more impactful, in a way? It made me feel like I put in effort into something that wasn't just revenge and death and was very much a sort of celebration of life, which was kind of what someone like Connor and Achilles needed. It was a lot more of a personal story in the end and the pay off of sending Achilles off with a smile on his face was satisfying.
I wrote a whole giant essay comment on why it is among my least favorite AC games but DAMN it does have it's moments. The most heartwarming moment was in the Homestead bar and the flag that the tailor made is shown off to everyone. The camera cuts to Connor with a little smile and that just might be the only shot of Connor being happy. It's a buried seen and understated, not pay much mind and you miss it, but I loved seeing Connor have a nice moment that he could enjoy and be present in. The moment can be seen in the video: Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered: Homestead Missions Compilation Cutscenes Gameplay at 47:48
The past affecting the future, the American Revolution in the eyes of a Native American. Connor is caught between several worlds and the world he loved ,and was loved by, was destroyed. That builds something in someone. That rage of losing a piece of yourself is what drives many stories and it works. Connor didn’t get 3 games in the franchise, but if he did have a second game I think people would have loved him some more. The parkour, the homestead, the combat and relationships where amazing. Desmond was a confused young character and that was exactly what I was as a kid playing these games at 6-10 years old lol. From AC1-AC3, I was in love with the story. That will never change :/
@@jayveeeee It would have been great to see Connor in a second game where he’s older like Ezio in Revelations. Seeing him quell his anger and finding purpose past that and how much that makes him grow as a person is something I would love to see. That won’t ever happen but I can imagine the man that would make someone and that’s a dark path to walk for someone like Connor maybe :/ who knows but he was great for what he stood for and represented. In any case, thank you mate for putting this game into perspective and would love your thoughts on AC1, Revelations, and AC Unity. Those games don’t get a lot of light in my eyes for some reason
I miss Desmond :( I think Ubisoft lost the ac feel when they killed him, apart from that, there was something on the original assassins creed (1) that grounded the game to real and mysterious history, something as deep and rich as the plot throughout time between assassins and templars, each time they added some mystical godlike magical theme they departed from that original feel,
I believe they could have brought him back it's a low possibility but there was a mention of a peice of Eden that could bring someone back to life, I thought they'd eventually suprise us with that and say yeah it exists but if you did bring back desmond you'd have a very tough path ahead which would lead into a world war setting in which Hitler turns out to be a Templar leader who has a very dark power you need to discover throughout the story but a new mechanic could be desmond becomes a lot more involved and you can upgrade him throughout the game (eqiup various hidden blades and lost armour)/learn new ways to be an assassin and a new 'timeslip feature' were you can go into that time period as Desmond as what you're facing now is more dangerous than you first thought. Through the game you build a new assassins guild on top of a dying one.
@@harveyshaw6393 Without Desmond Assassin's creed would never exist. The Animus uses genetic DNA from Desmond to access his ancestor's memories and past life without him the Animus wouldn't work he's the key to everything
I always hoped for a modern day Assassin's Creed game and we got a peek of how that would look like when you control Desmond and do what assassins do. When they killed Desmond, I kinda lost interest in the game as a whole and stopped playing AC Series at AC3. I recently picked up Syndicate (was free on epic) and hated it...
my first AC game was syndicate, so by playing the origins, odyssey, valhalla and everything from AC1 to AC rogue I just ended up liking AC brotherhood and AC origins the most because of the locations and main characters.
Ubisoft really messed up the Kenways though. They deserved more. I'm down for a black flag sequel that continues right on when Edward is going to England on jackdaw with Jenny and shows us his tragic ending. I want more edward.
I always found AC3 to be one of my favorites. I love the combat. The north American atmosphere. The new animations and mechanics. It was a big gaming moment for me in my youth.
Glad to see someone else loves the "parkour through the trees" from AC3, Black Flag, and Rogue. That's among my favorite things to do in the whole series.
Connor was honestly my favourite protagonist. That laser focus you describe is exactly how he should be. Unlike Ezio who still had a familiar world full of people like him after his family died, Connor was left completely alone and thrust into an alien world of people who look at him like he's less than them. This is a feeling any person of colour in the english-speaking world knows. He has to go further and be better than everyone around him to survive. And that one scene where Connor is being escorted to his execution and we can see his fellow assassins in the background clearing the way to rescue him, wow! Connor is so cool through that whole segment, even saying to the Templar enforcer "I will not die this day. The same can not be said for you!"
whats funny is the assassins goofed with trying to rescue him as its later revealed that Haytham was the one to throw tge hatchet and save Connor from the noose
I loved this game Probably best looking outfit, controls are more comfortable than in previous games, nice homestead side story, epic Desmond moments, badass Haytham
It's hands down my favorite Assassin's Creed to this day. IMO it's peak AC with the history and combat/parkour animations. There used to be so much emphasis on the way the Assassin movements were animated and implemented. It really made you feel like you were in control of an epic movie hero playing on the screen. now it's just a regular flat RPG with pretty graphics. Just compare to how Connor moves in game to how Eivor moves, it's absolutely ridiculous.
The best parkour still goes to AC2 and combat divided to the last 3. AC3 is such a special game, with so much lore and the best gameplay. The haters literally complained about the good stuff liike aiming in the original
Finally someone who understands the value of AC3. Personally, I never saw AC3 as a game about Connor, for me it was always Desmond’s story, and Haytham and Connor merely represented the conflict within Desmond, the doubts he had, the questions he developed about the creed and the constant uncertainty he faced about his journey and especially about where and how that journey would end.
Sure, but that still doesn´t excuse shit writing. Connor´s motivations make no sense, and ultimately, he fails in everything he set out to do. He swore to protect his village, but he destroys it by supporting the Patriots, even AFTER he already knows that their leader (Washington) was responsible for burning it down the first time. Like WTF is wrong with him? Not to mention that all of those betrayals do nothing to transform his character. He still remains the naive child he is when he first approaches Achilles. Maybe if we got some sort of sequel, where we could see a more mature, more nuanced Connor, they could have saved the character, similar to Arno in Dead Kings.
@@jirkazalabak1514 just because you have a static character doesn’t mean that suddenly your entire game is shit, besides like I said, the game is about Desmond and he is most certainly not a static character, not to mention Haytham who grew to be one of the best characters in the entire franchise and my personal favorite. Connor is static because he is a device, a means of showing Desmond’s personal journey and you people need to stop bitching about him it’s been a fucking decade at this point
@@YoruWasTaken Honestly, Haytham´s presence saves the game. If it was just Connor, the game would be far worse. However, we don´t get to play as Haytham long enough. Most players will spend about 90% of their playtime with Connor. What you said about him is exactly the problem. The character needs to be more than a "device". Sure, the main story is about Desmond, but there was no reason to just ditch Connor like that. In the grand scheme of things, Ezio´s only purpose was to deliver messages to Desmond, and he´s one of the greatest characters in history of fiction. Good stories are written by characters driving the plot, not the plot driving the character. Connor´s story (sadly) falls into the latter category. Not to mention that the Desmond story "conclusion" was also a massive letdown. Having played as Desmond for 5 games at that point, watching him learn and grow into a badass, only for him to die in a Deus Ex Machina moment. What a shitshow! That game really started the downfall of the AC as a franchise, because the modern day story became mostly irrelevant at that point.
@@jirkazalabak1514 I’m not saying the game is perfect or that making Connor static was a good decision, my point is that you can’t just label the entire game as “shit” because of ONE character
@@YoruWasTaken If that character is the MAIN character, then I most certainly can. If the player spends almost the entire game playing as Connor, then his character will have a big impact on their overall impression of the game. Also, Connor isn´t the only problem. As I said, the modern day storyline is also a huge disappointment. Many of the side activities are extremely boring as well. Assassination contracts are basically just like "kill these 5 random people with muskets in the Boston area". Like WTF? No guards? No scenarios? The Frontier, while beautiful to look at, is a pain to travel through, and the shiny new parkour system is almost useless there. Stealth is mostly passive and boring, and the mission structure doesn´t promote it very much. Missions in BF and Rogue are much better when it comes to stealth gameplay, which is weird, because you are a pirate in one game and a Templar in the other. The game has it´s positives of course. The soundtrack is good, the animations look pretty good (the best in the Kenway saga probably). The ship gameplay is also decent. The foundation of the game is stable. It´s just a shame that they didn´t come up with better story and setting (more parkour-friendly) to build on that foundation.
AC3 combat was my favorite back when it came out, and I think it's the best among the AC games with guns. It's very easy to master once you get the hang of it, but it isn't mindless. You still need to pay attention to each enemy type - Agiles can't be disarmed, Officers can't be counter-attacked and have hard-hitting counter-attacks + a pistol, Grenadiers can't be counter-attacked and have strong attacks + grenades, and Jaegers are like a hybrid of the Officers and Grenadiers. And all of them have muskets, so even the basic Militia and Regulars could threaten you with a single shot or a volley and you had to pay attention to that or get bullets to the face. It was balanced by human shields and how inaccurate the guns could be. So I was kinda disappointed when AC4, as good as it was, went back to pinpoint-accurate muskets and less variety in the enemy types.
Yes man, you nailed it. Also the double counter animations! Different ones for different weapons and enemy types. And even if you were double countering two regulars with the tomahawk you’d still get a few different animations. It was all so smooth and satisfying. Black Flag had a fraction of the variety and Unity was way less smooth.
agreed. It definitely has the best guns of all ac games (the original only tho), cuz you can aim without pulling out your weapon, charge a shot, and the game allows you to fucking aim without the cursor, so you need to guess it right if you hold high profile
@@isaac2718 lack of weapons? It has sword, hb, tomahawk, unarmed combat, heavy axe, war club, dagger, muskets. Compare that to any other ac game but the RPGs. It's definitely harder than combat from bh and rev for example, and it has massive depth placing it above almost every other combat system in the series. AC3 is the best AC game for a reason
@@isaac2718 parkour in ac3 is automatic maybe if you just hold forward and high profile, in fact it"s up to you to use correct input some mountains were challenging to climb for example figuring out how to reach the trinket east of Connor's village. Protagonist is a thing of opinion and story is better in ac3 6 times, especially if Revelations' is as bad as it is
The one problem in this game I'm never able to get over is the fact that Connor finds out about Haytham off screen. It's just so incredibly disappointing to me and it just takes away any of the impact any of their scenes have afterwards. He literally trained and brought together the guys that killed Connors mother and destroyed his hometown but we don't even see Connors reaction to that. It's like if Luke learning about Darth Vader happened offscreen.
surely the game missed a few key moments including the one you mentioned, another one would be Haytham finds out about Connor offscreen as well...another issue i had with this game is the synchronization view is always foggy or fosty, i was expecting a nice view but none happened...
I had a blast with AC3 at it's launch and I never understood why it was so hated in the community. The only thing I'm still salty about is the Juno cliffhanger, more so now, when this story was concluded in the comic book and it was really anticlimactic.
Yep they ruined it. It was such an Amazing story in AC3 and then AC4 came and all we got for the modern day was you walking around an office. What a disgrace, they ruined the franchise and it's potential.
Back in 2012 when this game was released I was 10 years old and I was dreaming about playing this game one day because back then my pc was garbage. Now it's almost 2023 and I'm about to finish this game for the first time and all I can say is that I've enjoyed every single minute of it. One of my favorite AC games for sure.
@@SexLuthor disagree connor is the only Assassin that fought and ended a battlefield. Also the strongest and most naïve Assassin. Edward was just good at see and a ladies men maybe good looking in comparison which can make the character more likeable than an shitty looking one

I loved ac3 the moment it came out. Connor was by far my favorite character of the entire series. I've bought the remastered for my ps4 pro and will play it for nostalgic reasons. The only thing I will say is that the first engine was more realistic. The remaster makes everyone look like they have claymation faces.
I feel like it is actually important for you to go out and do the side quests for Connor considering the context of AC being you living out a characters life. I do agree with the stance that he could’ve been written better as well.
This game had 3d ship combat for 3d tvs. It was amazing. I loved the beauty of this game and the premise. I had no problem with Connor. I wish we got more native protagonists.
the parkour honestly is pretty amazing in this one. too bad the buildings are too far apart IMO, but it strikes a good balance between freedom of movement and ease of use, and also the animations are superb.
Assassins Creed 3 is set in colonial North America, not Europe. Historically speaking houses were not terribly compact like they were in the Old World, and the developers for AC3 got this detail pretty spot on. I don't know what you are complaining about, honestly.
@@spencercarruth9706 well historically speaking sure, but by having buildings so far apart making it kinda hard to do parkour. Not a complaint though, just an observation.
@@spencercarruth9706 It's one of those situations where trading historical accuracy for smoother gameplay would have made sense, or at least providing more cables/trees etc. between the buildings to easily cross the quite large cities. Sure, the accuracy of none of the buildings being more than 3-4 stories tall is spot on, but it does leave you with very few of those 'epic climb' moments that made the previous games so fun.
Connor reminds me of Kratos. A brute, focused on his mission. But still cares about the people he becomes close to. He doesn’t like the bullshit, the corrupt. People who take advantage of those they deem “weaker”. He is steadfast.
I see what you are trying to say, but Kratos is a character that looks for redemption, not revenge. He is a mass murderer who only felt bad about it when he ended up killing his own family, gave himself as a weapon twice to the greek gods for his own benefit and killed them because they didn't erase his past.
Talking about the recruits, I completely fell in love with their options. Sure you could send them to assassinate or snipe like in brotherhood and revelations. But you could also send them to distract guards, to start riots and to dress up as soldiers to get you "tied" in restricted areas . Really underappreciated game.
It honestly sucks how no more AC games implement the assassin recruits system. I held out for it for odyssey and Valhalla and was promptly disappointed.
People only hates AC3 because the internet told them too. Connor was an honorable character and his drive and honor unfortunately blinded him to alot of betrayals but man he has been my favorite since i first played the game
@DEEJMASTER 333 This is simply not true. No disrespect meant, but one of the most prominent themes in AC III is how Connor is constantly being used by his "allies" while having to put his own revenge on the back burner. He's not rude to everyone either; the homestead missions where everyone treats him with equal respect shows that he's actually pretty kind.
Yes. Its only bad because of the smug Connor. This guy is more smug than a mother who has decided to enter your room and leave the door open when she leaves. This guy is a pure example of a knob head. He is the pure example of not learning from your mistakes. I look at him and think about slugs for 2 reasons. 1 being he is as slow as one and 2 is because slug rhymes with smug which is what Connor is. Gameplay, combat, and graphics were fine though. I had way more fun playing with Haytham than with Connor. I liked every aspect about the game except the f*cking protagonist. The main character of the game is the worst part about it. EVERYTHING ELSE was GREAT AND FINE except for CONNOR or RATONHAKETON or whatever the f*ck his name is.
@BOON KIAT LIM let me know if you agree with this. "Yes. Its only bad because of the smug Connor. i like how Connor had similarities with Altair. something about his voice and stoic personality along with his outfit was like recreating the original assassin some of us know and love
To me, Connor is the best Assassin. He never gives up no matter what the fuck happens. He’s like Batman. Many mistake him being serious and stoic as boring, but to him, emotions are a burden and useless to him. He’s good to a fault, and the best IML
To be honest, the most underrated thing about this game is it's background music. It feels completely different. Whenever that music plays in intense situation, I get chills and it makes the entire situation much more impactful. Never had such a song hit my mind
I think my biggest and most unforgivable gripe with this game is that they wrote in and recorded the end game monologue for Connor that showed tons of character development and made him seem so much more real. It showed he was deeply reflecting on all of the events that transpired over the game and his role in them and how he learned from them. It showed some much maturity and they just threw it out. Absolute travesty
I still just don't get why people hated this. It's still one of my top 5 favorites in the series, behind brotherhood. When tree climbing was introduced, I went crazy. The whole overall story was amazing as well. If you are a true, extremely devoted person to the franchise then I guess it would've been slightly disappointing. But still, I find it to be an amazing game overall in the assassins creed series.
I had no idea that AC3 was so hated as a game. I've always been under the impression that it was loved! I remember everyone loving it back in the day! The tomahawk is iconic! I'd say its the most recognisable AC weapon apart from the Hidden Blade
The prologue definitely takes its time, but I loved the later parts. The interactions between Hayrham and Connor in the later sequences were hilarious. Seeing the revolutionary war progress through connor’s eyes was cool too.
I've never related to a character more than I have with Connor. He's in a lot of ways, how a real human being would behave if they experienced what he had to go through. I love that he will never give up on his ideals no matter what others say. Some may call that naïve. But it shows how strong he is mentally as he is physically. He's not corruptible and there's nothing that could sway him. He always calls out the injustices happening in front of him. He would not simply stand by and watch evil take over. He fights. Even if it's a losing battle. He always fights. He's headstrong and nothing stands in his way. I personally think AC3 is a game you have to let it flow rather than trying to get to some objective (Trying to skip the prologue ASAP, Trying to play as Connor etc.). Taking your time and exploring everything the game has to offer does wonders. This is the only game I felt 100%-ing actually felt rewarding and I have 100%-ed most AC games (You can skip the tunnels though). I love that Templars aren't Saturday morning cartoon villains again. The Ezio trilogy really turned Templars into that after all the effort AC1 went through to show their complex nature. Haytham is arguably one of the best characters in the entire franchise. PS: The soundtrack is amazing. You should've mentioned it. But I'm extremely happy with how thought out this video essay is.

yes mate, the sountrack is so amazing, the homestead missions are amazing, and so is the recruitment missions. It was made with a lot of focus on characters. I personally loved connor as well. Im a big time ac3 fan.
exactly characters like Pitcairn , hickey , Haytham ... actually made sense and made connor question his ideology thus us in the process, their dying words were epic the writing was just the best , and that shows that connor is the most mature among all assassins he actually understood that grey area and worked to unite the two sides and even when things were very tough it couldn't affect him mentally bcz he had faith and hope every time and he kept pushing. That is why Haytham told him he was proud of him.
This was my first Assassin's Creed game and I loved playing it every single time and back in the day I would go back into it and just explore the world and seeing what I could do and see how they replicated the era. Truly I believe that Assassin's Creed III is the best game in the series IMO
I agree about the prologue bit. I just picked up AC3 to play through for the first time. I actually found myself appreciating the Haytham section because we got to know, on a more personal level, who would ultimately be the villains in this story arc. When I was playing Haytham’s bit I was surprised they were Templars - they seemed like decent people. It wasn’t until you saw through Connor’s eyes the reality of who they were. There’s something to appreciate there, making your villains more personable. They aren’t just random nobodies you learn about during a 2 minute exposition dump before you assassinate them. You actually know the people you’re going after. It was pretty cool. I can’t say it was executed in the perfect way, the rushed some of it, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I also very much enjoy exploring early America, running through the trees. It’s a good change of pace from all the cities we got in the previous installments.
The underground tunnels we're actually one of my favorite parts of this game. I loved to solve the puzzles and reach a different entrance that would put a fast travel point on my map.
One of my fav games in the entire franchise! I just simply love Connor, and a native american protagonist is not a very common thing! I speak for myself, when i say, that this game is one of my favourite in the entire franchise, it received too much hate and stupidity from annoying fans back then. Connor had too much dedication, devotion and atitude. Its funny, when you are playing Assassins Creed lll, the game feels so correct in the both sides (Templars and Assassins) giving us the oportunity to have an experience of different ideas. To choose our own decisions. In some point in the game, i was with Haytham, in others with Connor. For me, there's no enemies in this game, only two factions with different ideas. I played, all the entire franchise and this game is the only one, that you are feeling that the Assassins persuit an empty goal and the templars only want to follow an order, direction and purpose.
I just recently finished all of 3 (minus the dlc) and i love Connor. He is an absolute beast when it comes to combat and i found myself really liking his character. He can be EXTREMELY aggressive and naive at times, but it is understandabpe considering his enviroment and the time period he lives in. He is shown to have a big compassionate and soft side with the homestead missions and how he cares about the people he practically rule over. Running through trees and the frontier is surprisingly satisfying. I also liked that twist with Haythem in the beginning and loved the modern day stuff in this one (made me wish we got more modern day segments where you do assassin style missions in later games). I loved the Homestead missions and how assassin recruits were given more depth and personality in this one. This game also has my favorite costumes with the spirit animal costume and warrior gear. The parkour in this one is also one of my favorites. I love the weapons and kills. Im also one of those people who actually loved exploring the sewers for fast travel points. Exploring this game in general was alot fun. And that ending...just so good. Things i didn't like were the qtes when hunting animals because they can glitch out and not read your inputs. Free falling from trees into haystacks was also janky 90% of the time with you aiming for it, on for Connor to jump to his death. I also found myself not really utilizing the trade systen because money rarely ever became an issue and the interface can be confusing especially when navigating the menus. The optional objectives were also awful (i hate them in most the series though, especially Brotherhoods and Revelations). I also experienced a few glitches in some areas with the physics, but not enough to really ruin anything. I also felt cities were WAY too saturated with guards at times. I found it borderline impossible at times to lose guards.
wow u hit the nail on the head with this one. this was one of my favorite in the series & it's nostalgic for me too cuz i remember staying up for the release date of this as a kid lol this was the first time i've even seen ur videos before, subscribed !!
You know, at first I also greatly disliked Connor for his character, when I was like a 13 year old, but with the pass of time I got to appreciate more his story and development. If you consider his background and experiences and give just a minimal thinking, his character is quite realistic.
The issue I had with this era (3, Black Flag, Rogue) was the cities. They aren't interesting unlike the other settings. They are so lifeless that the activities within them become a slog.
You are the best AC UA-camr. So thoughtful. You have other major youtubers saying how they want to “slit Kassandra’s throat” and then there’s you, churning out great retrospectives and good-faith analyses
Fr man. Other AC youtubers like Fizhy just shit on the game without second thought. I understand why he hated Oddysey but i dont get why he hated AC3 and Syndicate. Both is has a unique setting. People that watch him would think the game sucks and never played it. Plus everyone wanted Connor to be like Ezio like WTF? Connor has a different yet great personality. Altair would not be loved if not for his involvement in the Ezio trilogy
@@kingf6766 I've played every main title including the chronicles twice and I agree with fizhy. I loved AC3 and it was my favourite entry and I really liked Syndicate when I first played them but when I got back to them after a few years, I hated both of them! They were so dissapointing, and Syndicate was way way worse than 3, because AC3 had atleast Haytham and Desmonds storyline (though I think they could he done better).
Been going through some old games lately, and your channels been constantly on top of my searches. I gotta say I'm really glad to come across your content.
I also don't think Connor is a bad character. As you said, once you take into account his life and his motivations you can easily understand why he is the way he is. I agree that Ubisoft should have showed more of his more compassionate side and the other aspects of his character on the main story, like they did in the Homestead missions. However, after I recently replayed AC 3, I realized that it's not that Connor is just brooding and angry that makes him appear bland, it's the way his lines are delivered. There were times where I thought he sounded bored or disinterested when scenes clearly meant him to be tense, sad, reflexive, thoughtful, etc. No disrespect to his VA, it just comes across that way somehow. Contrast that with Bayek, who can be similarly brooding and stoic at times, but the VA's performance is so good he never once sounds repetitive, disinterested or bland even in the moments the writing is not that great.
I agree so much with this 100% and Connor’s dialogue with his lines definitely could’ve been a lot better but I don’t think that he’s a bad character too by any means 😊
In regards to Connor's dialogue, you have to remember that the English he speaks is not his native language. People who speak languages they do not grow up with tend to speak more slowly and maybe even monotonously. In fact, Connor doesn't use any contractions in his speech which is also something that non-native speakers tend to do. Overall, I think the "monotony" was a conscious decision by the writers and to me, it helps bring home the fact that Connor is a fish out of water throughout most of the game.
One interesting thing about ac3 was through the whole Haythem story part was being watched by 4 assassins(one was even leader of assassins) but none of them noticed Haythem was a templar untill it was said out loud, showing how similar both templar and assassins can be to each other. I liked Altair and Ezio but they didn't move me as much Kenwey family did, they were and are my favorite, i can't say how sad i was when Haythem died. He was the most character in the whole ac series for me
I actually love AC3 its definitely my favorite in the series. I know it's definitely strange having it higher than the Ezio trilogy or black flag. But for me it just works
The strong politics plot in 3 makes this game is on my top tier list.. it makes you doubt everything, questioning everyone intention, even sometimes makes you think "are we on the right side in this war?" i hope more AC games involved more diplomatic drama like this too in the future, cause it's giving the impression that this two faction literally control everything from the shadow
I just bought the Remastered Version to relive my Childhood. I absolutely loved it then, and I love it now. I think the Newer games are worst. Like, let us go back wayyyy before the Creed was even founded.. I'd rather have an AC in the WW1 period, Which would be amazing as I think about it
finally i see someone who also liked the fast travel tunnels, i loved them, its even kinda scary i usually play with low brightness and in a dark room, it was like a scary game where youre expecting something to appear
I remember playing this game back in 2012 when it had released. I was 25 and I won't lie when I say I found Connor a little depressing when compared to Ezio, but I remember loving the story and thinking that AC3 had a more mature storyline. The ending where Charles Lee offers a beer to him before basically going "well do what you have to" was one of the best moments in a game let alone an AC game for me at the time. I ended up replaying AC3 two more times after that and each time I played it, I found myself liking the game even more. But then Black Flag released and honestly, I was so blown away by that game that I ended up forgetting AC3 lol. Hell, I am an Ezio fanboy but I ended up liking BF more than even AC2.
I've been replaying all the old ac games starting with 2. Ac revelations was the most fun to replay. But then I got to ac3 and everything about it just gave me a different feeling than the rest. A good feeling. You have to look at Conner's story as a tragedy. Not a happy ending. You'll have a different level of appreciation for him if you look at it that way.
AS3 was my favorite game!!! When I was trying to figure out which assassin to cosplay I picked Connor. I felt a strong connection with him out of all of them. Years later when I took a DNA test and I found out I was half native American. 😀 So now this story is more special to my heart.
This was the video i never knew i needed. I loved this game back in the day and everything about it especially the combat and i feel it’s definitely one of the more memorable games in the series even though that’s honestly super hard to say since each game before the ps4 era just about, in my opinion, we’re just amazing and immersive story wise. Awesome video man great job
I actually loved the first part of this game with Haytham. I've always found the "prologue was too long" argument to be lacking and it reeks of people with short or simplistic attention spans.
Connor and Haythem both have a special place in my heart because it was the first ac game a played so I didn't have any thing else to compare so I loved it. Ezio did quickly become my top face once I started playing more ac games but I did love ac 3
Jayvee yes man! I’m so glad you’ve made this video, I couldn’t agree more with you, AC3 was honestly one of my favourites and I’m so glad you addressed the homestead stuff! I had suuuch high hopes for Ravensthorpe because I thought it’d be like the homestead, you met your people, you did missions with them and then invited them into the homestead, you grew them and upgraded their facilities so they could do more and more for you, they had stories and felt essential, they weren’t just there waiting for you to drop one sum of gold and that was it, there was so much more to them than that and your assassins guild too, actual fleshed out missions and progress and unique characters, ah, AC3 had so much more going for it with its systems than Valhalla I personally feel, Valhalla could’ve been sooo much better if it’d taken more inspiration from AC3. Potentially a very controversial opinion I know but it’s how I feel.
no mate i totally agree with you. No matter how much valhalla/odyssey tries, as long as it doesnt do away with those generic movements, ( thinking of the folding hand animation gives me trauma), the script wont matter as long as they dont make good animations, because we fall in love with characters just as much with their expressions and nuances than with their stories. IN AC3 however, each character was very detailed, and different, and everyone felt unique. even if they werent like able, but they were still valued because of their uniqueness. Also, the homestead and recruitment missions of ac3 are the best so far in the series imo.
AC3 was the first AC game and also the first game that has parkour mechanics that I played, and for me it was awesome. The graphics, the parkour, the fighting, the story, etc. I absolutely love Connor and his story, Ubisoft did a good job on building his character.
I love Connor and wish he got a sequel. His story has so much freedom to grow that, if they are willing to put the time in, could really resonate with people as he deals with the formative years of the United States, and preparing his new brotherhood for these changes.
Connor was nice the only thing I hate about ac3 is his prologue it was too long and gets me bored. They could've just make it a cutscene and summarize it
No chance he'll get sequels. That was the time where Assassin's Creed is already known to the mass market. Opinions and everything started to builds up. And all of those stupid critisicm about the game, doing the sequel for a character or a game that is hated by the market majority is a suicide. I mean, it's obvious the fans of the current RPG series aren't fans from back then. People who loves current Assassin's Creed were the same people who mostly hate the originals, and people who loves the originals mostly hates the current one.
People were used to having Ezio who is outgoing and charming, Connor is serious and introverted. This game and Unity have got to be the most overhated in the series, maybe along with Mirage.
Ac3 is by far my fave game in the series. The easy old combat system is so good when you want to chill with a game and not have to think too hard, it still had soul unlike others (syndicate), and the introduction to animal hunting was fun, not to mention an amazing opening mission on a big ship. Going to go back to it instead of getting valhalla
I loved AC3 from the start. It was the only game in the franchise I have watched all the behind the scenes videos and trailers multiple times before it was released. Always been curious about the American revolution and other events of its time I keep hearing about separately from different sources. To have it almost all at once exploring at my own pace was a great experience. Had to replay it again after a long break to understand it better 😆 Especially the homestead missions. Got lost track what was going on there. Redoing the whole thing in order made it better. Same with the brotherhood members we meet, get to know them and perform missions together. Sad future games no longer have that feature. Now it’s only talk to people on occasions but they do not participate in our journey.
It's great to see all this AC3 and Connor appreciation in the comments ❤ Connor is one of my all time favourite characters and AC3 is definitely my favourite AC game!
Did anyone else buy the Connor hoodie back in 2012? I tried to find mine for this video but I lost it 😢 Still love this game! Thanks for watching!
Well, I asked for this video just a couple of days ago in a comment to another AC video of yours!
Of course you must have been working on it for way longer than two days, but still I thank you as if it were a direct answer to my personal request. I'm egotistic like that.
(LOL!)
Thanks for your videos, and for this series in particular!
p.s.
I liked this game a lot, having played it in its original version but when the vast majority of bugs and problems was already fixed.
I always liked both:
- the extended prologue, that to me is a strong point of this chapter among the series' story telling used methods (vs other chapters, I mean),
- and Connor as a main protagonist, as I think he is indeed the perfect central piece of the puzzle for holding the whole thing together (he cannot be some lighthearted kind of character, in a story that is not a joke anywhere and in any way).
Hello Jayvee is the game stopped by levelling if I just wanna play through the story?
Hahaha, yes! I have that Connor hoodie hanging on the coat rack in my room. 😆
Oh my god I read your comment and remembered I actually have it in my closet, beaked hood and all! It was huge on me when I bought it, wonder if it would fit me now...
It’s actually what got me
Into AC
As a Nigerian with no connection to American history, the characters story and plot were so well woven that till this day it remains my favorite AC game.
It also got me into US history Lol 😅
Now AC is my favorite not just game franchise but franchise period

I will say AC3 more than any other AC game, made me feel like I could charge in and take on a whole army with my tomahawk and my knife. Connor was a beast
Except when we had an actual mission take place during a huge battle and all we did was sneak around to kill one Templar. That disappointed me as a kid
He sure was a beast when my counter attack would just throw people and not actually kill them
That's because none of the previous games aimed for this, the stealh was more rewarding than rushing into the enemies, and if you did, then you had to be good at the combat, otherwise you'd be in trouble.
@@KingindaNorf I agree, it's an amazing arc! The world is so beautiful and the gameplay is unique and engaging.

Like they're mostly savages or pocahontas like- character and that's it.
I thought Connor was pretty cool, and I never before played a game about native Americans. Your culture is amazing, shame its not really a popular topic for media here in Russia
Connor definitely got the short end of the stick. Any character having to be the follow-up to Ezio would have had a tough time swaying the fanbase.
Edward was killed by two men, whom we know nothing about other than him being impaled through the chest with a sword, had his son grown as a templar, and had his best friend killed by a comrade of his son, in front of said son. Haytham watched his uncle die essentially

That scene has always stuck with me, AC3 will always be my personal top 3 AC games
I too like to play through an extremely mind numbingly boring game just so I can fall in love with it in the final scene
Holy Satan AC fans are insufferable.
@@godofchaoskhorne5043 I like how you try to use smart sounding vocabulary but are utter trash at grammar. It's quite contrasting.
Enough to make a grown man cry
Yes, because Connor is now mature enough to understand that vengance is a fool's errand. He isn't hunting Lee for vengeance anymore, he's hunting Lee because Lee is a templar and templars, even when not evil, are corrupting and poisonous to every society they interfere. Connor isn't happy or fulfilled, he isn't cruel about killing Lee, he does it because is his only option

Who else thought that having trees you could free-run on was a huge missed opportunity in the dense forest areas in AC: Valhalla
You can't climb trees in Valhalla? The hell.

AC4 delved into that on mayan and aztec stuff
People compared him too much to ezio and altaïr so they were expecting too much
It's like Kylo Ren
@@deantzu the Maya stuff in AC4 is just the name and some modified designs.

Would e been nice to get 3 games of Connor to flesh out his long term story

Dude, literally the same case with me. I actually love this game 💯😄
Its my favourite AC game. Beautiful atmosphere and great characters.
same dude, was the first ac game i rlly got hooked on. I see the problems but i still love the epicness of it.

Connor was great as a protagonist, very well developed since childhood. From a historical standpoint, his character works perfectly
Yeah nothing more realistic than playing chess with the person who ordered your entire village to be burned
Yeah it's crazy how it fits right in. And it tells the story from a aspect that other early Colony Based stories just don't care to talk about.
@@alizaidi2893 Just as realistic as everything else in the series.
Wow this is such great insight! Great point on the single game factor, it’s tough to put Connor against Ezio when he had one game.
@@jayveeeee It would have been great to see Connor in a second game where he’s older like Ezio in Revelations. Seeing him quell his anger and finding purpose past that and how much that makes him grow as a person is something I would love to see. In any case, thank you mate for putting this game into perspective and would love your thoughts on AC1, Revelations, and AC Unity. Those games don’t get a lot of light in my eyes for some reason
youre right, man. I suppose connor took a lot more empathy to understand and people just couldnt
I miss Desmond :( I think Ubisoft lost the ac feel when they killed him, apart from that, there was something on the original assassins creed (1) that grounded the game to real and mysterious history, something as deep and rich as the plot throughout time between assassins and templars, each time they added some mystical godlike magical theme they departed from that original feel,
Honestly I hate Desmond I feel like if they didn’t include him at all since the start the game would of been better
In the end, they tried to make him Jesus 2.0. A pathetic human sacrifice. That's what we trained him for, folks!
@@harveyshaw6393 Without Desmond Assassin's creed would never exist. The Animus uses genetic DNA from Desmond to access his ancestor's memories and past life without him the Animus wouldn't work he's the key to everything

It’s a feeling every minority feels dumbass. At least in the English speaking world you get special rights for it.
@@ezioauditore6371 Wait. I thought Achilles cut Connor down
@@feetwithtoesjoe8875 nope it was either said or implied that the assassins didnt make it in time to rescue him so Haytham did by throwing the hatchet
My favorite scene bro !!! I’m playing it now
AC3 was the first I played, and I loved it!
I got into AC through this game too
AC3 was my first too😊
Same with me too! This very game started my undying love for this franchise 😊
I love how they introduced a native american assassin but only if he was a half breed it still fit well....
It was my first and I thought it was good but when I played black flag and AC2 it made my mind change
I loved this game
Probably best looking outfit, controls are more comfortable than in previous games, nice homestead side story, epic Desmond moments, badass Haytham
whats there not to like? right!
Yup, so true
Soundtrack absolutely slapped. The song called “trouble in town” that played during the Charles lee chase is one of my favorite in the series
Protagonist is a thing of opinion and story is better in ac3 6 times, especially if Revelations' is as bad as it is
Rope dart goes brrrt
The one problem in this game I'm never able to get over is the fact that Connor finds out about Haytham off screen. It's just so incredibly disappointing to me and it just takes away any of the impact any of their scenes have afterwards. He literally trained and brought together the guys that killed Connors mother and destroyed his hometown but we don't even see Connors reaction to that. It's like if Luke learning about Darth Vader happened offscreen.
THIS! I forgot this happened until I saw this comment and the flood of disappointment I felt when I first played AC3 came rushing back to me
Conner village was destroyed by Washington tho
@@melfeek4304 the main point is that the big reveal that most people are interested in seeing, happens off screen which is pretty frustrating
reminded me of the one flaw about this game
surely the game missed a few key moments including the one you mentioned, another one would be Haytham finds out about Connor offscreen as well...another issue i had with this game is the synchronization view is always foggy or fosty, i was expecting a nice view but none happened...
Connor is badass, AC3 was a great unique experience done well for its time.
He's so badass that his brain is Rusting pretty badly

I feel like it is actually important for you to go out and do the side quests for Connor considering the context of AC being you living out a characters life. I do agree with the stance that he could’ve been written better as well.
The ending of AC3 pisses me off because they set up this huge showdown with Juno (“now it’s my turn”) which ultimately does not matter at all.
@@cameronhector9074 I think that's why the developers left all of the "amazing high points" for the wilderness as a compromise.
@@ezioauditore6371 that’s cuz it wouldn’t work at all in those game
People only hates AC3 because the internet told them too. Connor was an honorable character and his drive and honor unfortunately blinded him to alot of betrayals but man he has been my favorite since i first played the game
Everyone was mad he wasn't Ezio and honestly it's so dumb. I'm glad Connor is just his own unique character.

‘‘He would not simply stand by and watch evil take over. He fights. Even if it's a losing battle.’’
As he put it: ‘‘Because no one else will.’’
yes mate, the sountrack is so amazing, the homestead missions are amazing, and so is the recruitment missions.
That’s what I loved about ac3 it really makes you question if your doing the right thing and none of the other games really do that
When Achilles dies and you go visit his grave with Connor, the speech Connor gave makes me cry every time!
Thanks for this. AC3 is one of my absolute favourites entries in the franchise, so it's very refreshing to hear someone singing its praise for once!
Another great video. For what it's worth I throw my love behind AC3.

Yeah, he's stoic, but absolutely not a bland character
The issue I had with this era (3, Black Flag, Rogue) was the cities. They aren't interesting unlike the other settings. They are so lifeless that the activities within them become a slog.
You are the best AC UA-camr. So thoughtful. You have other major youtubers saying how they want to “slit Kassandra’s throat” and then there’s you, churning out great retrospectives and good-faith analyses

Been going through some old games lately, and your channels been constantly on top of my searches. I gotta say I'm really glad to come across your content.
This game is my personal favorite. I love the setting, the time, the characters, etc. I love it so much
I also don't think Connor is a bad character.
He was the most character in the whole ac series for me
Finally, someone who understands and appreciate ac3 for what it is. This was my first introduction to AC world

It just works, as my man Todd Howard once said
The homestead missions are perfect they’re a good change of pace after doing nothing but killing everyone it makes Connor feel human
I am someone who always enjoyed AC3! Before black flag it was my favourite of the series
I liked the story for this game. It was pretty good
The strong politics plot in 3 makes this game is on my top tier list..
it makes you doubt everything, questioning everyone intention, even sometimes makes you think "are we on the right side in this war?"
i hope more AC games involved more diplomatic drama like this too in the future, cause it's giving the impression that this two faction literally control everything from the shadow
I just bought the Remastered Version to relive my Childhood. I absolutely loved it then, and I love it now. I think the Newer games are worst. Like, let us go back wayyyy before the Creed was even founded.. I'd rather have an AC in the WW1 period, Which would be amazing as I think about it
Assassin’s Creed 3 being my first mainline AC game: Definitely not a bad game.

finally i see someone who also liked the fast travel tunnels, i loved them, its even kinda scary i usually play with low brightness and in a dark room, it was like a scary game where youre expecting something to appear
Plus the whole freemason imagery creeped me out
I remember playing this game back in 2012 when it had released.
This is actually my favorite assassins creed game
I've been replaying all the old ac games starting with 2. Ac revelations was the most fun to replay. But then I got to ac3 and everything about it just gave me a different feeling than the rest. A good feeling. You have to look at Conner's story as a tragedy. Not a happy ending. You'll have a different level of appreciation for him if you look at it that way.
His last monologue is absolutely tragical, yet still quite beautiful
@@Vlugazoide nice hair dude!
@@vjxbigbear thanks you!
I still go back to Assassin’s creed 3 to this day It does the whole Assassin Templar thing perfectly Connor and Haythams dialogue is perfection.
It was the first AC game I ever played, so it was very nostalgic for me. I also loved AC4 to AC Syndicate, but AC3 was really special.
Syndicate is miles ahead of anything 3 ever was.

Had to replay it again after a long break to understand it better 😆
Especially the homestead missions. Got lost track what was going on there. Redoing the whole thing in order made it better.
Same with the brotherhood members we meet, get to know them and perform missions together. Sad future games no longer have that feature.
Now it’s only talk to people on occasions but they do not participate in our journey.
I love these AC retrospective videos!
It's great to see all this AC3 and Connor appreciation in the comments ❤ Connor is one of my all time favourite characters and AC3 is definitely my favourite AC game!
