Well, I asked for this video just a couple of days ago in a comment to another AC video of yours! Of course you must have been working on it for way longer than two days, but still I thank you as if it were a direct answer to my personal request. I'm egotistic like that. (LOL!) Thanks for your videos, and for this series in particular! p.s. I liked this game a lot, having played it in its original version but when the vast majority of bugs and problems was already fixed. I always liked both: - the extended prologue, that to me is a strong point of this chapter among the series' story telling used methods (vs other chapters, I mean), - and Connor as a main protagonist, as I think he is indeed the perfect central piece of the puzzle for holding the whole thing together (he cannot be some lighthearted kind of character, in a story that is not a joke anywhere and in any way).
Oh my god I read your comment and remembered I actually have it in my closet, beaked hood and all! It was huge on me when I bought it, wonder if it would fit me now...
It’s actually what got me Into AC As a Nigerian with no connection to American history, the characters story and plot were so well woven that till this day it remains my favorite AC game. It also got me into US history Lol 😅 Now AC is my favorite not just game franchise but franchise period Even tho Odyssey was... questionable
I will say AC3 more than any other AC game, made me feel like I could charge in and take on a whole army with my tomahawk and my knife. Connor was a beast
Except when we had an actual mission take place during a huge battle and all we did was sneak around to kill one Templar. That disappointed me as a kid
That's because none of the previous games aimed for this, the stealh was more rewarding than rushing into the enemies, and if you did, then you had to be good at the combat, otherwise you'd be in trouble. Rushing into the enemies is totally the opposite of what is an assassin, what they do, and how. "Hide in plain sight" "We work in the dark to serve the light"
@@leooc3601 you had to be good at holding R1 and hitting square at the right time. Sorry but except for AC1 no AC Game before Unity had any sort of combat difficulty. Syndicate was easy again, and the RPG Games can be hard with too many enemies but they really aim for more combat than the older ones
@@hisdudeness1835 the early games for sure didn’t have any difficulty. But play the newer ones on the hardest difficulty, it is definitely a challenge.
@@DaegosYT loved it so far best arc in my opinion but I still haven’t finished the main story. I’m glad assassins creed has deep lore involving the different native peoples tribes and civilizations I would love a Connor sequel but I don’t think the rpg style would fit a game set in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
@@KingindaNorf I agree, it's an amazing arc! The world is so beautiful and the gameplay is unique and engaging. I don't think we'll ever get a Connor sequel but it would be cool to see
Man this makes me realise how little native get portrayed in media, especially in Hollywood. Like they're mostly savages or pocahontas like- character and that's it.
I thought Connor was pretty cool, and I never before played a game about native Americans. Your culture is amazing, shame its not really a popular topic for media here in Russia
Edward was killed by two men, whom we know nothing about other than him being impaled through the chest with a sword, had his son grown as a templar, and had his best friend killed by a comrade of his son, in front of said son. Haytham watched his uncle die essentially
@@vinnie19971 You can climb trees the mechanic is still there it's just that Ubisoft didn't design the Dense forested areas in Valhalla with Tree-Running in mind, which to me is a huge wasted opportunity considering the parkour still sucks, and you can only get places by longship or by horse which limits your options significantly, adding in Tree-Running would spice things up so you could get off your Longship kill a target in the woods if one is there escape by Tree-Running and jump off a cliff into the ocean at the edge of a forest and get into your longship or jump off a tree onto your horse and ride away and escape, just adding tree-running would make gameplay more fun, Unity as it stands is still the best Assassin's Creed Game in terms of gameplay mechanic and the assassin feel and no other game comes close, you could literally remake AC1 and the Ezio Trilogy with Unity's gameplay and they would be the best AC Games in terms of story and gameplay.
The moment I fell in love completely with this game is the final scene with Connor and the villain. Where they share a drink, both knowing how their rendezvous will end. The honor of it struck me in a big big way
I too like to play through an extremely mind numbingly boring game just so I can fall in love with it in the final scene Holy Satan AC fans are insufferable. You stanned the most boring franchise in gaming history then cried when it finally had one good game (odyssey) and encouraged ubi to ruin the new system with valhallah "to go back to the old way".. You didn't like AC. You just were a excited kid and had nothing else to play. You got it from your parents or you were a teen high on copious amount of weed.
Yes, because Connor is now mature enough to understand that vengance is a fool's errand. He isn't hunting Lee for vengeance anymore, he's hunting Lee because Lee is a templar and templars, even when not evil, are corrupting and poisonous to every society they interfere. Connor isn't happy or fulfilled, he isn't cruel about killing Lee, he does it because is his only option
I remember my mind being blown when they showed you freerunning on trees. I loved AC1-3. IMO a really great flawless quasi-trilogy that set its mind and went for it. AC3 felt like the big, epic end to an era. That being said it’s absolutely a product of its time.
It was a great story line, but what I hated about that I still can't believe nobody noticed was the walking animations and running animations that Connor has he looks gimped, so I wouldn't say it was a flawless game
Those homestead missions were so good at producing dopamine. Slowly growing a community, building inventions that you get to see on display at the homestead, just taking in the fruits of your labors. Talking to the slowly growing community, advancing their skill and homes to become bigger.... The only downside to homestead missions I can even think of is how missable they can be if you're not careful. AC3 is a game to take your time with. Rushing through main missions and over using fast travel is a great way to miss out on those incredible homestead missions.
Ac3 was extremely special to me, it taught me a lot and I loved every character in the game. I loved the story and Connor is one of my favorites. This game will always hold a special place in my heart
Is he playing the remaster on this video? cause I'm thinking about getting that as I wanna go back to older AC games and wanna have the full Desmond Saga game set.
The one problem in this game I'm never able to get over is the fact that Connor finds out about Haytham off screen. It's just so incredibly disappointing to me and it just takes away any of the impact any of their scenes have afterwards. He literally trained and brought together the guys that killed Connors mother and destroyed his hometown but we don't even see Connors reaction to that. It's like if Luke learning about Darth Vader happened offscreen.
surely the game missed a few key moments including the one you mentioned, another one would be Haytham finds out about Connor offscreen as well...another issue i had with this game is the synchronization view is always foggy or fosty, i was expecting a nice view but none happened...
I miss Desmond :( I think Ubisoft lost the ac feel when they killed him, apart from that, there was something on the original assassins creed (1) that grounded the game to real and mysterious history, something as deep and rich as the plot throughout time between assassins and templars, each time they added some mystical godlike magical theme they departed from that original feel,
I believe they could have brought him back it's a low possibility but there was a mention of a peice of Eden that could bring someone back to life, I thought they'd eventually suprise us with that and say yeah it exists but if you did bring back desmond you'd have a very tough path ahead which would lead into a world war setting in which Hitler turns out to be a Templar leader who has a very dark power you need to discover throughout the story but a new mechanic could be desmond becomes a lot more involved and you can upgrade him throughout the game (eqiup various hidden blades and lost armour)/learn new ways to be an assassin and a new 'timeslip feature' were you can go into that time period as Desmond as what you're facing now is more dangerous than you first thought. Through the game you build a new assassins guild on top of a dying one.
@@harveyshaw6393 Without Desmond Assassin's creed would never exist. The Animus uses genetic DNA from Desmond to access his ancestor's memories and past life without him the Animus wouldn't work he's the key to everything
I always hoped for a modern day Assassin's Creed game and we got a peek of how that would look like when you control Desmond and do what assassins do. When they killed Desmond, I kinda lost interest in the game as a whole and stopped playing AC Series at AC3. I recently picked up Syndicate (was free on epic) and hated it...
my first AC game was syndicate, so by playing the origins, odyssey, valhalla and everything from AC1 to AC rogue I just ended up liking AC brotherhood and AC origins the most because of the locations and main characters.
Ubisoft really messed up the Kenways though. They deserved more. I'm down for a black flag sequel that continues right on when Edward is going to England on jackdaw with Jenny and shows us his tragic ending. I want more edward.
Connor was honestly my favourite protagonist. That laser focus you describe is exactly how he should be. Unlike Ezio who still had a familiar world full of people like him after his family died, Connor was left completely alone and thrust into an alien world of people who look at him like he's less than them. This is a feeling any person of colour in the english-speaking world knows. He has to go further and be better than everyone around him to survive. And that one scene where Connor is being escorted to his execution and we can see his fellow assassins in the background clearing the way to rescue him, wow! Connor is so cool through that whole segment, even saying to the Templar enforcer "I will not die this day. The same can not be said for you!"
whats funny is the assassins goofed with trying to rescue him as its later revealed that Haytham was the one to throw tge hatchet and save Connor from the noose
AC3 combat was my favorite back when it came out, and I think it's the best among the AC games with guns. It's very easy to master once you get the hang of it, but it isn't mindless. You still need to pay attention to each enemy type - Agiles can't be disarmed, Officers can't be counter-attacked and have hard-hitting counter-attacks + a pistol, Grenadiers can't be counter-attacked and have strong attacks + grenades, and Jaegers are like a hybrid of the Officers and Grenadiers. And all of them have muskets, so even the basic Militia and Regulars could threaten you with a single shot or a volley and you had to pay attention to that or get bullets to the face. It was balanced by human shields and how inaccurate the guns could be. So I was kinda disappointed when AC4, as good as it was, went back to pinpoint-accurate muskets and less variety in the enemy types.
Yes man, you nailed it. Also the double counter animations! Different ones for different weapons and enemy types. And even if you were double countering two regulars with the tomahawk you’d still get a few different animations. It was all so smooth and satisfying. Black Flag had a fraction of the variety and Unity was way less smooth.
agreed. It definitely has the best guns of all ac games (the original only tho), cuz you can aim without pulling out your weapon, charge a shot, and the game allows you to fucking aim without the cursor, so you need to guess it right if you hold high profile
You're right but I still think it's the worst combat in the whole series, the animations and stuff were cool, but the lack of weapon variety and the very easy skill curve brought it down a lot for me.
@@isaac2718 lack of weapons? It has sword, hb, tomahawk, unarmed combat, heavy axe, war club, dagger, muskets. Compare that to any other ac game but the RPGs. It's definitely harder than combat from bh and rev for example, and it has massive depth placing it above almost every other combat system in the series. AC3 is the best AC game for a reason
@@Engille967 ac3 is most definitely not the best AC game imo, I thought Haytham was a really well written villain and you’re right about the weapons you listed but it pales in the comparison to the Ezio games which did almost everything better, you had parkour which wasn’t automated you had to use your brain to climb certain things, the protagonist was more likeable, the open worlds were more interesting and parkourable, and that story 👌
I loved this game Probably best looking outfit, controls are more comfortable than in previous games, nice homestead side story, epic Desmond moments, badass Haytham
I feel like it is actually important for you to go out and do the side quests for Connor considering the context of AC being you living out a characters life. I do agree with the stance that he could’ve been written better as well.
People only hates AC3 because the internet told them too. Connor was an honorable character and his drive and honor unfortunately blinded him to alot of betrayals but man he has been my favorite since i first played the game
@DEEJMASTER 333 This is simply not true. No disrespect meant, but one of the most prominent themes in AC III is how Connor is constantly being used by his "allies" while having to put his own revenge on the back burner. He's not rude to everyone either; the homestead missions where everyone treats him with equal respect shows that he's actually pretty kind.
Yes. Its only bad because of the smug Connor. This guy is more smug than a mother who has decided to enter your room and leave the door open when she leaves. This guy is a pure example of a knob head. He is the pure example of not learning from your mistakes. I look at him and think about slugs for 2 reasons. 1 being he is as slow as one and 2 is because slug rhymes with smug which is what Connor is. Gameplay, combat, and graphics were fine though. I had way more fun playing with Haytham than with Connor. I liked every aspect about the game except the f*cking protagonist. The main character of the game is the worst part about it. EVERYTHING ELSE was GREAT AND FINE except for CONNOR or RATONHAKETON or whatever the f*ck his name is.
@BOON KIAT LIM let me know if you agree with this. "Yes. Its only bad because of the smug Connor. Talking about the recruits, I completely fell in love with their options. Sure you could send them to assassinate or snipe like in brotherhood and revelations. But you could also send them to distract guards, to start riots and to dress up as soldiers to get you "tied" in restricted areas . Really underappreciated game.
It honestly sucks how no more AC games implement the assassin recruits system. I held out for it for odyssey and Valhalla and was promptly disappointed.
Back in 2012 when this game was released I was 10 years old and I was dreaming about playing this game one day because back then my pc was garbage. Now it's almost 2023 and I'm about to finish this game for the first time and all I can say is that I've enjoyed every single minute of it. One of my favorite AC games for sure.
To me, Connor is the best Assassin. He never gives up no matter what the fuck happens. He’s like Batman. Many mistake him being serious and stoic as boring, but to him, emotions are a burden and useless to him. He’s good to a fault, and the best IML
i like how Connor had similarities with Altair. something about his voice and stoic personality along with his outfit was like recreating the original assassin some of us know and love
The underground tunnels we're actually one of my favorite parts of this game. I loved to solve the puzzles and reach a different entrance that would put a fast travel point on my map.
I also don't think Connor is a bad character. As you said, once you take into account his life and his motivations you can easily understand why he is the way he is. I agree that Ubisoft should have showed more of his more compassionate side and the other aspects of his character on the main story, like they did in the Homestead missions. However, after I recently replayed AC 3, I realized that it's not that Connor is just brooding and angry that makes him appear bland, it's the way his lines are delivered. There were times where I thought he sounded bored or disinterested when scenes clearly meant him to be tense, sad, reflexive, thoughtful, etc. No disrespect to his VA, it just comes across that way somehow. Contrast that with Bayek, who can be similarly brooding and stoic at times, but the VA's performance is so good he never once sounds repetitive, disinterested or bland even in the moments the writing is not that great.
I agree so much with this 100% and Connor’s dialogue with his lines definitely could’ve been a lot better but I don’t think that he’s a bad character too by any means 😊
In regards to Connor's dialogue, you have to remember that the English he speaks is not his native language. People who speak languages they do not grow up with tend to speak more slowly and maybe even monotonously. In fact, Connor doesn't use any contractions in his speech which is also something that non-native speakers tend to do. Overall, I think the "monotony" was a conscious decision by the writers and to me, it helps bring home the fact that Connor is a fish out of water throughout most of the game.
The issue I had with this era (3, Black Flag, Rogue) was the cities. They aren't interesting unlike the other settings. They are so lifeless that the activities within them become a slog.
I just recently finished all of 3 (minus the dlc) and i love Connor. He is an absolute beast when it comes to combat and i found myself really liking his character. He can be EXTREMELY aggressive and naive at times, but it is understandabpe considering his enviroment and the time period he lives in. He is shown to have a big compassionate and soft side with the homestead missions and how he cares about the people he practically rule over. Running through trees and the frontier is surprisingly satisfying. I also liked that twist with Haythem in the beginning and loved the modern day stuff in this one (made me wish we got more modern day segments where you do assassin style missions in later games). I loved the Homestead missions and how assassin recruits were given more depth and personality in this one. This game also has my favorite costumes with the spirit animal costume and warrior gear. The parkour in this one is also one of my favorites. I love the weapons and kills. Im also one of those people who actually loved exploring the sewers for fast travel points. Exploring this game in general was alot fun. And that ending...just so good. Things i didn't like were the qtes when hunting animals because they can glitch out and not read your inputs. Free falling from trees into haystacks was also janky 90% of the time with you aiming for it, on for Connor to jump to his death. I also found myself not really utilizing the trade systen because money rarely ever became an issue and the interface can be confusing especially when navigating the menus. The optional objectives were also awful (i hate them in most the series though, especially Brotherhoods and Revelations). I also experienced a few glitches in some areas with the physics, but not enough to really ruin anything. I also felt cities were WAY too saturated with guards at times. I found it borderline impossible at times to lose guards.
I agree about the prologue bit. I just picked up AC3 to play through for the first time. I actually found myself appreciating the Haytham section because we got to know, on a more personal level, who would ultimately be the villains in this story arc. When I was playing Haytham’s bit I was surprised they were Templars - they seemed like decent people. It wasn’t until you saw through Connor’s eyes the reality of who they were. There’s something to appreciate there, making your villains more personable. They aren’t just random nobodies you learn about during a 2 minute exposition dump before you assassinate them. You actually know the people you’re going after. It was pretty cool. I can’t say it was executed in the perfect way, the rushed some of it, but I appreciate it nonetheless. I also very much enjoy exploring early America, running through the trees. It’s a good change of pace from all the cities we got in the previous installments.
You know, at first I also greatly disliked Connor for his character, when I was like a 13 year old, but with the pass of time I got to appreciate more his story and development. If you consider his background and experiences and give just a minimal thinking, his character is quite realistic.
My biggest problem with Connor was his reaction to his father’s death, I get that he was the grand master of the templars, but haytham said he was proud of Connor despite him being on the opposite side. Connor was just like “Kay bye” lol.
Crazy thing is this game also came out when I was studying the revolution. I feel like it was solid game for 13 year old me to be playing and now having a love of story based games. I really do miss the little cutscenes that would trigger whenever you would take down 2-3 enemies depending on the weapons you’re holding, that was so satisfying and made me realize how brutal Connor really was. He was mad and wanted everyone outta his way , the sad part was when it was all over, he wasn’t happy and the cut dialogue shows that he wanted it but it wasn’t gonna make him happy.
What turned me off to this game and still does... Is the fact that I know that Connor is the mains character and we spend SO MUCH time with haytham. It's not a bad thing but when you know it is the case then you play as haytham like "okay... Start the real.gamr already..." What I mean is it is a LONGGG introduction, a bit too long. But, Al said and done I LOVE the fact that they tried something different. I prefere a hit and miss then a same old formula, which is what the franchise needed after the Ezio trilogy
I just bought the Remastered Version to relive my Childhood. I absolutely loved it then, and I love it now. I think the Newer games are worst. Like, let us go back wayyyy before the Creed was even founded.. I'd rather have an AC in the WW1 period, Which would be amazing as I think about it
I actually love AC3 its definitely my favorite in the series. I know it's definitely strange having it higher than the Ezio trilogy or black flag. But for me it just works
You know what was the biggest nail in the coffin for me? When it was revealed that Charles Lee didn't burn down your village. Wow! What an incredible twist. I wonder how Conner feels about that? I wonder if that made him question his world view. Except we find out through a codex entry. One's that aren't even read by Sean anymore. You review Charles Lee's entry and, at the bottom, as if it doesn't undermine all of the MC's motivations, it's just like: "Oh yeah, it was random bandits."
Jayvee yes man! I’m so glad you’ve made this video, I couldn’t agree more with you, AC3 was honestly one of my favourites and I’m so glad you addressed the homestead stuff! I had suuuch high hopes for Ravensthorpe because I thought it’d be like the homestead, you met your people, you did missions with them and then invited them into the homestead, you grew them and upgraded their facilities so they could do more and more for you, they had stories and felt essential, they weren’t just there waiting for you to drop one sum of gold and that was it, there was so much more to them than that and your assassins guild too, actual fleshed out missions and progress and unique characters, ah, AC3 had so much more going for it with its systems than Valhalla I personally feel, Valhalla could’ve been sooo much better if it’d taken more inspiration from AC3. Potentially a very controversial opinion I know but it’s how I feel.
no mate i totally agree with you. No matter how much valhalla/odyssey tries, as long as it doesnt do away with those generic movements, ( thinking of the folding hand animation gives me trauma), the script wont matter as long as they dont make good animations, because we fall in love with characters just as much with their expressions and nuances than with their stories. IN AC3 however, each character was very detailed, and different, and everyone felt unique. even if they werent like able, but they were still valued because of their uniqueness. Also, the homestead and recruitment missions of ac3 are the best so far in the series imo.
The strong politics plot in 3 makes this game is on my top tier list.. it makes you doubt everything, questioning everyone intention, even sometimes makes you think "are we on the right side in this war?" i hope more AC games involved more diplomatic drama like this too in the future, cause it's giving the impression that this two faction literally control everything from the shadow
AC3 was the first AC game and also the first game that has parkour mechanics that I played, and for me it was awesome. The graphics, the parkour, the fighting, the story, etc. I absolutely love Connor and his story, Ubisoft did a good job on building his character.
This was the video i never knew i needed. I loved this game back in the day and everything about it especially the combat and i feel it’s definitely one of the more memorable games in the series even though that’s honestly super hard to say since each game before the ps4 era just about, in my opinion, we’re just amazing and immersive story wise. Awesome video man great job
One interesting thing about ac3 was through the whole Haythem story part was being watched by 4 assassins(one was even leader of assassins) but none of them noticed Haythem was a templar untill it was said out loud, showing how similar both templar and assassins can be to each other. I liked Altair and Ezio but they didn't move me as much Kenwey family did, they were and are my favorite, i can't say how sad i was when Haythem died. He was the most character in the whole ac series for me
I remember reading an article from way back. It was all about how the next Splinter Cell was going to be all about social stealth in cities and stuff. They used a train station as an example I think. Blending into the crowd and shit. Never ended up happening in Splinter Cell but they obviously brought the idea into Assasins Creed...
I loved AC3 from the start. It was the only game in the franchise I have watched all the behind the scenes videos and trailers multiple times before it was released. Always been curious about the American revolution and other events of its time I keep hearing about separately from different sources. To have it almost all at once exploring at my own pace was a great experience. Had to replay it again after a long break to understand it better 😆 Especially the homestead missions. Got lost track what was going on there. Redoing the whole thing in order made it better. Same with the brotherhood members we meet, get to know them and perform missions together. Sad future games no longer have that feature. Now it’s only talk to people on occasions but they do not participate in our journey.
Connor and Haythem both have a special place in my heart because it was the first ac game a played so I didn't have any thing else to compare so I loved it. Ezio did quickly become my top face once I started playing more ac games but I did love ac 3
finally i see someone who also liked the fast travel tunnels, i loved them, its even kinda scary i usually play with low brightness and in a dark room, it was like a scary game where youre expecting something to appear
I absolutely loved this game and I can’t even put my finger on why, my second favourite behind black flag. I found the environment/aesthetic so much cooler than AC2, brotherhood etc.
Ac3 is by far my fave game in the series. The easy old combat system is so good when you want to chill with a game and not have to think too hard, it still had soul unlike others (syndicate), and the introduction to animal hunting was fun, not to mention an amazing opening mission on a big ship. Going to go back to it instead of getting valhalla
AS3 was my favorite game!!! When I was trying to figure out which assassin to cosplay I picked Connor. I felt a strong connection with him out of all of them. Years later when I took a DNA test and I found out I was half native American. 😀 So now this story is more special to my heart.
My problem with the fake out prologue is that Ubisoft didn't have the guts to just let us play a Templar. What's worse, when they finally make a templar game, it's shallow and rushed.
I haven't played this specific Assassin's Creed game yet but I have played Black Flag and I am almost done with rogue so I am very excited to play this game because I love this system
Ac3 was my first AC i've ever played and tbh, i loved it! Connor Was a beast and you understand his tragic Story. The loss of his mother and the Motivation to help his people seemed so understandable! The Combat System was great and i actually liked The parcour. Every kill was filled with hate and rage and i liked that. He is in my top 3 assassin category list
AC3 is the first AC game for me so I couldn't compare Connor to anyone. And for me, AC3 got a great story and characters. Homestead mission doesn't feel like side missions because it adds dimension to Connor. And the scene where they gave Connor a flag is a tearjerker.
Connor was always my favorite assassin in the whole series, as someone who also had/has a lot of built up anger and resentment due to being dealt a bad hand in life, and have difficulty trusting anyone, so seeing Connor deal with the same issues I was dealing with made it easy to empathize with his struggles
Prior to playing this game I only played sports games, racing games, shooters and GTA sometimes but this was the first open world game I played and finished. it was also the First AC game I played and I liked it so much that I even read the book Assassin's creed forsaken. I don't read books at all but the game's story and characters really pushed me to read the book and it was well worth it. I agree with every point made in this video and relate to so many things mentioned.
This is one of my favorites in the series. But I think it has some real heavy flaws. One of them being mission design. There's a lot of really boring, frustrating, or confusing story missions. I feel like the war setting is ultimately underutilized in the story as well But the open world was great. The side missions and exploration were engaging. The in game economy and trading system is incredibly deep. Building the homestead was satisfying. The naval missions were epic and immersive. I spent hours just running around the woods stringing up British patrols with the rope dart. And I thought the season changing was cool! Stomping around in the snow was something new in an open world game like that. The colonial cities were really believable and something so different to have an AC game in and I found that really captivating. Being surrounded by British soldiers in the cities was a double edged sword. It lent to that feeling of the tension and oppression of the early revolutionary war. And led to some epic chase/escape sequences You did however have those chase sequences a bit too often though. Guards were intensely aggressive lol
This game was definitely one my most favorite games of all time and it is nearly impossible for me to hate on it. Regardless of what anybody says and the nostalgia is too overpowering.
Probably my most favorite AC. I loved this game and the multiplayer when it was the AC during it's time. The story was something I didn't understand all too well back then but Connor's background was something I could relate to.
When I started assassin's creed I always thought that Connor was the mascot of Assassin's Creed. Because of the Bald eagle and all that. He suits more as an Assassin, just like Captain Kenway or, Altair, the father of the Assassins
The problem I had with Connor as a character was that despite all this well deserved rage he often portrayed, he was generally very docile and compliant, and often seems to just follow along. He's mainly doing things he's told by Achilles, Washington or Haytham instead of stepping up and taking charge. My favourite moment is when he tells Washington and Haytham not to get in his way or he'd kill them and I wish we'd gotten more of that. But more often he angrily disagrees and then still does as he's told
Also I liked how in the new remastered version in Achilles house there are the assassin's robes from the previous assassin's even Cassandra's Canon outfit and bayeks. Awesome touch there cause Achilles seems like the type to be a collector for that sort of thing since he was in the brotherhood and highly respected it.
Honestly my biggest issue with the game as a whole was how long the “prologue” took as well as how one you transferred over to Connor, you didn’t inherit much from Haytham, so anyone who spent actual time trying to upgrade Haytham would have been disappointed to find out that after 11 missions (which, considering the main story is 46 missions, this is the first quarter of the game) with him, you have to essentially start over. Granted, I was lucky to have played the game as a child and also it’s just.. obvious through all the promotional material that Connor is the main character, so I didn’t spend much (if any) time trying to upgrade Haytham, but I can still feel for the players who, upon their first playthrough, may have thought either Haytham was the main character or that the upgrades made to him would transfer over to Connor. The only thing in terms of gameplay I had an issue with was the homestead upgrades. But this is due to the fact that I didn’t have much interest in how the upgrades to the homestead worked, mostly because I was so used to the upgrade system from AC 2 through AC Revelations. So it’s entirely my fault, it just wasn’t for me. Finally, there was one other thing that I had an issue with and this was the last mission, Chasing Lee. I just hated that mission so much and sure, every game I’ve played has had one or two missions where I just get so frustrated that I rage quit for a few hours. But what made this one stand out was the fact that it was one of the *last* missions. I’d write more about it but there’s an article online called “Assassin's Creed III‘s Final Chase Sequence Was The Worst Thing I Played All Year” by Kirk Hamilton & that does a pretty good job at summing up my frustrations with the mission.
Masterpiece I’m literally Native American, don’t get offended on other people’s behalf. I visit a reverse often and the more pure blooded peoples are very monotonous.
The only thing that pissed me off about Connor in this game, is that he didn't bother to listen to Haytham when he told that it was impossible that he gave the order to burn the village, or that he even didn't stop to explain to Haytham what happened. That momento would've been a defining moment between Haytham and Connor where both realize they aren't their enemies, Charles Lee is, since Haytham would've realized Charles, Hickey and Johnson went agaisnt his advice and destroyed sacred ground, and Connor would've realized his father was played and that he had nothing to do with the village burning.
I totally forgot about the homestead missions. I knew that we had some settlement like stuff/recruiting a "crew", but I thought ravensthorpe was the first of its kind. I like Valhallas introduction of a settlement and little stories with your people etc etc. but I agree that j wish they went way more into it. Included it as a real side quest akin to the barons story in Witcher 3, with a real arc and story, not just raiding for supplies and some small quests.
I actually quite liked having his personality show more in homestead missions for the reason of they're in a place of peace and family whereas the main story missions are truly that. Missions where like Altair he's focused on the task at hand
My favorite game in the series years later when i found out about the hate it blinded me until i played the remaster and remembered why I loved it so much
AC4 was such a huge step down from AC3 imo. Just take the enemy variety or the cities, for example. Not only that, AC3 was also vastly superior to Brotherhood und Revelations in terms of innovation and content. I really don't get the hate for this game
I have played this game the most. With 5+ playthroughs where i got 100% completion twice and 120+ hours of playing. The game still got some annoying glitches especially in some side missions but it still so fun to play
Ac3 was one of the First Game i‘ve ever Played, it practically made me a gamer and is still one of my favorites (tbh the entire kenway series is just iconic) 💛🧁
I think part of the huge sales success they had was because of Smosh's AC 3 song. It's currently got over 100 million views, but back then it was a huge hit.
Actually, I liked Desmond. And for me it was very sad when I played AC 4 and there was no such good missions in real time, there was, but it's always: "Just walk in this building in that place", which is very very boring. So for me, ending "real time" story was very sad.
We were all also teenagers who grew fond of Ezio, and I use to remember how nobody like Desmond missions but when he was gone the community all of a sudden missed em so idk lol
Did anyone else buy the Connor hoodie back in 2012? I tried to find mine for this video but I lost it 😢 Still love this game! Thanks for watching!
Well, I asked for this video just a couple of days ago in a comment to another AC video of yours!
Of course you must have been working on it for way longer than two days, but still I thank you as if it were a direct answer to my personal request. I'm egotistic like that.
(LOL!)
Thanks for your videos, and for this series in particular!
p.s.
I liked this game a lot, having played it in its original version but when the vast majority of bugs and problems was already fixed.
I always liked both:
- the extended prologue, that to me is a strong point of this chapter among the series' story telling used methods (vs other chapters, I mean),
- and Connor as a main protagonist, as I think he is indeed the perfect central piece of the puzzle for holding the whole thing together (he cannot be some lighthearted kind of character, in a story that is not a joke anywhere and in any way).
Hello Jayvee is the game stopped by levelling if I just wanna play through the story?
Hahaha, yes! I have that Connor hoodie hanging on the coat rack in my room. 😆

As a Nigerian with no connection to American history, the characters story and plot were so well woven that till this day it remains my favorite AC game.
It also got me into US history Lol 😅
Now AC is my favorite not just game franchise but franchise period
Even tho Odyssey was... questionable
I will say AC3 more than any other AC game, made me feel like I could charge in and take on a whole army with my tomahawk and my knife. Connor was a beast
Except when we had an actual mission take place during a huge battle and all we did was sneak around to kill one Templar. That disappointed me as a kid
He sure was a beast when my counter attack would just throw people and not actually kill them
That's because none of the previous games aimed for this, the stealh was more rewarding than rushing into the enemies, and if you did, then you had to be good at the combat, otherwise you'd be in trouble.
You can't climb trees in Valhalla? The hell.

It’s that saga that really had an apocalyptic ending. Such an underrated ending.
I really loved playing AC3. The setting was definitley my favorite of all the AC games I've played.

It was a great story line, but what I hated about that I still can't believe nobody noticed was the walking animations and running animations that Connor has he looks gimped, so I wouldn't say it was a flawless game
Those Homestead missions were one of the best side missions in ACIII
*AC3
absolutely mam, absolutely.
Some of the best in the series tbh.

I miss Desmond :( I think Ubisoft lost the ac feel when they killed him, apart from that, there was something on the original assassins creed (1) that grounded the game to real and mysterious history, something as deep and rich as the plot throughout time between assassins and templars, each time they added some mystical godlike magical theme they departed from that original feel,
Honestly I hate Desmond I feel like if they didn’t include him at all since the start the game would of been better
In the end, they tried to make him Jesus 2.0. A pathetic human sacrifice. That's what we trained him for, folks!
@@harveyshaw6393 Without Desmond Assassin's creed would never exist. The Animus uses genetic DNA from Desmond to access his ancestor's memories and past life without him the Animus wouldn't work he's the key to everything

Syndicate I deleted very quickly.

Ubisoft really messed up the Kenways though. They deserved more. I'm down for a black flag sequel that continues right on when Edward is going to England on jackdaw with Jenny and shows us his tragic ending. I want more edward.
@@sierrachief117 I think we all do but that was so long ago now that I don't think that it would work, but it's nice to think about, Edward was unique

Yup, so true
I feel like it is actually important for you to go out and do the side quests for Connor considering the context of AC being you living out a characters life. I do agree with the stance that he could’ve been written better as well.
People only hates AC3 because the internet told them too. Connor was an honorable character and his drive and honor unfortunately blinded him to alot of betrayals but man he has been my favorite since i first played the game
Everyone was mad he wasn't Ezio and honestly it's so dumb. I'm glad Connor is just his own unique character.
I definitely enjoyed playing as Connor, I always wanted to see him return to the series!
Yeah, he's stoic, but absolutely not a bland character

I'd rather have an AC in the WW1 period, Which would be amazing as I think about it
The homestead missions are perfect they’re a good change of pace after doing nothing but killing everyone it makes Connor feel human
I actually love AC3 its definitely my favorite in the series. I know it's definitely strange having it higher than the Ezio trilogy or black flag. But for me it just works
It just works, as my man Todd Howard once said
You know what was the biggest nail in the coffin for me?
This is actually my favorite assassins creed game
The strong politics plot in 3 makes this game is on my top tier list..
it makes you doubt everything, questioning everyone intention, even sometimes makes you think "are we on the right side in this war?"
i hope more AC games involved more diplomatic drama like this too in the future, cause it's giving the impression that this two faction literally control everything from the shadow
I liked the story for this game. It was pretty good
AC3 was the first AC game and also the first game that has parkour mechanics that I played, and for me it was awesome.
Never ended up happening in Splinter Cell
but they obviously brought the idea into Assasins Creed...
I still go back to Assassin’s creed 3 to this day It does the whole Assassin Templar thing perfectly Connor and Haythams dialogue is perfection.
Had to replay it again after a long break to understand it better 😆
Especially the homestead missions. Got lost track what was going on there. Redoing the whole thing in order made it better.
Same with the brotherhood members we meet, get to know them and perform missions together. Sad future games no longer have that feature.
Now it’s only talk to people on occasions but they do not participate in our journey.
It was the first AC game I ever played, so it was very nostalgic for me. I also loved AC4 to AC Syndicate, but AC3 was really special.
Plus the whole freemason imagery creeped me out
I've always absolutely loved native and american history and to be able to play a character WITH MY NAME FOR ONCE! Huge moment for me ahaha
Syndicate is miles ahead of anything 3 ever was.
@@oh-not-the-bees7872 wrong
I love these AC retrospective videos!
AC3 is the first AC game for me so I couldn't compare Connor to anyone. And for me, AC3 got a great story and characters.
Homestead mission doesn't feel like side missions because it adds dimension to Connor. And the scene where they gave Connor a flag is a tearjerker.
I loved assassins creed 3 it was one of my favorites and I didn’t even realize that anyone disliked it 🤷🏽♂️😅
Yea I feel like Unity is the most hated and my favorite
I feel like the war setting is ultimately underutilized in the story as well
But the open world was great.
And led to some epic chase/escape sequences
You did however have those chase sequences a bit too often though. Guards were intensely aggressive lol
I loved running around the giant map trying to witness the settlers chopping firewood.
This game was definitely one my most favorite games of all time and it is nearly impossible for me to hate on it. Regardless of what anybody says and the nostalgia is too overpowering.
This game was so good!!! Even today, I love to enjoy my time fighting to enemies, its sooo satisfact
He suits more as an Assassin, just like Captain Kenway or, Altair, the father of the Assassins
omg no way i never thought id find you here just after youtube!

@@fjdjckckckck who are you mate
I'll never forget getting this game on Christmas the year it came out and having the time of my life
This game changed the AC games format
Awesome touch there cause Achilles seems like the type to be a collector for that sort of thing since he was in the brotherhood and highly respected it.
jayvee! I love your videos! Great job!
10 months late but if iirc you can take haytham's money in the tavern he stay in
Three reasons I want to play this
1. Assassins creed game
2. Mohawk hairstyle
3. The last Mohican
I wish Connors voice actor used more emotion. He's pretty monitone the whole time
That’s kinda just a Native American thing
@@tristanlambert658 🤦♂️
Masterpiece I’m literally Native American, don’t get offended on other people’s behalf. I visit a reverse often and the more pure blooded peoples are very monotonous.
@@masterpiece5595 Tristan is right
English isn't Connor's first language. When you're speaking a language that you didn't grow up with, you tend to do so in a monotonous tone.
Connor is genuinely a sweet guy once you get to know him. Like a shy but nice bear.
who says it was bad?! it was my first AC game, finished it for like 4001293232 times now. definitely in my TOP3....!
"Was it Really THAT Bad?" Actually one of the better Assassin's Creed games
Well, no
@@kollekciorozsdas6110 well yes
It’s the best one, black flag is a close second.
@@sonn9290 well no, its among the worst ones
@@chrisc3574 its really far from the best
“Many consider AC 3 as the worst game in the series.” Odyssey: Are you sure about that?
I think part of the huge sales success they had was because of Smosh's AC 3 song. It's currently got over 100 million views, but back then it was a huge hit.
Actually, I liked Desmond. And for me it was very sad when I played AC 4 and there was no such good missions in real time, there was, but it's always: "Just walk in this building in that place", which is very very boring.
So for me, ending "real time" story was very sad.
We were all also teenagers who grew fond of Ezio, and I use to remember how nobody like Desmond missions but when he was gone the community all of a sudden missed em so idk lol
