  • After years of searching, the NYRE version of the '84 ball drop has been found (as of 12/31/2019)!
This ball drop was previously uploaded already, but I am uploading the extended version with post-drop celebrations.
    For Cole Warren.
All we need is the ABC version of NYRE '78 and that's all!
Link to the original video: archive.org/de...

1984 is also the year when MTV Video Music Awards began on September 14th, 1984, and it's the longest awards show in MTV history. This year, the 2020 VMAs will be it's 36th year event.

I remember watching this and making an audio tape cassette copy of this edition of DC's NYRE 1984!!!

@@stupstickman I used to. It annoyed my mother big time, especially when I'd audio-tape record shows like SESAME STREET. LOL!!

It hasn't been the same without Dick. He knew how to sell the final five minutes of the old year and the entrance of the New Year. Seacrest is still interviewing B-List singers when there are 10 seconds left.

Seacrest has done a great job of maintaining the show's incredible dominance in a far more competitive environment. You're right, Dick Clark's live play by play approach- to something that let's fact it isn't that interesting- was phenomenal. Did he even have any kind of script in those final 4 minutes? Something written down?

@@mikestevenson576 Seacrest has done a TERRIBLE job continuing this tradition. It's far too pandering to elite scum now. Dick Clark would be heartbroken.

1984 my dad and mom were dating I would be born 10 years later as the baby boy plus Prince dropped Purple Rain soundtrack in the summer , Michael Jackson was still gaining sales for his thriller album that came out in November 82 , r/b funk music was great as ever … 84 was a great year!

40 years. 40. Hard to believe it, but it's true. Here's to a safe and brand new year, of 1984, 40 years ago, from 2024.

This was the first NYE ball drop I actually remember staying up for and watching. I was a couple months shy of my 7th birthday. Since then I've only missed midnight a few times, twice as a kid and once as an adult.

1984 was the leap year starting on Sunday. 1984 was also the year when Ghostbusters came out on June 8th, 1984. Jeopardy became a daily syndicated game show in September 10th, 1984 on most ABC-owned stations such as WABC, WPVI, KABC, KGO, and many more. Super Password began on NBC daytime from September 24th, 1984 to March 24th, 1989.

@Christopher Hagee 1984 was also the final for Cinemax's 1980 logo. Next year for 1985, Cinemax will launch a 2nd logo from January 1985 to August 8th, 1997. Also starting in 1985, Capital Cities/ABC will purchase an ABC affiliated WPVI-TV in Philadelphia , and remained until February 1996 when The Walt Disney Company purchased Capital Cities/ABC, and taking over ABC's parent company and renamed it to Disney/ABC Inc.

I was going to tag you in the videos comment section. By the way, how did you find all those ball drops that you’ve found over the past year and a half? I did see 1975 on archive.com, and 1974 was originally from another UA-camr, but how did you find all the others that you found? I would love to see any drops for Lombardo’s shows if you can find some

I usually look on the Internet Archive. They have some pretty rare stuff on there.

    • @Mikeman-kt4nr
      @Mikeman-kt4nr  4 роки тому +1

Also, Lombardo was broadcast live and was not pre-taped. It is rare to find pre-1980s programming on long forgotten video formats (ex. reel to reel video, U-matic, kinescope, etc.).
Hopefully one day, someone uploads a RARE ball drop from 1965 or 1967 or 1969 or 1971 and so forth. They will be found very soon.

@Christopher Hagee I so remember Jim Varney (as Ernest P. Worrell) doing his thing at Times Square that/those year(s) (1988-1989). He said that he had "one million of his best friends" helping him ring in the new year that night in Times Square. LOL!! :) :) :) :)
