I love how posers hate in things they don't understand... assuming that draculino or anyone above blue belt would use spider guard if it wasn't in a less then ideal circumstances... umm they would use what there opponent gave. Timing, leverage, least amount of effort for the highest amount of return.. Bjj is a flow of connected links. A web or a grid or net.. if you don't know what I'm talking about then your the one in the web. Great video..
If he rolls you can A) follow him up to side control and have a bicep crusher (if legal). Otherwise just take the side. B) Follow him all the way over and see who can roll better, try and grab him with free arm to block the roll. That's all the ones I know so far. If he tries to step over or tucks his opposite arm to roll/spin under then that's a different sequence.
1. i have applied submissions like armbars on concrete in actual fight situations. Unless your one of those guys that wants to rip his shirt off at first sign of a fight then the concrete isnt that bad, not ideal but not bad. 2. By nogi style i mean just grab the wrist. If youve been training for some time your grips are strong enought to hold someone by the wrist. 3. Of course being on your back in a fight isnt what your goal is but if your end up there in a scramble u need to know what to do.
OHH...and i have seen omoplatas in the UFC maybe not recently and in high level bjj normally what happens is people attack with the omoplata and as the person attempts the escape they transition to an arm bar, straight arm bar or maybe even the toe hold that is also there or they use it to sweep. All of those things makes it a very successful move
1. its is not easy to pull of if you are going against skilled opponents and 2. it works exactly the same u can use the same grips on the persons clothe or just do it nogi style if you are at a pool or on the beach or something. This sub has been used many time in MMA (i.e. UFC) where everybody trains and is familiar with these techniques. It would work much easier against an unskilled opponent so i dont understand how u feel it would work any differently if you are on grass, concrete or watever
being on your back on concrete isn't a good idea, but that's kind of the point of bjj. if a fight ends up on the ground, someone who has a bjj background will be comfortable being in a less than ideal situation and can use leverage properly against stronger opponents. spider guard is obviously not as effective in no-gi, but that's like saying "well, a knife is useless if you're 10 feet from your opponent" to argue that it's not an effective weapon. in the right situation, it's VERY effective.
guy on top is a bum if he does not immediately use his free left arm ...once guy on bottom let go of left arm he no longer had spider guard he was just gambling that guy on top would just stay still like a dildo ...this is an old video as it should be ...you let go of my left arm like that at the very least your leg would have been pinned leaving you with spider nothing at all dont care about your rank this is 2020...although i would have countered this way 5 years or more ago as well
"Many times?" I've *never* seen an omoplata pulled off as anything other than a sweep in high level MMA. (hell, nor in high lvl BJJ.) How can one use spider guard "no gi style?" You also realize spider guard isn't exactly a realistic self defense, right? Oh, and if you think turning for armbars or 'platas, etc, is as easy on concrete as a slick, slick mat, you're in for a rude awakening when you actually try one. Being on your back on concrete in a real fight is NOT a good idea.

so much detail. great upload.
GREAT VIDEO. . . GREAT EXPLANATION. . . I WILL TRY TO PRACTICE THIS. . .
The spider guard, the original with grips in kimonos isn't effective, but it has variations, the legs defending someone stand up , is a variation.

Good one! I would like Draculino to be my teacher!
Thanks for explainatating to me. Vid is awesome.
Very nice! i try this in training! (From São luis - MA - Guigo JJ)
@hbkgault
No problem brother, be sure to share the videos where you can, we appreciate the support!
This is great.
THANKS for uploading!!! Also, thanks to BJJ.org on facebook for posting and bringing to my attention.
YES! THANK YOU!
Professor Draculino oooossss!
This stuff is easy enough to pull off in a dojo, but what about on the streets?
Where is Draculino's school?
this looks awesome. does having the leg across the face/opposite leg prevent them from doing the typical front roll omoplata escape?
Does this work if the opponent is on their knees or crouching?
Fodástico !
Nice!!!
thank's
Cant the opponent just roll forward and escape? or what are you doing to prevent that?
looks like a nasty technique though!
The arm would still be trapped. You'd be on your back and easy to armbar, I would think.
Roger Gracie teaches the opposite shoulder roll for the basic omaplata counter. It does work, just a little feel and timing!
Guess youve never heard of Nino Schembri lol
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!!!
The no draculino jus os tre granihg
Can someone tell me the name of the soundtrack in the beginning?
Thank you
