  • This is a continuation of "Mind - The Wild Animal" series, specifically focusing on overcoming sensuality in relation to citta and recognizing the immediate danger in it.
    As mentioned previously, this practice applies only to those who are already firmly established in virtue and have been restraining their senses from intentional distractions and unbeneficial states. Otherwise, any notion of "heart," "body," or "mind" that they hold will not pertain to the true internal physicality of rupa, and thus their citta will remain indiscernible to them.

    Seeing that even if you are well established in virtue and pretty much convinced about its benefits, that doesn't mean that your mind will automatically stop delighting in prospects of sense pleasures and will stop turning against you , will stop pressuring you for not giving it what it wants, is already a step towards the discernment of that separate entity within you. It already lifts a lot of the weight and blame one has for confusing oneself to be that animal that one is paired with. Once that non-identification with that independent entity is established, what remains is the work of remembering and maintaining that discernment and teaching the animal patiently what is best for its own survival.
    But that teaching needs to be done not as a response to the animal biting you and you wanting to avoid the pain, but by enduring the pain, patiently but relentlessly presenting the right context and letting the animal the time to stop on its own terms.
    What a tremendous piece of art such a task constitutes and what a art it is by Ajahn to tease out that recognition from others with the right questioning. Also i sense a progress in the understanding of ven. Thaniyo and sister Medhini. It's a joy listening to. Very powerful and very inspiring.

    Seeing citta as not me but an independent entity is already fruitful, thanks Bhantes

    I miss seeing you all in person. Seeing your facial expressions, the environment, etc. A lot of communication is non-verbal. I trust you’ll take this comment in the kindest light.

    I feel many gratefulness for this "animal" series. Crystal clear Dhamma for former dog, cat and greyhound owner. Sadhu sadhu sadhu...
    Sometimes it looks like, that animal is a dragon. Six headed dragon :) some heads are sleeping, some are seeking for some nutrition, some are thinking "I am main head of all".
    If all heads fall asleep or calm down, animal is temporarily tamed and it is jhana?

    • @HillsideHermitage
      @HillsideHermitage  3 місяці тому +4

      It's only temporarily calm. Jhana is when an animal is UNABLE to be agitated by ANY hindrance.

    • @anka2361
      @anka2361 3 місяці тому

      This unability may appear and disappear?Depending on inner conditions for its arising like seeing a danger of seeking satisfactory in sensuality etc.

      @@anka2361yes the jhana is impermanent but the foundation for it is maintained by proper practice.

    What will be the equivalent of delight in the case of a mind agitated aversion?
    Thank you very much for these videos 🙏🙏🙏

    How do you correctly attend to a mind affected with lethargy, lack of energy. What should one look for? And not give in to?
    Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

    Keep hearing sensations are dangerous and to show the mind all the dangers but I don’t hear of what exactly are all of the dangers.

    • @SBCBears
      @SBCBears 3 місяці тому +3

      The most obvious danger is desire for pleasurable sensations. Seeking to satisfy those desires creates kamma (intentional acts) and that leads to rebirth and that leads to birth, sickness, old age and death. Again and again and again with the immanent possibility of a horrible life or a hellish rebirth. Sensations are a snare.

      It will become obvious once the addiction to it weakens sufficiently (probably takes a couple of years). The immediate viewing of the danger should be taken to be like when you see a hungry bear in front of you in the wild - you don't need a theory nor an explanation (which is opposite of immediate) why it's dangerous, the danger is present immediately and simultaneously with the bear.
