I think you need to see the head on camera position before making a judgement. As I recall, it was a pretty shocking piece of riding by the winning jockey and dangerous.

Astonishing result reversal by today's standards - easily the best horse in the race...
That day, my cousin had a £10 double with a 5/1 winner plus Nureyev. The unjust DQ of Nureyev cost him about £170, about 3 weeks wages.
The Nureyev line is still going strong thanks to Pivotal.

The rules then meant any disqualified horse had to be placed last.

My Uncle looked after Known Fact so was a pleasing result in our family. Tree could have trained Nureyev as well had he not declined Niarchos offer.

The camera just misses the interference that got Nureyev disqualified. You can just see the horse behind him slowing down because of the manoeuvre.
