Being a Michigan of course I had to follow JJ Mccarthy to the vikings. When I was listening to KOC's press conference and he said that JJ was on the field practicing before everyone else. That doesn't surprise me one bit. I'm not going to say that he will be a successful nfl quarterback but I can say with confidence that he will put in the work.
Welcome! Stay. Be a Vikings fan. McCarthy is gonna be a heck of a leader for the Vikings. Come for the ride!
Same here. Lifetime Michigan fan, huge JJ fan. New vikings fan.... but I have zero doubts that JJ is gonna be great
@@kinetik6154 Glad you're here! Skol and enjoy the JJ to JJ connection!
Am I allow to say Skol yet? Or is there a waiting period? Lol I am legit so excited to see JJ have such pr0lific weapons around him. I've been touting the JJ to JJ connection probably to an annoying extent to my friends lol. So hyped for this season
@@kinetik6154let’s get it!! SKOL baby! Man I’m rooting for JJ love that kid
JJ McCarthy weighed in at 219 lbs at the combine and if KOC said he has put on weight since the combine than he must be over 220. Not sure where the 210 is coming from.
He looks it too. I think he could end up in the 225-230 range with his frame and maintain his athleticism and flexibility.
I'm 225 lbs😆
Hopefully was eating the full buffet during his time in the Bahamas!
I think what Dane meant was since the end of the Michigan season
A lot of people think the combine weight was water weight that was going to drop off fast. Some people say that weight was legit.
One thing that makes the greats great is that ability to read defenses. JJ is the guy who is going to study study study. Never allow real life drama to come into his life. No partying and all that nonsense. Your going to see progress from JJ every day and once he gets a full year under his belt with reps and learning he is going to be a great QB. So if the Vikings bring him up right he will be fantastic
It will be a night and day difference from McCarthy‘s first practice to his last practice before the NFL season begins. Don’t forget, he came out as a junior and only played 2 + college, seasons. In major league baseball when a team picks a pitcher in first, they are almost always sent to the minor leagues. Most first round pitchers will start at AA or AAA and then quickly move up if they’re doing well.
Yep. A true junior. Played 11 games as a true freshman. Got his first start week 2 as a true sophomore and never looked back.
The preseason will be his time in AAA. Game one regular season will be his promotion to the majors/starting lineup.
This is one of the videos I've been waiting for. Initial reaction to the rookies. Thanks for making it an interesting, informative, and fun video as well.
This is great info!!! Thank you Matt and Dane
JJ is 100% starting over Sam Darnold week 1. The kid is a psycho. Most confident and driven QB I have seen at Michigan since Brady.
What you want doesn't match reality.
@@Zoyxhow is what he said incorrect?
Tim Brady didn't start till year 3
Give the kid some time to learn
@@IceCubE4425Tom Brady started in year 2...
Slow your roll Pal
I think jj ends up being the best qb in this draft. No doubt. It’s day one of nfl practice. Give him some time to learn and play with the actual teams.
Caleb Williams would like to have a word🤣
🤣🤣 i doubt it lol
He made a bet with his teammates😭😭show his competitiveness
This is how you build confidence in the locker room. Total JJ play.
Jj is a beast. You guys don't have a clue what you got. He will kill it.
This day will always be remembered as the day JJ arrived not the Wolves.
you ended up being right Ron haha
i know preseason games are not cool anymore but i'm really excited to see them this year. i'm hoping JJ gets a standing ovation like Teddy did in the preseason his rookie year vs the cards i believe
If McCarthy fails, he will fail because he can’t process the game. He won’t fail because of physical abilities because he’s got it all and his work ethic is on par with Brady. This is the first time I’ve ever felt confident in a Vikings QB. To me, due to how he is as a person and his situation, his likelihood to succeed is more probable than it is it fail.
I don't even think it would be an inability to process the game. I think it would be getting/staying in his head after a mistake. During his time at Michigan you can see how mistakes affected his gameplay. That being said, I think he was good shaking it off. The interceptions vs. Bowling Green and TCU both showed that he got in his head, made additional mistakes but eventually got over it and came roaring back. In the NFL the competition is WAY more unrelenting. This is my concern.
Thanks for the comment
I like JJ, but it's still 50-50 he ever becomes a consistent long term starter in the NFL.
@@MeMe-in8tj I think it’s a little over 50-50 due to the situation he’s in and who he is as a person/player. A lot of QB’s fail because they’re setup for failure by the organization. That being said, there’s still a good chance he doesn’t work out. We will see. Let’s hope it finally works for us.
Guys Favre threw it hard and coaches said don't worry, we will get guys who can catch the fastball.
He'll be a BUST...IN CANTON!
Lol ok pink warrior, your 49 year old dude sitting on your couch criticizing a kid who has accomplished more in 20 years than you have your whole life
As far as thinking he was putting everything into it in college, remember that from Penn State on in 2023 he was injured and couldn't transfer his weight through his plant leg. Without the ability to use good technique, he would have had to work harder to get the velocity.
this guy has a canon
@@ericcire7709no come on man... It means he has a formal lore around him already... Geesh! 🙄😒
We can always rely on Matt and Dane 😊
6'3" & 219 lbs on the team roster
The Vikings "owe" me those ten S.B....
I absolutely love the comparison to Brett Favre. He used to have a tally in his locker, 4 every player he broke a finger. Not saying that’s cool, but my meaning is JJMC being able to rip the ball with such velocity, he can be a gunslinger like Brett when needed; now 2 control all this power! 💪😈skol🔥
I think the season is going to be fun
Its just kinda hard for me to find excitement with Sam Darnold Potentially starting for a while
My excitement is more in seeing McCarthy’s progression & if he just flat out starts cooking Darnold in practices.
Exactly this. All of the people lauding Darnold or predicting his success are really drinking the hopium and wearing their purple shades. They would absolutely be laughing if the Bears, Lions, or Packers were planning to play the season with Darnold as their starting QB.
Haven't even started the episode and all I can hear is Matthew saying "he looked like a rookie in rookie mini-camp, let's not read too much into this..." *continues to discuss*
Try starting the episode before telling me what I'm about to say.
This man just lost all credibility when he said he would toss a fade to rudy gobert... That man has hands of stone.
You can’t say that. Harbaugh trains his players for the nfl. Quarterback is a lot different than defensive end. Your drafted in the first round as a d end your supposed to start day one. At qb it’s different. You want a qb to sit and learn a lot more. He’s the focal point of the offense. Instead of a cog in the defense. A d end won’t be ruined playing right away. A qb can be ruined by playing him from the get.
I see Crusaders butthurt! Lol
The film I remember about Dallas Turner is him slamming JJ's head and body into the ground in the rose bowl.
After JJ made a one handed catch of a lateral then without the laces completed a pass downfield….. probably the best play in the Rose bowl
JJ was just a little excited today
Virgin blog boys finally realizing what Michigan Fans knew 3 years ago.
Curious how the learning curve for Darnold is going
i would honestly not rush him in it wouldnt be the smartest thing to do in my gm couch opinion just give the boy time to see the real time speed of what is going on week to week he will study more but like i said what do i know just food for thought only fools rush in.
Thoughts on McBride?
Please give him short yardage! Then he'll win the job if he can catch
I think you have 3 levels of ready coming out of preseason
Not ready yet
Ready yes, but we want more work done
He's ready and he's the guy
I think he looked a lot better than you're making it sound. He hasn't played in months and he's playing with guys that will be cut or practice squad members at best. JJ will be the week one starter.
You didn't see one second of practice, how the heck would you know?
@@PurpleInsider that's false, but ok

QB #2

Which one is JJ and which one is Kirk Cousins?
Without google, take your best guess.
Unless you know where each player was born, this would be tough.

👍
I’m interested to see how Darnold fares in this QB friendly system and all the support you’re talking about for JJ. We may find that Darnold’s previous teams failed him and not the other way around. It sure looks like he has all the tools.
You can't coach performance under pressure. All the physical tools in the world won't save Darnold. He sees ghosts and cannot read the field when stressed. Throws a bunch of picks and stalls out drives as a result. Not a competent starting QB in the NFL no matter what systems are put in place to help him. Some things just aren't fixable.
Really? Rich Gannon, Drew Brees , Geno Smith just to name a few! Glad your not a scout or coach, dude is better than the shit he played for!
Hi Matt
Wish he could wear #10
Okay
Sam Darnold will start wk 1.
Sam Darnold, as a starter is average at best. Why would the Vikings want to waste a year with an average quarterback unless, of course, he exceeded all expectations. There will be a competition between the two the winner will start. There is no doubt in my mind, if McCarthys ready he will be the starting QB!
@weelgunny Darnold would have to grow a lot to become an average NFL QB. Average is his absolute ceiling. Lot of purple shades with some fans around Darnold. If another team was talking about starting Darnold, our fans would be laughing their asses off. If JJ doesn’t start it means he is trending in the wrong direction or KOC is refusing to start the best player. (Like Chandler and Mattison last season.)
@jeffmanty6721 no
@@intrepidfoolYou're not very smart.
@@DerrickRG Thanks for sharing your insightful comment. Really added to the discussion.
Anthony Edwards could play RB in the NBA today.
At least TE
Oh...Bull...he won't be starting ... he'll sit and learn
...and well he should
Parabola lol 🫡
Thank you
TJ missed most of camp with an "ear infection" last year and he had a rough start to the year, so Jefferson missing camp could get him off to a bad start too. That's good or bad depending on how you want to look at it. I wouldn't mind seeing the Vikings lose about 12 games this year because they should be eyeballing 2025 as when they start being competitive again. Use 2024 to load up one more time. Because how competitive can they really expect to be in 2024? I don't want to see them eek out meaningless wins just to finish with 8 or 9.
Kinda disrespectful the kid had a life changing type injury
Reading your reaction when JJ was mentioned said enough. You didn’t seem impressed
Lol ok 🤡
you're going to need to work on your read-and-react skills.
JJ better QB than Goff and JJ hasn't even played a regular season game yet
PS2 Madden aka when madden was Good
100%
Cousins didn't light up a decent Flores D last year. JJ on this D has to be taken with a grain of salt
this was rookie minicamp, they weren't running Flores' entire defense
Right, but they are gonna
Unfortunately fans want Superbowl results immediately and that's when staffs destroy a guy's career. Tossing them to the wolves right out of college at 21 years old is not what you do when you want to have a stud franchise QB that will win you Superbowls. JJ has been a winner everywhere and I don't believe anything is going to change with that. Except when y'all play the lions. Than you can lose lol
Lewis was an obscene draft pick
of all the rookie QBs he looked the worst: shaky balls / 3 plus misthrows / pick 6 pathetic meanwhile the rest throwing dimes go look at the Penix film I wonder of Vikes would have taken Penix if ATL didn't beat them to the punch lol
JJ is better than Darnold. He will learn better by playing than by sitting on the bench. KOC isn't an idiot. Therefore McCarthy will be starting sooner rather than later.
Modern Madden is a broken piece of trash.
Your guest was the guy that was knocking jj and Dallas draft day because Dallas said they will go to war for each other and he doesn’t like that term war “it’s not his thing”. This dork doesn’t realize he wouldn’t be here talking about football if it wasn’t for the men who fought wars for our freedom to be here talking about football. Guy on the right, please show some respect
I really hope this is a joke
@@jgiza8888 Well, to address why this is ridiculous, Dane wasn't making any political statement when he said that, he was saying that if he was a player and the leader of the team referred to playing a game as "going to war" it wouldn't resonate with him but that it does with other guys. I think y'all heard a phrase and made a lot of assumptions about what was actually being said
@@jgiza8888 For context, they were talking about leadership qualities in the qb and Dane has always conceded that JJ comes off as a good leader. Second, the purpose of Dane's comment was to state that players buy into JJ, the whole war thing was a super brief aside. He wasn't even criticizing Dallas' comment. But I get it, it's election year, everyone wants to make a big deal out of a big load of nothing.
Dane is a smart person who realizes that football and war should not be equated because of the magnitude of war. That is showing respect to the people who have actually been at war. I'm sorry you did not comprehend what he was saying
@@PurpleInsiderI get it your perspective. That comment did get me a bit. I have a very personal perspective of people who have lived and died by war. And they would do what they needed to win for the person next to them. THE ULTIMATE LEADERS. I think the same mentality and leadership in football or any profession is a strong thing that should be embraced.
Jj is a bum
He is the bust of the draft along with Caleb Williams 😂😂
Penixx will be the best qb out this draft
You're a bust 😎 dude
I guess we will find out in 3-5 years when Penix finally gets his shot.
Penix will be the worst of these QBs...Easily....I want to see what he does when it's not a single high safety look
You sound like a Crusader dude! Lmao
When McCarthy can't set his lower half, it's game over. His noodle arm is masked, at times, by his full body mechanics.
There's no noodle arm at 60 mile a hour throw
@@dinodesart8396 watch literally every single snap he took in college where he couldnt get his base set and had to rely on his "arm talent".
Jj mccarthy sucks. Most inaccurate QB to ever go first round
Pffft. Back this claim up with numbers.
Oh dear…
JJ looks like he was inaccurate in practice. I do understand it’s practice and might have jitters. I am just keeping it 100. I wish him well he best, love his release but I just don’t see it, YET.
