The final days of the WeatherStar4000 in Canada. In Kingston it was replaced with the PMX about a month later in early September 1997 as I recall. I cannot believe this was 20 years ago, as always great videos and thanks for sharing. The Weather Network was much better television when it was still based in Montreal back in the 90s. I used to have lots of videos myself of Morning Report / Sea To Sea segments from 1997 and 1998 but sadly I recorded over all of them about 15 years ago... wish I hadn't done that :(
Yeah, and not only did it vary from city to city, I think it also depended on the cable provider as well, as one could have the PMX where the other may still have the WeatherStar 4000, both reporting from the same airport.
These were the days!!!!! I know I'm sounding a bit repetitive but the TWN that's on today does not even compare to the TWN I grew up watching 10-20 years ago This TWN actually gave you an in-depth analysis of the weather no hype no gimmicks and the one thing I liked about it especially There was no repetitive loop and very few commercials The TWN that comes on now is very commercialized 3 minute Local Forecast (which crams way too much in) 3-4 minutes of commercials which leaves 3 minutes for rushed segments and adding to that repetitive loop which makes today's TWN mostly unwatchable unless it's STORM WATCH I love these videos brings back such great memories!!!! Post more of these if you can.
We all have different purposes in life at different times... maybe yours was saving the world one person at at time, and mine was to record The Weather Network! lol!
Yeah - not only that they did the weather forecasts live back then and could also create bloopers on both channels when something went wrong - I don't really see any live segments now as they pre-tape their segments except for major events. Sad state of affairs today...
Wow, STAR 4000 still in August 1997? When did your region get the PMX? Considering that they started to use it for the Traveller's Forecast and a few other segments around this time in the master control room, it must have been getting pretty close...
Wow, not long before they moved out of Montreal. I guess I was a late switcher myself - probably got mine around then or slightly before, not sure exactly when. I know some cities got theirs sooner (even in 1996) before gradually rolling it out through the rest of the country.

Those were the days! I completely agree with you! Hind sight is 20/20 isn't it? lol!

I certainly will... I found a few more from this time period. I'm happy with my younger self for recording TWN!
Now..... I am mad at my younger self for not recording it especially with what is going on with the TWN today.

We got it in the Spring of 98, so end of March or early April 98.

Wow! I didn't realize some cities got it as early as 1996! I will always miss STAR 4000! lol!
Timmins Ontario I believe skipped from the WS3000 right to the PMX in March 1996
Probably before then too (still 1996 though), but not without all the technical glitches the WS3000 in Timmins had.
