I've done a few of these and like the legs you made. Mine have a lid which opens. I make a 1x4 frame around the top and join the boards (with a biscuit joiner) together to create the lid and attach it to the frame with a piano hinge.
I tried a few different legs and these were my favourite, found these to be the most sturdy whilst also retaining the whiskey barrel style, rather than blocks of wood. Ah! nice one! I thought of a few ways to utilise the storage space, I'll have a few more videos to upload as we explore the different storage options! Thank you for sharing! I had not heard of a biscuit joiner until now!
Thank you! Haha yes! I have to let the stain fully absorb and dry before moving on, it's a transition for you viewing but a full 24 hours (sometimes longer!) to me
I use deck stain on the sanded wood, once dried I use heavy duty PU lacquer, gives it a nice rich colour. You could change the colour by changing the deck stain, hope this helps!
Thank you, from my experience it works great! Just like paint it provides a coating to prevent moisture getting into the bands. Make sure to use the heavy duty PU lacquer as I haven’t tested others yet. I like to see the age in the bands and the unique patina they develop.
Thanks for sharing. The WD40 is great advice
Learnt it from making many mistakes! it can really save a lot of work!
Excellent. Some great suggestions there. Thanks
Thank you Dave, made my day

Great video! It had only been a couple of seconds to me, but had it really been 24 hours for you?!

Great job. I’ve got a question. So the lacquer keeps the metal rings from rusting? As I noticed you didn’t apply any paint to the rings right? Cheers.

@@BEARMOUNTAINMedia thank you for your answer. I’ll try in one iron peace that I’ve got here and see how it goes.
