Stained Glass For Beginners - Honeycomb
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- We're making a honeycomb out of stained glass today! I recently got in a beekeeper suit and checked out the bees and their honey right up close which gave me the inspiration to create this stained glass honeycomb for today's project. We will be doing only straight glass cuts (no curves) so if you are beginners to stained glass, this will be great as your first project. Keep it small if you're just starting out or add a few more pieces if you want a larger piece. Either way, there are lots of variations to be creative with this stained glass project!

I'm a beekeeper with three hives of my own. As soon as I saw this project I just had to give it a go as a novice glass cutter. I'm delighted with the results - one finished in copper and the other in black patina. The bees haven't expressed an opinion of my work - they are too busy hitting all the early flowering plants at the moment. Keep the ideas and challenges flowing.
Bee keeping seems super interesting and I would keep them if I had a place of my own. I'm happy you made your own honeycomb! Thanks and keep the bees busy 😁🐝
How many hexagons did you make?
@@dst1311 I can't remember exactly, but it will have been about 10 - 12.
This is literally the best beginner video I've seen for stained glass ever on UA-cam
I really love this pattern. My husband is a beekeeper and I think this will be my first project when I start stained glass 🥰
Great informative videos. A tip when grinding glass or tile using a stone - place a thin sponge in a container slightly larger than the grinding stone with the stone sitting on the sponge, fill with water to just cover the stone. Dip the pieces of glass in the water before grinding. This will help to keep the glass or tile sand particles getting into your lungs.
Great tip will do that next time. Thanks!
Thought that as well. #safetyfirst !
This has me wanting to start a new hobby. This is beautiful!
same here!

The straightedge and compass construction makes my mathematician heart happy. 😍
Thank you! This was very easy to follow and very informative! I bought some pre cut, pre foiled hexagons on etsy to just dip my toe into stained glass. You made the process a lot less intimidating! 🎉
I am so intrigued by this! I so want to get into stained glass art. Thank you for the video! Can’t wait to try it!
Awesome. This looks almost therapeutic, definitely gonna give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
i’ve been looking through so many stained glass videos and how-to’s and even the faux ones, this is one is by far the best, you actually tell us what you’re doing and how to do it, every other one i find on here is faux, so your channel is definitely a step in the right direction👏🏼
Awesome video. My first stain glass beginners video. Thank you so much!
soooooo satisfying, i actually watch this video for my school assigntment but i love thissss
That was a great beginner video. You stuck to the project, gave a clear view of what your working on.
Thank you
The cutting of the glass sounds so soothing to me
Makes me ill😢 I’ll have to wear earplugs while trying it out
This is what inspired me to get into stained glass! I'm currently starting a piece just like this to see how I like it!
I just got back from the store with my new supplies. thanks to your channel!!
Thanks for simplifying this design! Extremely helpful, thank you👏👊☕️
Jeez! Give us a minute to savor and admire the finished piece!!!
You’re so talented! Wow! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this DIY! The final piece is gorgeous!
Thank you! I'm glad you like it 🥰
I have never seen a stained glass DIY project, this video is awesome
I’ve always wanted to try my hand at stained glass. I’ve watched all your videos, I’m getting the tools for my birthday and I’m taking the plunge!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I want to get into this craft! 💛🧡🧡
This project is too cute! Love amber glass ✨
I love that krrr sound when cut the glass.. so satisfying. 🥰🥰
I love your videos so much! I've always wanted to get into stained glass and I finally (on a whim) bought all my supplies and began with a project that was definitely not a beginner project ha but your videos are a wonderful help and inspiration!!
Thank you!! Sometimes you just gotta go for it! 😆
I'm ready to begin myself, but absolutely clueless about how to start. Tools, etc.
I have several kits to choose from with a matrix to help decide. Stainedglassdiy.com/shop
Thank you again. I’m excited to eventually begin!
Great project thanks, being an amateur entomologist it was fitting to do. This was my first ever project (maybe a bit complicated for a first) so it didn't turn out perfect but it still looks great to me. I learnt many valuable lessons, how to cut a straight line, why you stick to the inside of the line, why you use the same sized glass( I added clear 2mm to my coloured 3-4mm and this made soldering very tricky). Love your videos and I bought a lot of my tools/equipment based on your videos. Thanks.
Fantastic and informative video for a person who has no clue. Your work is fantastic. Thank you
I love this!!!
Wow that is really cool and easier than I expected, great video thank you
Awesome tutorial 🌟Great looking project🐝
Appreciate your creative eye in beginners pieces woot woot 🙏🦉
Such a great video! I learned a bunch. Thank you.
Really great video, I appreciated the step by step directions thank you.
I did this style of stained glass in high school art class 2006. Looks easy to get back into. Thanks!
Welcome back!!
I love your tutorial, thank you 🐝🍯
This is amazing I really like your work and I hope to try it sometime
I want to learn to do this. It was so beautiful. Thank you for that.
it's beautiful!!
Beautiful work of art👍🏻😻
Just had my first leadlight class today! Was as fun as it I imagined it would be watching your videos :)
Your diys are awesome! I hope you get more subscribers ☺️🙌🌿
I'm just ordering my tools and actually this looks like it will be my very first project. I'm excited, thanks for the video and keeping it simple. ❤😊
Amazing...Thank you!
Its beautiful
Very nice.. great clear instructions ❤
Dude...I.LOVE.HONEYCOMBS! Very good video! Good timing on this one! I recently got a partial sleeve of one lol.
Thanks man! I gotta see this sleeve 😎
This is a very nice tutorial!
Lovely - very well explained :)
This is fantastic, thank you so much
You are so awesome and a very good teacher as well! I love watching your videos!
Thank you Diane! You're too kind :)
Excellent videos! You inspired me to start making glass projects. I never even soldered before and I just completed my first 3 glass pieces, #1 was this honeycomb. I bought a bee bevel cluster from Delphi glass and soldered that to the honeycomb (because I'm a beginner and can't cut around the bee yet). I sent you pics on FB. I'm happy to say my projects came out surprisingly great for someone doing it for the very first time. Turns out I love soldering. Who knew?! Anyway, thanks for putting all this out there and helping people discover a new art form. Watching you do this made me think I could do it too and I'm glad I gave it a shot. Thanks a million.
Thanks for the kind words and I couldn't be happier to hear about you starting your journey 🤩
Wow, I'm so excited to see this video. Easy to follow for newbies. Beautiful job and you did a great job listing items needed for project. You made it look so easy. Thanks so much for sharing your talent, skill and knowledge. Friends from Florida!
Thanks I hope you give it a try!
@@StainedGlassDIY Glad to see you're on top of your video. Unfortunately, Amazon no longer has the start-up kit above:( Also, there was no mention about how expensive buying the glass can be or best places to buy it. Do you have any experience with buying any of these items at Harbor Freight or Hobby Lobby? Really appreciate your response:)))
Bro that's amazing!
Great idea, loved the bee smoking introduction! Nice color selection!
Isn't it fascinating that you can pick any color glass and it always just looks good?? I don't think you can go wrong ever 🤩
@@StainedGlassDIY I had a Victorian window I built many years ago which had a circle in the center. I cut out the circle and it was just wrong, so I cut a different circle and that didn't work, I finally cut a third and settled on it..but it still wasn't perfect. That was my hardest color match problem, But you're right, most of the time glass just looks great, which is what makes it such a good art form!
@@GommStainedGlass Ah color matching to a restoration would probably be tough. But in my case, when I have a hard time deciding on colors, I try to remember that it's glass and it'll most likely look great in any color! Now I wanna go get more glass 😆🤣
Besides the 3 feathers video, this has to be my favorite!
Super) Nice glass for honeycomb
I just bought some bee fabric to make kitchen curtains. I think this will be a perfect match. It will be my first time trying this.
Amazing
Can’t wait to make this. #yanggang 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🧢
Beautiful 😍
Tried my first piece after watching your videos! It came out great!!!!!
It wasn't so bad right??
This is amazing. Thank you
Glad you like it!
Your videos are great --- thank you!
🥰
Thank you for sharing 🤟
i love this video...i am going to do this with squares of many colors!
Thank you for this beginner video.
You're welcome 😄
You inspired me to give stained glass a try. It’s something I’ve always wanted to learn but you helped me to get started! I need to find a local place to find good glass.
Anyways, I finished my first project yesterday. I made this honeycomb for my sister for her birthday. She collects beehive Knick knacks so this was perfect for her. She loved it!! I wish I could share my project with you but I’m not sure how.
Imgur and then post the link
Sounds like the perfect gift! I'm on IG or you can email too stainedglassdiy@gmail.com I'd love to see it!
Good idea, good color composition, good artwork.
Thank you so much Eddy!
I love Stained Glass and want to get into it :)
Why is it so much fun , just watching ?!?
: D
Thank you
I made one! I love it 🤩
That's awesome! 🙌
Nice 👍
Great teacher
I wanna try now
gooooood~!
Very nice
Thank you for posting this! As a beekeeper looking to enter the stained glass business I appreciate it! :)
Beekeepers are always welcomed!
Neat project
I love it..I personally would just have same colors always touching
Might be a project to try
With all the extra triangles you ended up with I cant stop thinking about lil triforce stained glass
I got LOTS
They are beautiful and awesome.:-):-D
The more i see your videos, the more I fall in love with this amazing art!!! You're my inspiration to perform such an amazing art!!!
By the way, have an amazing trip in Japan, my favourite country!!!
Thank you so much!!
Finally took the plunge and bought all my supplies! What type of chain do you use for hanging your pieces? And are the jump rings 6mm?
Any chain from any craft store will work. Also the jump rings can be any size as long as it fits the chain
Nice! I cut glass but never tried to do any stains glad work, it's on my future. Regarding cuts, I noticed that you might not be keeping the cutting wheel pressure the same toward the end of the cut making some cuts require sanding to correct. It might help if you pull the cutting wheel toward you instead of push it away from you. The first impression on the glass typically stays more even when you pull, while pushing tendencies are lighter as the hand goes away from your body. Just a possibility that might work for many. It's all about the cut with glass crafting.... best wishes love the vid. Cant wait to get stained glass!
Is it really as easy as it looks? It's so bee-utiful!
Oh I'd love to visit Japan
Beers are awesome
😋
Your channel is so cool and inspiring! Thank you very much!
A little question, thoiugh: are you keeping those cutoff tiny pieces for some sort of mosaic-ish projects or just discard them?
I'd say keep them for future projects. I just found out they are actually worth something!
וואו איזה מלך :)))
Bonus for those little triangles, you can make a small stained glass Triforce
Do you have any videos on making floating frames? I work with pressed flowers and want to learn how to solder a frame together, also the sound of the glass cutting and snapping are so satisfying hahaha
This looks so good!!! Thank you for sharing this process! I really want to try this now 🤩🤩🙏
Cool, guess I’ll do this for my pc design
This is like asmr
I just made this and it turned out great! What size chain did you use?
Fantastic! I don’t know the size of the chain but will make a note next time I purchase some more.
I wish a bit longer was spent on the copper edges part not sped up, so we could see how to do the corners. Otherwise good video though would be interested in giving a try. Final piece looks great!
I love how you select your colors:
“Not this one! “ TOSS🙂
“that’s not even AMBER!” TOSS🙂
“”This WON’T WORK, But Let’s Keep it!” 🙂
We should All have this much fun with Stainglass! This has been a very helpful video and I am going to keep it for future reference. I love listening to you because you have such a calming voice and you are very excellent teacher!! I look forward to more videos from you and I thank you for your time!!!!! You answered a question number of questions I have had tonight in this video, so I am SUPER HAPPY❣️❣️❣️
Which brand of patina would you recommend? We just made some small Piet Mondrian paintings in stained glass but we haven't added the patina yet. We want a really nice dark black for these.
