My late father's second XJ6 was also a 1973 model - a 4.2 litre in pale blue with dark blue interior, it was fitted with electric windows and aerial which was a big thing back in those days. Your video brings back many memories... the dials, the large buttons in the centre dash, even the one on the far right to switch fuel supply from the left to right tank!
What a splendid - and rare car. You brought back many memories as we had a 1973 Series 1 VDP as well, finished in Morello Cherry with Chamois hide. Superb, sensual cars.
This car, when launched in 1972, set new standards for refinement, ride quality and performance in a luxury car that weren't beaten until the 1980 Mercedes 500 SEL.
@@richlee509 Only the Jaguar XJ series 3 look good, in fact it's the best looking car ever forever, 12 out of 10. Series 1 and even 2 look old and bulky, it's what I call a cauldron... Sure is better then an old Wartburg or old Volga, but still a bulky cauldron... SL 500 1971 was not a couldron and look more modern, but not realy elegant either.
My father had one of these in Amethyst. It was a lovely drive and was a reliable car. Eventually it rotted away in a barn after his retirement but I saved an have kept the dash board which was rather special and some other interior trim. Regret letting it go now.
Left hand ignition key. I am left handed and that is a first for me. It pisses me off how manufacturers of everything only think of right handed people. Just look at your cell phone, all the buttons are to be pressed with your right thumb !!!

Short but oh so sweet ! I drove these new and just took them for granted . But looking back .....what a priviledge !
I so use to love my Daimler series 2 4.2 in Egypian sand with a black vinyl roof tan leather seats .. it cost me £50 a week in petrol then in 1988
Egyptian sand ? Could it have been siversand ? Vinyl roof ? Vdp ?
Or harvest gold 👍😀🇫🇷

No comparison on the looks though
@Glenn Cumbria I’d still rate the xj6/12 of that era to have a smoother ride than the merc , some of down to the high section (70 ) tyres

@@muckle8 It has.
Looks lovely inside.... Would love to have seen more of the car
Must be one of the best bonnets in the world to look over.

I have the last series of Double Six from 1996 with the long wheelbase, but I have always wanted an additional Series I Double Six.
Maravillous Daimler.....
Ah! A revisit .......haven't changed my mind !💕
" whisper quite "
Very nice…
The only things we’ve seen are the gauges and the steering wheel.
Nice dashboard. Was there a car attached to it?
nice dashboard that's what matters
