Well, here's the best concert I've ever attended and recorded. This band blows my mind. I'm so fortunate to have been able to witness this absolute behemoth of a performance from Los Angeles' Sprain. They're unreal. A rare, rare anger. A ravaging force to be reckoned with.
I apologize for any shaky shots during the calmer parts, which is unconventional for my style of shooting. I was somewhat malnourished, a bit drunk, and I could barely hold my arms up after all that vigorous, intentional shaking in the first half of the show. Hence why there's a montage of some airplanes I recorded on Venice Beach the next day. I had to rest and fully take in the magic that was happening on stage, anyways.
This will most likely be my last video for a while. I'm finishing my senior year of university, so I oughta focus on that and finish strong. Who knows, things may change. Here's a big one. I hope you enjoy.
Please support the band.

Special thanks to UA-cam users @DecayToDeath @thecrazyn00b2 and @trustblinks for their audio recordings of the show.
This was recorded and published with the band’s consent.
lyrics to new song (please reply if you have a correction!!!)
Powerful
After ___(?)
And I wanna break down on ___(?)
To generate rhythm (if you're sick of my voice...?)
I want every brother and father
To place down, my hand on my chest
Replace, replace, replace, replace
Please don't feather me, Idaho
When you speak to me, it sounds like this
I work all through the day
First and foremost, I'm a gentleman
I shut every window in my house
And live further into delusions
It's not abnormal
There's nothing unusual about it
I'm not
I'm not
I'm not
I will love you
And you will still leave this world
In your exit-wound fashion
Why don't you marry me?
Why don't you prove to the both of us
There's something there?
And I swear to put to rest
The moral posturing of song
I will fold around you
I have tried to loosen your grip
The flesh I ate away
That has left a stain ___(?)
(?)
(?)
You put a hole straight through my head
Your horse fell to its knee
I have no words
I have no words
I have nothing
And I will not cry
Not in front of you
Or else I'd be
Like a coward
Like a coward
Like a faggot
Like a woman
And I'm tired
I love you
I do
You’re goated for this. Personally, i hear “please don’t bury me in Idaho” but the rest seems accurate
This might be the closest anyone ever gets to an actual transcription of the lyrics, thank you
This not being studio recorded and not being a fully released track is the travesty of this century.
for the 3rd paragraph i hear things much differently:
i will love you
and you will still leave this world in your miserable fashion
why don't you give in?
why don't you prove to the both of us that there's something that i've been missing?
i swore to put to rest the moral posturing of song
i grew cold around you (unsure of this)
i have tried to loosen your grip
(?)
but it's left a stain upon me
the negativity
and everything i see in you
but you put a hole straight through your head
and the universe (flow 'til we sleep? slow 'til we see it? unsure what he says here)
i have no words, i have no words, i have nothing
thank you so much. I've been trying to figure these out forever. my favorite track on the setlist
I AM NOT THIS MAN I AM IN FACT SOMETHING VERY VERY VERY DIFFERENT
48:23 That "What's so fucking funny?" felt so demented and personal
I liked how he immediately broke out of character (while still in character)
They really Flensed the fuck out of this one
She Flenses on my Sprain till I Lamb.
Watched the whole set in one sitting with my cat :)
I know people compare this to Swans, but, having seen Swans live and obviously not Sprain, I feel that Sprain's shows were more deranged: I feel danger, unease, anxiety, whereas with Swans it's something more hypnotic, free form but rational. This is manic and worringly good.
Thanks for this beautiful recording and greetings from Romania! 🇷🇴
i did the exact same thing, my cat loves it surely. i do, and i love my cat. so why wouldn’t he. he gets it, he’s cool
Any band would be lucky to have as dedicated a filmmaker in the audience as you. Fantastic recording of such a fantastic band, love all the intimate closeups you got.
Thank you :)
You can’t tell in this video but when Alex did the monologue on God or whatever you call it the whole room was still and terrified like looking at a car crash, people only laughed cuz it was almost a defense mechanism at something so absurd, it was a one of a kind experience. Amazing show
yeah tbh i was paralyzed cuz i couldn't help feeling a little like i was enabling an act of self-harm...asked him afterwards if he was okay (gesturing on my head at the region where his own was still covered in dried blood) and he said "oh yeah, happens all the time". powerful as a piece of performance art, but i'd be lying if i wasn't at least a tiny bit worried. hope he doesn't ever seriously injure himself during a performance and that the self-expressive coping mechanism stays on the healthy side of the fence.
saw an old lady ask if he was ok and he said yeah. she told him don’t do it again and he said okay lol.
I like the band but it also hits a painful spot at the moment…my hearing maybe? 😂🤘🏽😋🙏🏽🍀
Almost decided to take shrooms before attending lol
@@psrlrd7512you would’ve ascended, or just had the worst night in your entire life
This is the best concert I’ve ever been to, probably the best on I ever will go to. Definitely the loudest thing I’ve ever heard irl, it was like watching a plane crash in slow motion
the greatest piece of art ever created, i cant understate how perfectly this performance resinates with me.
Came back here after the announcement. Even more so now, this is a national treasure. Thank you.
I’m sad
i'm fucking gutted. this album is incredibly special
What Announcement?
EDIT: Nevermind I remember now
That version of God Or Whatever You Call it is chilling
YOU DON'T THINK THAT I WILL DO IT
The Reclining Nude goes so hard. I'll miss these guys.
him saying lyrics from the og sprain ep (i took my dog to put her down she wagged her tail the whole way there) at the end of the god or whatever you call it monologue is soooo sick
One of my favorite parts of the whole performance
I love how you can hear the surprise in the crowd when he says they only have two more songs to play, but there’s still another hour of footage left on the video 😂
A friends and I have held off on watching this Goliath of a set for a little while we we finally found the time to sit-down and watch it, and in awe we were astonished by what we saw. Anger, Bliss, guilt, suffering a solace in its most pure form, expressed by Sprain and perfectly captured on tape like no other live set had been captured. This whole-heartedly was one of the most stunning a beautifully filmed live sets I've EVER seen. My jaw was dropped in disbelief in what I was seeing being captured, visuals I have never seen filmed in a live set. This video captured history while heightened everything that Sprain performed and god will i ever cherish this video for the rest of my days
Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad it had a profound impact on you :)
it definitely did!!! :)@@lambbuttons
What I think is really cool is that during the rant at the end of god, or whatever you call it, around 48:35, the way the camera looks makes him look blind as if his sight was taken during his conversation. Really cool effect whether it was intentional or not
Oh yeah that’s just what night vision does to eyeballs under the right conditions
2:02:31 these vocals sound like something straight from a xiu xiu album. reminds me of how horrifying "girl with basket of fruit" was. i had a physical reaction of terror and unease. this is what music is supposed to do; make you FEEL it
Sprain: A Musical
There should have been a little bouncing ball that went from lyric to lyric as they were sung.
Genuinely might be one of the gratest performances ever recorded. God or whatever you call it is one of the greatest songs in a long time!
i cant hold back my tears when watching this, thank you for documenting such an important piece of art, and creating art. thank you a million times
Topped Swans for the best live performance I've ever seen. Thank you for uploading!
Thanks for all the love y'all
dude all about this video is amazing, it's scary, it's beautiful, it's ethereal. It's not only the band and the music, you did a great job directing it. you are the official channel to the now lost sprain experience. It's like a legendary bootleg now
completely in agreement with this
This is up there with the Fishmans live album for me
privilege of being opening the set and its outro absolutely FLOORED me and the whole venue :) very happy and grateful this was documented in full
This recording is a kind of standalone art piece, whether you like the music or not but also very fitting to the mayhem…i think i like Sprain…
the things i would fucking do to see man proposes god disposes live. holy shit, i'd be shitting myself
i was so obsessed with it for months that i kept watching my recording of it. was so happy when they finally released it.
Im sure we all know the images and feelings about fantasizing what itd be like on stage in front of hundreds or thousands in front a crowd, singing our favourite songs. The certain feelings or ways to convey those songs that one might feel when having these thoughts, and i think youve done such a good job getting into this headspace of the singer. This is especially apparent, at least to me, during God, or Whatever you Call it.
Thank you :)
You captured the personality of their music so perfectly. Such an incredible video and a gift to those of us who haven’t been able to see them live!
to be able to see all the intricacies that goes into this adds so much to the effect of the sound. i’m so grateful this video is a thing, i haven’t felt this way about a piece of music in a long time. maybe never this directly inspiring to unabashed self expression. i just love it so much it’s made me tear up. what a beast of an album and performance. i’ve never seen experimental music executed in a way so directly sincere except for shit maybe like the residents. but even then this gets bold. my cat liked it too. also the recording and editing is just as artistic and i can tell really understands the band and everything they’re going for, amazing. ultimately all of this means a fucking lot to me, to be challenged by art can be the most rewarding, validating and comforting thing. but it’s weird too, it still comes with insecurities latched on. there’s always people who will disapprove and judge on a surface level. and fuck em, ya know? make them feel uncomfortable, make me feel uncomfortable. make everyone a little worried. to fight through the disapproval by straying even harder into what you think is true to yourself and contrasting whatever the fuck bothers you with challenging art is just more profound than any words. art is such a weird thing, i don’t understand it, but i can’t stay away from it. does anyone even understand art? anywhoo, nice sounds
I want to take a minute to apprecieate how demented but perfectly fitting the videography and editing choices are in this video. Creative stuff!
Thank you !
One of the best albums of the decade
Of all time, in my opinion
well. thank you for the incredible music, sprain
I live on the East Coast and couldn’t attend so you’re actually the greatest
Me too. I’m from Georgia
here after the announcement - thank you for capturing this
This is one of the most exceptionally filmed live performances I've ever seen. Fantastic job with the camerawork
Thank you !!!
Continuing the legacy of glenn branca and the amazing no wave scene 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I fucking love this kind of music blended with performance art. God bless Sprain
Thank you so much for the footage. The new album is definitely an AOTY contender.
Man proposes... has the best bassline since Leaves Turn Inside You.
man proposes is one of the best songs since leaves turn inside you in general tbf
props for holding that camera for two hours and a half, it was definitely worth it, love from mexico!!!
Truly amazing to see how far they've come! I can't stop thinking about this show...
Me too. I’ve had a hard time breaking my hyper-fixation
And also when you realize this is their last show :0
Thank you so much for creating this. I've been putting this on almost daily until it begins to take a toll on my mental health lol. It's great stuff and I'm so glad there's a dedicated recording of their final show. Wish I could have been there, but this is the next best thing.
New song is fucking unfathomably great
Alex Kent is our generation’s Michael Gira, and I’m very excited to see what he does next

Thanks :)
Brother, thank you for this gift you have given us. Greetings from Argentina. This reaches the soul
I agree from Poland
Brilliant camera work. You captured the chaos of their music perfectly

THANK YOU for recording & uploading this! Fantastic videography!
losing my shit at 23:20 what performance and what a recording. just amazing.
hella bummed i couldn't make it to this cuz this is easily AOTY, so i'm immensely grateful for this recording 🔥❤️
I wish i could see these guys live. So bad. Thanks for filming this.
It was an incredible experience just to be here and I hope I remember it for years to come
Incredible!!!!!! Thank you for recording this piece of history!!!
masterpiece
Being in the front row the whole time, it was like a unholy experience I was witnessing. Saw them first with HANL, then Giles Corey. And now this.
Hoping to see them again
i have some bad news
too bad they already disbanded.
@@therealtomhanksforrestgumpdont remind me
definitive recording of this
I really hope we get a proper release for the new song, only a few minutes in and it has moments like 'We Think So Ill of You' which is my favourite track off Effigy
im so sorry to tell you this but they disbanded a while ago
@@wureka4856 yeah unfortunately I'm aware, hoping is comes out under a new project even if it's in a demo state
@@wureka4856is there any reason why they disbanded? I only discovered this band yesterday 😅
@@wureka4856 Hi
@@youokboi8556the singer is a bit of a prick apparently. Hard to work with etc. it just kind of fell apart from what I understand
Increíble!!!! Puntos altos todos!😮

The lead singer is like if wes anderson got rejected from film school and turned psychotic.

i honest to god think this may be the greatest live recording of all time. need this on dvd...can you upload the uncompressed footage to google drive?
Thank you! I can do that. What file format do you want?
@@lambbuttons i think mkv is best...? that should work fine haha. thank you so much
@@posnipymy video editing program doesn’t have an option to render in mkv so I’m rendering an uncompressed .avi file if that’s okay

thank you! I use a Sony DCR-TRV460
This is a silly question but anyone know what keyboard they’re using ?
Some Model of the Yamaha CP series, looks old though so it's hard to pin down exactly
1:50:28 how tf did you do this shot?! It’s god damn amazing
Thank you! If I recall correctly, I was sitting on the ground with my elbows on my knees and my face really close to the camera display because it was super bright
@@lambbuttons Interesting. I wasn’t sure if you had added that in post. You really are a talent, hope you get some recognition or paid doing this.
hey man would it be cool if i use some of this footage in a video? would all be credited ofc. still figuring everything out but this would be pretty valuable.
