- Australian band Mental As Anything co-lead vocalist Martin Plaza's hit solo single from his 1986 solo album 'Plaza Suite'. A cover version of the UK's Unit Four Plus Two 1965 #1 original.
So glad I found this gold nugget again......loved it back then, 35 years later it sounds even better
I'm sitting here dumbfounded... This song has been a 21 year mystery to me. I remember hearing it when I was a kid but hadn't heard it or seen the clip snice then (I was 10!). For some reason it popped in my head to Google it and here it is. Great song. Great memory. I can die knowing there's one more thing I got done :) Unbelieveable.
Love this song! It’s one of those songs that never fails to make you snile
Finally found it, The Song without a name. IT HAS NAME AFTER 36 YEARS!
LOL I knew the name but couldn't remember the artist
Love the Music Video ~ My second viewing going on 35-years from the first New Wave catcher!
This is just a brilliant song from the 80s go mental as anything always the best from a great band always sounding good lol xx
Unit Four Plus Two made a classic, and is by far the best of the three versions.
this is a bloody good song,it doesnt sound dated, its timeless,Plaza is talented
I love the smoothness of this version and 80's hair! Classic Mullett! I'd do anything to bring back (these) the good times. Best era ever. An Aussie Beach, Freedom and Zinc Cream ... Fluro of course!! :))
Love it 🙌 love Martin 🍀🍀🍀he's still battling the big C 😞🙏 I saw the Mentals 2 weeks before Greedy passed I was shattered! He talked about Martin, a tribute, and that he would never be playing with them again.. then Greedy went suddenly 😭🙌 🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜🫂🫂🫂❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥♾️♾️♾️
A gem
I love this song. My parents always played this song when I was a kid. 💃🕺👌💕
Oh hell yeah...I can still hear this version from when I was a kid in the ‘80s.
For some reason this song has been in my head for a few weeks - took me awhile to find the right version I remember. Don' think I've ever seen this video, but love this song!
A good pop song (like this) survives decades .
I was surfing stuff, got onto Mental as Anything, saw that Martin Plaza had this solo hit that I didn't immediately recognise, and decided to listen to it --- and then I realised: YES!!!! I know this song! I've always known it. But I had forgotten about it.
Great memories. Great version...well done..!!
bloody love marty plaza
Loved this song 💙🎼. And here also because Greedy Andrew Smith has left the building...if you leave me can I come too?💙🙏🇦🇺🎼
You just broke this news to me five minutes ago when I read your comment. I rarely watch or read the news nowadays so am really shocked and saddened to hear about Greedy. This and Live It Up are on high rotation in my car. Such vibrant, happy songs. This song was always played on Channel 7 at 7.57am weekdays in 1986 as a filler/promo just before I left the house to catch the school bus.
And so one by one they leave the building....
Fantastic song from his solo album. What a poetic line " the purple shades of evening " Bless you Roy !
Beautiful
got such a great voice for this song
hehe. As a kid I thought it was "the cyborgs in the street." Wow what an image that painted!..lol
When I was about 10 I thought the lyrics to Brass in Pocket went:
Gonna use my arms
Gonna use my legs
Gonna use my style
Gonna use my sausage
Listen again - you can see why. But imagine the image THAT painted!!
Classic, I hear it.
Sounds like an episode of Dr Who.
Should have been cyborgs. That's the way...it's meant to be.
It does sound like that
Very cool version - I remember it years ago because I was trying to videotape Cliff Richard & the young ones on an old Australian TV show called "Trax" (or "tracks?"). This was on the show and I grew to like it - but lost it when the tape stuffed up. Thanks heaps!
Time Tracks? Sci-Fi TV series about time traveller trapped in the cool 80's or 90s?
Oh yeah martin plaza nailed that one brilliant
I didn't even know I knew this, but it's all coming flooding back after 20 years. I figured I only knew the original. Very nice.
I saw this man play live, absolutely brilliant
+EdWart Same. Late in December 2015
This song just came into my head.. Dont know why!?!?
The concrete and they Clay Strange that
Great cover version-typical 80's pop-good job by Martin
Very, Very Coool Song!!! 5*s Love This One Alot!!! Thank You....Anita..
Song is eternally good...…………………..I'll leave it there xx
You to me ....
Are sweet as roses in the morning ....
And you to me ....
Are soft as summer rain at dawn, in love we share
That something rare
The sidewalks in the street
The concrete and the clay beneath my feet
Begins to crumble
But love will never die !!
Because we'll see the mountains tumble
Before we say goodbye
My love and I ... will be
In love eternally ....
That's the way
Mmm, that's the way it's meant to be ..
All around
I see the purple shades of evening
And on the ground
The shadows fall and once again you're in my arms
So tenderly
The sidewalks in the street
The concrete and the clay beneath my feet
Begins to crumble
But love will never die
Because we'll see the mountains tumble
Before we say goodbye ...
My love and I will be
In love eternally ---
That's the way
Mmm, that's… rhe way It´s meant to be ....
The sidewalks in the street
The concrete and the clay beneath my feet
Begins to crumble
But love will never die
Because we'll see the mountains tumble
Before we say goodbye ...
My love and I will be
In love eternally ---
That's the way
Mmm, that's… rhe way It´s meant to be ....
hadn't heard this for 10yrs at least! was just on RAGE music TV
I never really knew it that well but it was kinda in my blinds and I always remembered that and I like it now tho. ! There's a couple of songs in my blinds. !
well done, Rareclipz...was lookin 4 this b4 u uploaded...then i checked again today and voila!...good job, mate...this 1 brings back the memories
I know the Tommy Moeller (who wrote this song) quite well. It's always good to hear the Mentals do it. Cliff Richard did it too. And Tom told me it's been covered over 100 times.
😘🤣
thats the best cover album there from martin plaza i like it
Just like it was yesterday....
I'll pay the daggy moves! chukkuas to you for doing them!
I'm watching this because I saw him with The Mental's last night at a wedding.
They did this - doesn't really have the voice anymore, but great to see him perform.
Had a nice chat to him after the set.
+Dave Porter They still sound like they did all those years ago. Even though they're all getting old!
HA! Mum was like 'Totally' in love with him!
Ezekiel Amaterasu I was in love with him too. Completely obsessed. 😍
Great Song! Aussie Music in the 80's Rocked! He looks a lot like a young Iva Davies here! Isn't it interesting how you can always tell the era it is by the jeans!!!
lol! umm 🤔🤔🤔yeah.. that shirt and hair gave nothing away!😂🤣😂
Rocky balboa
😂😂😂😂
Superb clip
Classic Hit!
1986, a time when it seemed anything was possible.
good version of a great song
😍 Martin P
Never heard this before. "Concrete and Clay" hit No. 1 in the UK, #28 US. A competing version by Eddie Rambeau also charted.
Classic
Este artista es un desconocido para Bolivia, no sé si en Sudamérica habrá gustado. Martin Plaza, rarísimo. saludos desde La Paz
By Far the best version is that of the original by Unit 4+2. It has been my favourite song since I was 8 years old.
Nothing wrong with his mullet, or his vocals for that matter.
Every mullet is deeply wrong.
Endearing ~♡
I prefer this version 😊
this song always shat me
Come and see the Mentals at the Gundaroo Music Festival this Saturday October 10. fundraiser for Motor neurone Disease, a great day/ night out!
Oh yeah😊
Its a YES yes yes... Good catchy tune with dwinks lol
Aaaaiiiiddreiaannne!!!!
The dancers are also fantastic. Wonder who they were?
60s-80s versions of Concrete and Clay are all good
Ironically this song now appears on Mentals greatest hits album. Which I guess now means its a Mentals song...and not a Martin plaza solo effort.
My Twin Sis too me roses of my morning
From dis-summering, dis-dawn, know love to all, We now sharing
Just concrete & clay, known now as the way it's meant to be ( I as two, only.. )
Non-purple shades this dis-ceivince, deceiving
All dis-shadow now in arms, so dis-tender, and with my sidewalks you has crumbled payed,
As you see the man who tumble you; (still Pa's son living dis-cuts)
We will not deny, as my Love she internally that the way it's meant to be
dis-MG now dis-MJ child...
My apologies for the snare.
What a flashback....whatever happened 2 him?
Hello Lloyd.........
😊
better than the 1965 original by Unit 4 + 2
Don't be silly 🤡
Mid-80s muscle-man
I prefer the 1999 Kevin Rowland reading of this. This is a bit lightweight for mine.
Mullet city - did he do the original with unit 4+2?
Works the covewr and makes it his -way to do it.
Covewr? Is that similar to covfefe?
Chris Flemming?

Oh dear me
Chicks love Mullets
Like Unit 4 and Martin Plaza's versions (and Martin's mullet) , thought Randy was a bit boring.
I'm sorry this is your "crash" that me in this such of high
Boub,
I thought this was a mental as anything song
Is he packing a cut lunch?
What do you mean?
+Matt Hays I mean are his jeans so tight that they are bisecting his scrotum?
The drum sounds like someone thrashing a wet cardboard box with a ping-pong bat. The best version is Kevin Rowland 1999.
THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL EITHER
Great song and this is an OKAY re-make of it but, sadly, it DOES NOT improve on the original and that's what a remake should do....pay tribute to the song and improve on it. The premise of the video and the set, etc...are all pretty cheesy...but, otherwise. Like the way Martin did it...just wish it would have been better.
Oh please.. it's a brilliant version. The best there is.
Randy Edelman....sounds like an american..
i bet you're involve met in "Slice of Heaven " was better~!@!
NO BASS in this! hahahaa!!!!
Ummmm.....more like Adelaide!!!
After hearing the Unit 4 Plus 2 version I'm not a fan of this version..
this version is cursed
great song, horrid version. randy is best :)
