As a Queen fan since 1986, I must inform anyone who listen to one, two, or three songs of Queen then think can figure out Queen's music. It happened to me. Normally one perceives Queen as a prog-classic rock due to Bohemian Rhapsody. But the perception will disrupt when listen to surprising simple n soft like Dear Friend, Nevermore, Lily of the Valley, 39, or Lazing on Sunday Afternoon. But we are not Freddie Mercury. He could have thought somebody to love is the greatest song he could have ever written, but many other don't think the same.

For the purposes of a UA-cam video, even though I have stated many times that Queen II is my favourite album ever, I would suggest sticking to the black side. The whole album might be a bit of a stretch for anyone but Queen fans.
Queen's first 8 albums are _ALL_ like greatest hits compilations. Not one bad song. "It's Late" off of News of the World is my favorite (2nd favorite behind Bohemian Rhapsody, of course).
@@toddmathers5075 I kind of agree with you. This album was the beginning of their downslide. Their lyrics were becoming trite, but the music quality was just as good as always.Queen's worst is better than most bands' best. "Dead on Time" is one of my favorites.
Nick, you will love Queen II, songs like Ogre Battle, March of the Black Queen or The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke are unpredictable, proggy and have aged well. Just 4 master musicians on fire.
There is no other band like Queen, there never will be, They are their own Genre, They are the best all around rock group ever, no one else comes close.
A wonderful reaction to one of Queens' lesser known masterpices. If I may, I would love to see a reaction to "Liar", the live version in particular is another masterpice from one of their earlier concerts.
This album marked the end of Queen's early "classical" period. After this album, they seriously streamlined their sound towards the late 70s. If you love this song, explore their first 5 albums, nice pick!
I'm in love with my car and Killer Queen, hard but sophisticated. Tie your mother down, the show must go on, lazing on a Sunday afternoon afternoon. So many gems in each album
Guys, as a Queen FANATIC since 1984 and having listened to this song tenes and tens of times, your reaction made me appreciate this song at its full dimension. Your reaction is priceless! You're great music appreciators :) Thank you so much! :)
The best songs of Queen are the songs which are rather unknown to none Queen fans! I mean those songs which aren't aired on tv and radio, which aren't on the Greatest Hits (1-3) compilations, as those songs which are only "radio-friendly" singles. You can dig deep and find a ton of masterpices - one better than the other and very, very different from everything that you heard from Queen before. They did almost every genre in fantastic quality - absolutly stunning perfection. And with "every genre" I mean: blues, glam rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, progressive rock, punk rock, heavy metal, pop, rhythm 'n blues, funk, disco, country, gospel, soul, opera and even music-hall and ragtime, etc.! Or as I like to say: "Queen is a genre of its own!" :)
Another underrated masterpiece is "Dreamers Ball"... they are true musical geniuses that could perform anything... also, check out "Innuendo", another complex award-winning masterpiece... blessings.
The craziest ever thing about rock is that the greatest rock group was NOT a rock band indeed. They just played rock and bunch of other VERY other things..
This style is wonderful and gives them such full creative range. If you haven't heard '39, Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, Seaside Rendezvous, Good Company and perhaps a few others. :)
If you've only ever listened to mainly Queens greatest hits then you are in for a big big treat if you listen to Queens full albums starting with their first "Queen" you won't be disappointed. You will also hear three of the four band members singing, Freddie, Roger and Brian, then you will have to listen to Freddies duet album "Barcelona" with Montserrat Caballe.
One of my favorite and quite old Queen songs is The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke from around 73/74ish. It's based on the very detailed painting of the same name by Richard Dadd who completed it around 1864 (in an Criminal Lunatic Asylum, it took him nearly 10 years.
Been a fan of Queen since being a child in the 70s, and this is one of my favorite songs! Another prog masterpiece from this album is The Prophet's Song. Another gem from Queen that was never too popular and is just a completely different style is Cool Cat from Hot Space, it's full funky composed by John and Freddie, sadly Brian and Roger didn't want to be part of it which goes to show Queen's plasticity and composing talent.
i don't think Brian and Roger were ever against Cool Cat. They were against the funky/disco streak, while their (quite funky!) songs on the album (Dancer and Action) for me are better than Freddie's.
Classic song from a classic album, Also from A Day At The Races "You Take My Breath Away " the studio version leans more to the classical side with rich harmonic vocals "Good Old Fashioned Loverboy" has serious pomp and "Teo Torriate " is one of Queen's best deep cuts
Hi Guys, Love this album. Some wonderful tracks. Among my favourites is "Take My Breath Away" and "Drowse" Love the fact they called 2 of their albums after movies by The Marx Brothers. Brilliant stuff !! Byee Jim X .... [ Nick ...The album - Queen ll is an absolute must and will blow you away ]
Queen were masters at creating different colours and hues and styles of music. Vaudeville cod waltz - no problem. Brian give me a waltz symphany on your guitar. Others to check out 'Prophets Song', 'My Fairy King' , 'March of the Black Queen'.
There are 2 Queen albums that should be known as a whole. A NIGHT AT THE OPERA and A DAY AT THÈ RACES. Those two are like a twin couple, the concept seemingly being making as many different music-styles into Queen-songs as possible.
I appreciate the hidden gems like this. If you find a video of people dancing the waltz, silence the music, play this song while they go 'round & 'round. It works. 123 123 :) Freddie's vocals are light & sweet. Roger's drumming is so much fun. John's bass line is spot on! Brian's a master rock guitarist, however I think it really shows him off when he easy slips into these other genres with so much brilliant talent. More different styles? "Lily of The Valley", "Dear Friends", "Good Company", "Dreamers Ball", "My Melancholy Blues", "Seaside Rendevous", "Lazing On a Sunday Afternoon", and so much more.
You must try Queen 1 & Queen II ...funny you say prog.., they are everything, only band in the world to have their own genre of music...rock, opera, heavy rock, ballads, classical, soft rock, funk & dance, & massive rock anthems...my personal favourite era is the early 70's , great reaction guys, try the early stuff, it will open your eyes & ears and take you to another place you didnt know exsisted..
Nice one, Greybeard! News of the World, Day at the Races, Night at the Opera, Jazz and The Game are all such good listens, all the way through. Some good deep cuts there, like “Who Needs You”.
John Deacon was Queen's shy, secret weapon, his playing at the beginning is just amazing. Queen could take any style of music and make it their own, it makes a lot of music boring as it just the same style, while with the first time you listen to a Queen Album you just don't know what to expect.
Thanks, kids! such a great song.. love the bass(!) and guitar, as well as Fred's vocals... and what about the change-ups?? Look forward to more from you....
This song is great and it's deep where it really shows their musicianship! I hope you get to check out stuff off the album "Sheer Heart Attack", songs like Flick of the Wrist/Lily of the Valley or Bring Back that Leroy Brown.......
Roger Taylor said when Freddie first started to sing with them he was like a bleating goat and had to learn to sing better in the studio by listening back to his vocals. He had power, but no control in the early days. Obviously this changed.
Definitely do more Queen. The first five albums are absolute fire. Not a bad song in there. In fact, you’d best be served by doing a full listen of each album. They’re not necessarily concept albums, but they definitely carry a theme through each one.
@@michaelkruska6097 Really you think so? To me the early work was so progressive, hard rock, metal/trash, whimsical ect. The good die young, I suppose so.
The best of Queen's lesser known songs IMO. Incredibly creative, musically outstanding, there's so much going on here - a lot of bands would have made a whole career out of it.
“Hard Core” Queen fans will tell you that Queen’s BEST material is in their Deep Cuts, album songs that were never released as singles/were never on The Charts. Some of these were played regularly at their concerts/became show favorites with audiences. P.S. The BoRhap movie’s nice, but IS full of inaccuracies (creative license, I guess). Freddie was actually already a friend. He’d hang out at Smile’s shows/give them advice on how to improve! When Tim Staffel quit, Brian said in an interview that he & Roger were ready to call it quits… Then Fred said “Try one more time, with me.” Roger said when they first heard Fred sing, Rog thought Fred “sounded like a billie goat” (because he hadn’t figured out how to control his vibrato yet). FYI, there are several really GOOD - free - documentaries on Queen/Freddie, here on YT.
So much more to Queen than all the obvious GH’s try Queen,Queen 2, Sheer Heart Attack albums, at the time hailed as being The new Zeppelin, one you must try is Mustapha from Jazz, but do the first 3 Albums before you venture into the more mainstream Queen - you just don’t know what your are missing guys, this discovery will be your new Steely Dan
The Magic of Freddie Mercury, Brian May,Roger Taylor,& John Deacon, so much Theatrics nailed down here. Fitting together like a glove on the hand. The Final album Made in Heaven is a must for the whole entire musical Universe 🫶🏻
The greatest hits album features Queen's most commercial sound. But there's so much more to them. Check out March Of The Black Queen and The Fairy Feller's Masterstroke from their Queen II album, Brighton Rock from the Sheer Heart Attack album, The Prophet's Song from A Night At The Opera and It's Late from News Of The World. Also, the title track from their Innuendo album features superb classical guitar from Steve Howe of Yes. So many great tracks to discover - keep up the great work!
I bought that stuff in the mid seventies. I was a teen then. Queen and a few other bands were our rock/pop/progrock pantheon. My generation was a little mad at Queen when their simple pop-albums came out in the 80ies ... especially after they did quite a few sensational albums in the 70ies. But even later they did a couple great albums: A KIND OF MAGIC and INNUENDO stand out.
I am so pleased you enjoyed this!. Your site is wonderful. I am definitely subscribing. I strongly suggest you listen to the live version of "Find Me Somebody to Love" - must be from Montreal 1981- will give you an amazing example of diversification of Queen - how the band collaborates and Freddie's brilliant style. You will be amazed!!. NicknLex, you are amazing, I enjoyed your reaction and have subscribed!! Thank you and take care! Anne
A great reaction and and terrific deep cut. Greatest Hits are always so deceptive in that they only reflect what became popular. Popular to me always implies without depth or contemplative. Nice request Greybeard. 👍👍
Just seen this , bit late to the party on this first time, definitely more “non commercial” Queen , check out My Fairy King & Jesus from Queen 1 , Fairy Tellers Master stroke/Nevermore (must be played back to back) Dragon Attack - The Game, Mustapha -Jazz , Tenement Funster/Flick of the wrist/ Lily of the valley -Sheer Heart Attack ( again played as one) all classics but you will never find on any Greatest hits compilation. You will wish you had listened to Queen bit like Steely Dan 😊
John Deacon on bass, everyone! As for prog, check out the album Queen II. In fact, if you are lukewarm or indifferent to their hits (and I love all of Queen’s output with Freddie), try the first three albums for hard rock and prog.
The irony is that queen had to (or felt they had to) become more “boring” in order to remain commercial as the late 70s rendered anything perceived as remotely “prog” extremely uncool. Had they continued to make music of this complexity, radio would have abandoned them, they would have sunk into obscurity, and you probably wouldn’t be discovering their earlier work now. That said, and as much as I enjoy their simple, straight-forward pop song period, I agree that this earlier period is Queen at its best.
"Greatest Hits" are songs released as singles that made the (UK) charts on initial release, basically. Thus "Greatest Hits", not "Best of" or anything.
Brilliant pic this one! You should definitely continue on the Queen journey. Queen has nothing but hidden gems on all of their albums and no I'm not exaggerating. Try My Fairy King or if you're into live music you should deftinitely listen to White Queen from A Night At The Odeon in 1975. Just to name a few. Very nice reaction. It's clear to see you are genuine compared to other reactors
That is why you need to go through deep cuts. You will run across so many hidden gems that you never have heard of before. This was on f their masterpieces. Might want to give a listen to March of the Black Queen. You both really need to listen to Queen 11.
You can down a wonderful road with Queen including collaborations and solo work. Opera with Freddie and Montserrat Caballe, Rogers political stances and Brian's wonderful soulful and heavy rock work. "Mother Love" is a must, Freddie's last vocal is powerful and haunting.
Think about for those who know the first 3 QUEEN albums and then by 1976 and this album wow they really improved their craft song making to produce something as totally amazing as this album DAY AT THE RACES etc.
I vote for any version of "You Take My Breath Away"....it will knock your socks off... also "My Melancholy Blues",...and "Mustafa" for lots of contrast! You will love them!
This is a sheer classic..one of their finest songs..Mercury's vocal and the harmonies...sublime, while I'm at it...you guys will fall deeper with Queen...if you listen to 'White Queen (As It Began) from the Queen 2 Album...beautiful and reduced me to tears..every time, Love Mercury
Agree this song is a hidden gem but Queen have alot from there albums which alot of people haven't heard Along with Take my Breath Away' Lilly of the Valley' Don't think there will be ever a frontman like Freddie ever again But the whole band wrote fantastic tracks and there Cannon style backing harmonies are second to none Please play more Queen There is a certain track called No One But You (Only The Good Die Young ) Written by John Deacon for Freddie which i think was John's last time he recorded with Queen Don't think he ever got over his Death a must listen great vocals from Brian & Roger remembering the great Freddie it will leave you with a tear in your eye😢 Saw Queen in 1975 classic Night at the Opera Tour on 24th Dec still shown on tv today What a fantastic band Queen will live forever ❤ Thank you both for playing this great track.
Dear friends, nevermore and lily of the valley, just over 3.5 minutes for all three.. Queen from bygone years you will love them , from the Happy Scotsman..
I'll be honest... I have Night At The Opera on vinyl... and I don't remember this song. Maybe it's because I haven't had a working turntable for the last 20+ years 😀 One of my favorites of Queen's that doesn't seem to get a lot of play is Now I'm Here from Sheer Heart Attack. One of their more 'traditional' rockers.
As a Queen fan since the 80s, it doesn't matter if there are inaccuracies in the movie. Others may disagree but i don't care. It was moving and entertaining, and that's what Freddie did. He moved you, and he entertained. That's what music is for.
A real Queen gem 💎When Freddie approached Brian and Roger about singing for them Brian said 1st time Freddie sang he screamed. But as we know turned into the best frontman ever
This was a really pretty song it makes me think of watching those silent black an white vaudeville movies , but this is pure imagination as I’ve never seen one an then it rocked out from what I’ve heard from them they’re very theatrical and I love theater

Anne
Thank you for the love and support! Welcome, Anne! 💕
This song gives me the chills.
Every. Single. Time.
A great reaction and and terrific deep cut. Greatest Hits are always so deceptive in that they only reflect what became popular. Popular to me always implies without depth or contemplative. Nice request Greybeard. 👍👍
Waltz and rock in one song: only Queen could do that. Note: the Waltz has nothing to do with carnival.
Hi guys ... I'm sure you will love White Queen (live version at Hammersmith 1975) ... You will loooove that song ❤🔥
A work of art. Needs to be celebrated as such!
Try March of the Black Queen, from 74 prog at its best
You Take my Breath Away
My Melancholy Blues
Teo Torriate
Jealousy
Dreamers Ball
It's Late
Saludos de un Venezolano viviendo en Perú
"Greatest Hits" are songs released as singles that made the (UK) charts on initial release, basically. Thus "Greatest Hits", not "Best of" or anything.
Brilliant pic this one! You should definitely continue on the Queen journey. Queen has nothing but hidden gems on all of their albums and no I'm not exaggerating. Try My Fairy King or if you're into live music you should deftinitely listen to White Queen from A Night At The Odeon in 1975. Just to name a few. Very nice reaction. It's clear to see you are genuine compared to other reactors
Obra maestra absoluta...!
Agree this song is a hidden gem but Queen have alot from there albums which alot of people haven't heard
Along with Take my Breath Away' Lilly of the Valley'
Don't think there will be ever a frontman like Freddie ever again But the whole band wrote fantastic tracks and there Cannon style backing harmonies are second to none
Please play more Queen
There is a certain track called
No One But You
(Only The Good Die Young )
Written by John Deacon for Freddie which i think was John's last time he recorded with Queen Don't think he ever got over his Death a must listen great vocals from Brian & Roger remembering the great Freddie it will leave you with a tear in your eye😢
Saw Queen in 1975 classic Night at the Opera Tour on 24th Dec still shown on tv today
What a fantastic band
Queen will live forever ❤
Thank you both for playing this great track.
Queen had some great album cuts! Try their song from the same album called White Man😊
Dear friends, nevermore and lily of the valley, just over 3.5 minutes for all three..
Queen from bygone years you will love them , from the Happy Scotsman..
I love this song. 😍❤️ There are so many not on the greatest hits that are amazing. Well in my opinion any Queen Song is the greatest 😍
I'll be honest... I have Night At The Opera on vinyl... and I don't remember this song. Maybe it's because I haven't had a working turntable for the last 20+ years 😀
One of my favorites of Queen's that doesn't seem to get a lot of play is Now I'm Here from Sheer Heart Attack. One of their more 'traditional' rockers.
This song is from A Day at the Races not from A Night at the Opera.
@@MrNigelBriggs Ahhh... that would explain it 😀
As a Queen fan since the 80s, it doesn't matter if there are inaccuracies in the movie.
And of course we have a Marlene Deitrich impersonation to top it off.
If you haven't done them already, two really proggy Queen songs are March of the Black Queen and The Prophet Song
the prophet song is one of the best ❤
I also love "Liar," - from Queen's first album. It will always be one of my favorites ❤
This is probably the only song ever which has a heavy metal segment followed by a waltz segment, followed by a pop segment
It was all downhill after Day at the Races. They set out on a similar trajectory to post Hackett Genesis.
With Queen you dig for the buried treasures.
Love this song .. Queen is so versatile! All members of Queen were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame & Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, on their own merits! You guys might also like SEASIDE RENDEZVOUS, DREAMER’S BALL, GOOD COMPANY, SLEEPING ON THE SIDEWALK, COOL CAT, ‘39’ ..
The hits are just the tip of the Queen iceberg.
You guys would love death on two legs it’s perfectly Queen
Already heard March of the black queen, or White queen live at Hammersmith? you'll love it...
