- Great song performed by Donnie Iris from his debut-album 'Back On The Streets' from 1980.
Lyrics:
Look in my eyes and tell me I'm not crazy
Too many shock treatments he's insane
Stow away my pills doctor don't be lazy
Stick him with your needles man he digs the pain
And I hit the consultation what a dream vacation
It doesn't matter even if it rains
Cause I didn't spend no money
He just admitted that he was deranged
But the doctor said I'm sorry son
It's time that you were leaving
Now pack up all your bags
Cause we need your bed this evening
Get it on
Oh get it on
Get it on
Get it on
Oh get it on
Get it on
Get it on
Oh no
Doctor don't you think that I'm much too aggressive
Better lock him up before he hurts someone
Face it I'm a schizophrenic manic depressive
Get him outa here he gonna screw things up
It's too late for me to change it
You'll have to call my agent
He worked so hard to get him booked in here
Just cancel my other engagements
Looks like it's gonna be another bad year
Well you're really not that crazy man
You might as well admit it yeah
Now half the people in the world
should have themselves committed
Get it on
Oh get it on
Get it on
Get it on
Oh get it on
Get it on
Get it on
Shock Treatment!
Now I don't even remember my name
Oh what a shame that I lost all my brains
Shock Treatment
It's giving me the treatment
Give him shock treatment
Let's give him one more treatment
Give him back his
Give him back his gun
Get him outa here
Now he's gonna hurt someone
Shock Treatment
It's giving me the treatment
Give him shock treatment
Let's give him one more treatment
Bought this LP new in like 80' or 81'.....
I was like 24, now I'm 64 & still playing these songs!
I was very fortunate to discover my parents taste in music. 35 in 2023 and still keeping the 70s, 80s and 90s alive.
I remember back in the day, I used to listen to this tune all the time, because I had a friend who used to be a real mean bastard, then(back then) shock treatments were a thing that was so common they used them all the time. Before this album came out, my friend Said," now I can't Even remember my name" so Donnie Hit it right on the head! But seriously.. He was ahead of his time..
Every song on that album rocked! Loved cruising around rocking to donnie iris. I would have that time again.
early 80s gold this be. . . .rocked many a college party saskatoon way back then. . . .glorious times !
Incredible song, incredible talent. They all were completely underrated. Long live Donnie and the Cruisers!!!
Cool tune. 😎 Reminds me of David Bowie,, with a bit of The TUBES sprinkled in !! 💦
Iris is "everyman's man." He's down to earth and will hang and drink a beer with ya after the show. That's MY Rock-n Roll Hero!
'cause we need your bed this evening' . . .love that line
Donnie Iris ,, is a GEEK !
A total Guitar Freak !
Love all his songs 👍
Donnie iris is the father and innovator of new wave he is so sadly underrated and forgotten he should be in the same league as ric ocasek and Greg kihn his music matches the best of American 80s new wave
perhaps the term 'new wave ' is overused here ...... I would be inclined to categorize it as straight ahead rock and roll .......a tad tinny maybe , but no soapy synthesizer lines and techno - pseudo - drum tinkles ..... Donnie,s material fit into it's time ..... but also matched the times around it .
@@randymack2972 ok maybe I did overuse that term but you definitely have a good point here
My first concert Donnie iris and b e Taylor awesome
"I never quite got his image but like the tunes, esp ah Leah & Like a rock."
Donnie's Image is "Retro - COOL , Man! Not afraid to be himself in a world full of clones.
Haven't heard this in 30 years. Feels like yesterday.
My favorite classic rock album!I love it but why is it so underated?
jen sedlak Probably because most people/critics haven't heard it. I'd say, though, that his second album is just as strong. I think the songs on Back on the Streets are a bit more catchy, but not any better than the songs on King Cool. And 'That's the Way Love Ought to Be" is a strong contender for his best song -- though 'Ah Leah' is hard to beat.
Who ran and controlled the radio stations? There is so much music I am finding that I never heard before, even back then. Coming out of disco era, this extremely underrated.
I heard this when it came out when it was ten; me mum had taped it from the radio. Always loved it, never could forget it and here it is again! Thanks!
One of the best.
I love this song. It's been YEARS since I heard this.
Ohhhhhhh Noooooooooooo!!! 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“Now pack up all your bags because we need your bed this evening.”
Always loved this album since it first came out!
I flew over the cuckoo's nest a long time ago!
Just went to Donnie's 80th Birthday Jam. Didn't expect to hear this. It would have been a nice surprise! He rocked the house at 80! Still King Cool!!!!!!!!!
This was always a fav. album! Still is. :)
it reminds me of The cars;
great melodic rock
HeyManu Hey
Reminds me of The Cars AND Bowie from the Diamond Dogs album... but way better than what both were doing at this time.
Such a great song
Awesome Fun Rocking Music !
Another favorite from the out on the streets cd
Im a fan... oh but if you ever get to see him in concert ... awesome experience
Roy jr Adair and if it’s in a bar during Steeler season when they’re in the playoffs... oh boy.
the elvis of the 80s-Donny Iris.
Great tune
Very cool track! Donnie Iris rocks!
Someone needs to get Donnie to release "The High & The Mighty" & "Fortune 410" on CD. Then they need to get him to release his albums on ITunes.
I'd guess that is up to MCA -- who originally released those albums.
I have found both of these albums on cd on Ebay from someone from Estonia. It says Digitally Remastered and comes with nice cd sleeves. I am thinking they took it from Vinyl and remastered it but they both sound great! I've been waiting for this for 30 years on cd and I got tired of waiting. Including the links below. Enjoy!

@@kirkcekada5637 Yes, they released them... but they sure did a shitty job of actually doing their job, and PROMOTING Donnie's music. Way too many people never even heard of Donnie Iris, which is a crime, as far as I'm concerned. As big as Donnie rocked in the eighties? His face should have been plastered everywhere.
Good ol days:)
....."half of the people in the world should have themselves committed"....... I say MORE than half!! : / If I wasn't crazy, I know I'd go insane!! And on we go............ GREAT old song, on a classic album.
That laughter gets me smiling every time I hear it. :)
Thank you for sharing.
I never quite got his image but like the tunes, esp ah Leah & Like a rock.
Just a GREAT song all the way through.
great song!
80s rock at it best
I was thinking of Devo as well. I expect him to pull out a whip any minute!
Cool 😎
That's how we used to get stoned, the intro, haha!
I remember when I gave a copy of this song to my Psychiatrist.
“Zap him one more time you’ll get a Frankenstein.”
ill say it again . . . .if this guys career took place in the 50s . . .Elvis would have been a mechanic.
dont you yhink that im much too aggressive ? haha
does anyone remember him from the jaggerz ?
this guy does.
Wow, song's not unlike the quirky vocal styles of 10cc , or Ween
Hey this isn't bad at all.
