100% agree that this game does not need to be played with 5-6 people. Even 4 people can slow the game down drastically especially with the 1st expansion. I will probably pick this up, because the Mandrogia (sp) ingredients seem like a fun new addition.
One thing that can make this game better is adding a real time turn based system where you have a time limit and try to make your own goals of a certain amount of points you need to obtain. You can make it cooperative this way as well.
While I'm glad this expansion offers the more durable plastic dispenser for those who bought the base game's first edition, I think I'm gonna pass on this one as someone who bought the second edition with the plastic dispenser already included. The game is just more cumbersome with 5-6 players, and I don't see much more here that adds to the experience beyond what the first expansion already offered.
Rainer Ahlfors I understand that in the context of what this expansion offers gameplay-wise, but since Tom was highlighting it specifically compared to the cardboard one, and I didn’t find any of the new gameplay elements particularly appealing, I’m gonna have to pass on this one.
@@dragonlance6027 The rules for the 5-6 player game involve using two dispensers, since the original dispenser was not designed to hold components for a game beyond 4 players.

On the other hand I think this is a great game for having a drink, chatting, and not paying much attention to the game. This expansion makes it even better for that kind of scenario. More players, and less cardboard that can be ruined by spilled drinks. If the potions get drenched they can still work, but not the dispenser.
I cannot find any review from The Dice Tower for the "5th Ingredient" expansion. It's obvious that he didn't have it in this video so it's like it was never reviewed. He did mention it here but it's like the review vanished.

I can't believe I'm 1 year late for this! Potion explosion is one of my favourite games. But I have never liked the cardboard dispenser. It's fine, but it looks like it's going to break in a couple of years. The plastic one looks more plain, but I guess I can paint over it. Having that storage on the bottom is also great!!
Almost picked up the base game yesterday at Barnes and Nobles yesterday. Was on sale for 30% off. Then I looked it up on Amazon and Amazon was still a couple bucks cheaper.

... except you need two dispensers.

What do you need two dispensers for?

When you used the gavel at the end of the video, did you lose any of your marbles?

Isn't it confusing to have white and green wild marbles together?
Only for the plastic dispenser.
Was this ever released? I haven't found it for sale anywhere.
I don't think a lot of people buy this expansion. It's still difficult to find
4:20 , Tom really knows how to troll his viewers. Lol. He knows how much that just annoyed his viewers.

The death of brick and mortar.
It's just a few dollars, Jeff bezos don't need a few more dollars.
I see what you did there with that outfit! 😉
I'll be honest, it's a shame they opted for plastic. More plastic produced, and the cardboard one is super clever so that was a very nice touch. :(
It's a shame they opted to go with a far better, much more durable solution? Yeah, everyone loves their cardboard try falling apart on them.
