Thanks for mentioning the right way of saying "shave", not "shaved" ice! FYI, another common mistake is saying "Hawaiian shirt" instead of "aloha shirt". Keep up the good work. Aloha!
@@Livingtheglobe there’s nothing to dislike! Ok, maybe the rat issue in the evenings. We stayed at the Hilton resort for our last few days in Hawaii. We went to the local food trucks to eat rather than the hotel restaurants, they’re just better. Great snorkeling, wonderful photo opportunities, and the most perfect beaches. As for food, I’m hooked on poi! 100 Sails was an amazing dining experience with damn good sushi.
I tried like 3 different fillings. Liked them all. Personally , I loved the plain ones better. I put aside an whole afternoon to try this bakery. Caught hold of Uber to drive me from lewers st to kapahulu ave. And it was all worth it!!
Great job with the video. Love the foods you mentioned. We eat Kalua Pork all the time. I haven’t been to Kono yet but I heard their burrito is good. Leonard Bakery Malasadas are the best.
When I was still living in Hawaii we used to make kalua in an I'm, but living in the states I make it in a slow cooker(crock pot), really simple, I use pork butt (Boston butt), smothered in liquid smoke and sea salt, wrapped tight in aluminum foil and slow cook over night on low for 6-8 hours until tender.
I like fresh (plain) Poi mix with Lomi Lomi Salmon, my dad and his friends liked day old (sour) Poi. When you buy Poi, you should ask if its fresh or day old. One is really plain and the other is just a little sour.
Stop! Your made me hungry on the first food!😂🤤 I honestly cant wait to go to Hawaii when i older. I was feeling very meh and was confused on if i acttauly wanted to live or go there when i get older. @@Livingtheglobe we are coming over from the UK for our first visit in April! We have spent months and months researching and watching your videos which have been a huge help x
that shrimp place looks a lil too clean, dont' get me wrong, they do some good food - but there is something extra enjoyable about those roadside shrimp trucks that look like moving health code violations :) (my favourite one is some guy on the west coast that often parks in one of the vacant lots on the way out towards Makaha beach)
Giovanni’s wins the shrimp game compared to Teds by a long shot. But Teds pies are great on their own. Too bad we can’t get them at Foodland anymore, now have to drive to north shore to get one.
Hi, first time watching and now subscribed! We are going back to Hawaii in later 2021 to celebrate my 70th (ugh!) birthday and our 45th wedding anniversary. We’ve been about five times already, but really looking forward to taking a foodie trip around the Island of Oahu...thanks to your terrific recommendations! We have nine days on Oahu and I plan on hitting quite a few of your suggested places! Thanks so much! (BTW, NOT having poi. Already had that 45 years ago when we went to a luau, while on our honeymoon... not a favorite of ours!)
Congratulations! Lol I love poi but I'm Polynesian and it's kind of like the Polynesian version of Swedish lutefisk -- people who grew up with it, love it; but many other people -- no! 😄
We went to a little place for Hawaiian food on the opposite of the road and few blocks down from the original leonard’s. we liked it and even though it was only a 10 min walk from waikiki beach we were the only people who looked like tourist. Poi was very very bland and absolutely tasteless. I don’t think in anyway one can bring out the flavor of that stuff. There are so many things Hawaiians could have done with Taro. Wonder why they chose to make Poi. Someone suggested me to mix it with Lomi lomi salmon and have. Yes, it did make a good dressing to the lomi lomi salmon. I personally won’t recommend to have it with kalua pork. Because it might kill the pork’s flavor. Kalua pork by itself is a must-try delicacy. It is a nice salty and delicious dish by itself.
We do not like poi either but many people do! Not a fan of Lomi Lomi either! There is an awesome spot at the kahuku sugar mill Taro Hut they make so make taro dishes!
Ted's Bakery is THE BEST. Makes me want to go back to Hawaii.
