Still amazing and they put out updates about once a month to optimize the speed. Currently I do not use AA/carplay. I just enable my hotspot on my phone and away I go. Boot up times are great after a few updates. 0 major complaints. I honeslty cant imagine my car without it now. It is a bit fiddly if you use AA or Carplay, but now that I dont use them I honestly think I have evolved beyond them. @NomisRC great video! I have an older Carlinkit AI box with Android 9 4GB ram and have been curious to upgrade to this. Question for you, with this new one, have you had any issues with call quality? One thing I’ve always hated about mine is the call quality over the speakers is always trash sounding. I’m really hoping this new one sounds good?
Can you make a phone project an entire Android OS on you car screen, No unfortunately. Can you make a phone do android auto, Yes but it wont be able to do netflix, play store and install any app you want, youtube. This is converting your entire infotainment system into a android computer so you never need a phone at all. Hooking a phone to your car will never make it able to play movies and games on the cars screen. Android auto does not allow you to do that for safety reasons, this is a way around that. But mainly its nice to get in your car and not need your phone for a single thing. Get in, pop on your youtube premium playlist and let the videos play.
I just got this unit. I got it connected but the screen mirroring on my iPhone 15 is not finding the device. Is there a setting to turn it on in the CarlinKit ? I'm totally unfamiliar with Android devices having only had Apple phones. Also, while connected the audio system in my Toyota does not function, not even the radio. Is this normal? I had to switch to my phone to play radio.
You can have Internet it's called Bluetooth Internet a cheap box I had it was difficult to connect because it was hairy but it worked when finally connected
It does both android auto and apple car play so yes it will work for apple. But it is itself a Android device, So all the really cool stuff is Android. Like watching UA-cam/Netflix/Google Chrome, on your dash. For this you just enable hotspot on your phone and connect this device to it for internet only. Or you can buy it a sim card so it always has internet.
I know it's not exactly a new video but I wanted to ask about the UA-cam app. Can you download videos so you can play them while you're not connected to WiFi? Like in a mobile YT app. Edit: Same question in relation to Netflix app
Honestly Ive not tried. Being its meant to take over AA and Carplay I would tend to say no, but wouldnt hurt to try. Plugging it into a PC for a firmware update I can confirm, but you can also do the firmware updates OTA.
I use my phones hotspot, so it is determined by my phones speed. I have 5g att unlimited. I've not had this happen. Please tell me how you use the device, i.e. Android auto or hotspot? Have you done all the updates?
Can you tell me "how" to get my cell txt to be read to me when they come in and will it allow me to respond? I have a 2024 Toyota and disconnected that bluetooth connection to the car, so there will be no conflict. I did not want to pay the subscription to toyota for that option
I call it graduating from android auto and apple carplay. HAHA. Anytime i say that people are like what is better then AA or carplay. I just laugh and say thats old news man. "this is the way"
Hi, thank you very much for the video. I have the device for a few days and my question/problem is that the device would not automatically connect to the car when the car is turned on (MG4). The device lights up but I need to unplug the USB connector and plug it in again to get it connected to the car. Have you had this problem ? It might well be that it is an issue with the car but I just wanted to ask you for your experience. Thanks !
@@NomisRCThank you very much for your prompt reply. Other than that the device works perfectly fine. It is not a deal breaker but it would be nicer if the device would connect automatically. Thanks again !
@@NomisRC Thanks for the tip. I just tried it but I had already the latest version. Unfortunately, this did not solve the issue. BTW: You said in your video that you cannot turn on the wifi and be connected to Android Auto at the same time. Actually you can: In "Other Settings" there is an option "Allow Wifi and Hotspot to be turned on at the same time" (or something similar). You can set your mobile phone hot spot to be reconnected automatically. If you exit Android Auto then the system will automatically connect you to your mobile phone hot spot and you have internet. If you then click on reconnecting to Android Auto it will disconnect you from the hot spot connection and reconnect you to Android Auto. Maybe this is helpful. I might just check with my MG dealer if there is a way so that the box will connect automatically when the car boots up.
@@schneekoppe32 Yeah I did set that setting not long after making this video, but good to mention to anyone reading this, so that they know, thx. Sorry the updates didnt clear up your issue.
hi there.. thanks for the video its extremely helpful.. I have a car that does not have built in Carplay.. but it supports wired phone connection using an app called "QDLink" which mirrors the phone to the head unit.. Do you think the Box would work for my car "Geely Tugella 2024"?
I already ordered it and will test if it works or not.. I guess it would as you said if the car is new it should.. plus majority of the Chinese car infotainment systems are android base.. thanks for the reply and Mary Christmas 🎄 in advance
Unfortunately it didn't work on the Geely tugella 2024.. I was told by the Dealer here in Bahrain that the new firmware update of the headunit will have AutoAndroid and CarPlay but it will be wired I suppose.. let's see
Yes if you'd like to use AA you can just like any other wireless AA device, It will just lack all the features that make it good so you might as well just have a wireless AA only device for $50. I just graduated from that as its so much more powerful and intuitive on its own and IMO what its really intended to be used for. For non-AA I set my hot spot on my phone to never shut off and my phone doesn't drain anymore then usual. So no downside for me. Just the upside of my car having a proper android infotainment system that is literally as capable as your phone. Kinda what we all will do one day I've just moved to it earlier then most. This is definitely the next gen after AA/Carplay, You will look at those as old tech once you use this device how its intended. FYI leaving your hotspot on your phone and your car using data will not drain the battery as fast as AA. AA uses wifi and bt and is constantly using the CPU/GPU of your phone. The way I use it the device is using its own CPU/GPU so your phone will have much much better battery life. AA sucks down a phone as fast as using it, hence why you need it charging at all times while using AA or your phone will die in a couple of hours. The way I use this the phone will last all day.
When I turn my car on it takes about 15 seconds to boot, and it automatically connects to my phones hotspot, that I leave on permanently, right away and I can open anything I want. Id say 25 seconds from car off to listening to music.
