I am so disappointed it wasn't more like the book. Now that Blood and Cheese is not as bad I can see some show fans being like Daddy Daemon did nothing wrong even more.
The scene felt underwhelming in many aspects.
The biggest take away was the fact Helaena doesn't have to choose, they aren't forcing her to make a choice a mother shouldn't make, which is the biggest drive for her to spiral down to depression, she chose Maelor and they killed Jahaerys and her seeing Maelor all the time she is thinking she failed as a mother. Still, props to Phia (Helaena's actress) because even if it felt underwhelming her acting made the scene so visceral in the sense you can she is going full on shock and she looks for Alicent not as a mother of Jahaerys but as a child trying to be shield by her mother and that her taking Jahaera is her last straw of a motherly instinct coming out.
But the fact she just escapes feels meh, feels lazy. I would have prefer a similar reaction to Rhaenyra on the beach from Helaena than her running away. Maybe not fully crying but something that felt like she didn't just dissasociate.
Can't lie I was disappointed too, the choice was everything
completely ruined it. Missed opportunity. It's not even about the
gruesomeness that makes blood and cheese impactful in the book, but the dynamics and that little bit of dialogue that makes it such a psychological horror for Alicent and Helena
Im getting bashed on Tiktok when I commented on a video how I liked the episode overall but was disappointed of the Blood and Cheese scene and a bunch of ppl were calling me weird because "I wanted to see a child get beheaded" which wasnt the case
Miguel Sapochnik exit is hurting the show more than I thought it would. I can only imagine Blood and Cheese directed by him.
I don’t mind the change as a book reader and a show watcher. I really don’t need to see a child’s head be taken off or anything like that. In fact a bunch of my friends who didn’t read the book at all still felt the horror of what was happening. Not everything needs to be on screen. Trauma is trauma. Seems the majority of the book fanbase is not happy at all with this change. I liked the scene. But that’s me.
They also raped Jahaera in the book, so I'm content with how they handled it in the show. Maelor may not even exist in the show, we haven't seen him yet. I'd be fine with this change, his only purpose was blood and cheese and then his brutal death.
It’s just a threat didn’t actually happen
@@MartMyers yep you're right, just reread it my bad!
