Check out the El Salvador Expats group on Facebook for rental contacts, and cruise around looking for signs in cafes. You can also drop us a DM on Twitter and we can connect you with a few property people when you arrive. This is a word-of-mouth economy, so the best approach is to show up and start asking. You'll be amazed how eager people are to help if you give them a smile and a kind word!

    I wonder and ask... how can the huge Bitcoin volatility make it suitable for payments? For example: if I buy a car now with 1 BTC (~$28,000) and if next year 1 BTC reaches for example $50,000 it will be like I paid $50,000 for that same car...

    • @twopeopleinparadise
      @twopeopleinparadise  Рік тому +3

      Interesting question. Looking at it another way, if you buy a car with 28,000 units of fiat trash, that's 28,000 you didn't exchange for Bitcoin. If in 1 year Bitcoin reaches $50,000, you're in the same boat as if you had bought the car with 1 BTC. It's the same outcome.
      The difference is that by using the Bitcoin to buy that car, you have contributed to the emergence of a Bitcoin-based economy. Every exchange of goods and services for Bitcoin brings us one step closer to a sound money system in which the people are empowered to control their own economic life.
      Let's also reframe the concept of Bitcoin's "volatility." If you start with the assumption that dollars are a good yardstick for measuring value, you will see the dollar-denominated price of Bitcoin fluctuate a lot and think that Bitcoin's value is unstable.
      But are dollars a good yardstick for measuring value? The purchasing power of a dollar is dictated by unelected bureaucrats who meet behind closed doors to make decisions about interest rates, money supply increases, and so on. Because of this, dollars have no intrinsic value. Their value isn't derived from utility, nor any other principle; it is simply imposed onto millions of people by incompetent and typically corrupt authorities. For that reason, fiat dollars are inherently deranged, and can't be used reliably to measure the value of anything.
      In other words, the dollar-denominated price of Bitcoin contains no information about Bitcoin's intrinsic value. The intrinsic value of Bitcoin comes from its security, its sovereign utility, and its decentralization. This is a subtle but profound shift in thinking which, once realized, has profoundly liberating implications.

    • @Edopriv1
      @Edopriv1 Рік тому +1

      @@twopeopleinparadise I thank you for your kind answer, and I know it is tricky, but I respectfully disagree: if I have both $28,000 and 1 BTC, if I buy the car with $28,000 and keep my 1 BTC, next year (as per the example above) it will equal $50,000. On the contrary, if I buy the car with 1 BTC and keep $28,000, next year I will still have just $28,000 (with less purchasing power due to inflation). Therefore, the best outcome would be to buy the car with $ and not BTC. Obviously the scenario totally changes 180 degrees if next year 1 BTC = $14,000 (but we all know that BTC value will grow in time). What do you think?

    • @Edopriv1
      @Edopriv1 Рік тому +1

      @@twopeopleinparadise Great answer and I do agree with your perspective! Also, we know that in time BTC volatility will keep decreasing anyway. The true change will happen if/when all the goods/services will be priced in BTC/Satoshi only, with no more inflation. Thank you for your time and insight!

      We haven't lived out there no, but it is true that the further you go from the more developed areas, the less understanding and receptiveness to Bitcoin you find, which is to be expected. There is an organization called Mi Primer Bitcoin which is bringing Bitcoin and financial education to the public school system, however, and they are making a huge impact.

    Great video! Something you said caught my attention. I was thinking in saving a small amount of my salary (probably 10%) in crypto. Why do you guys think that eth is a shitcoin? Should I save that 10% only in bitcoin? I'm very curious about that.

    • @twopeopleinparadise
      @twopeopleinparadise  Рік тому +1

      Sorry for the late reply, UA-cam hid your comment (probably because of the words "10% in crypto").
      Ethereum is a shitcoin because it is a centrally controlled, centrally planned, and state-captured coin. 60% of Ethereum blocks comply with US-government imposed transaction censorship.
      Bitcoin does not suffer from this. It has no CEO and no central committee. It cannot be censored, debased, or meaningfully altered to deviate from its concensus rules.
      The more Bitcoin you have, the more insulated you are from monetary debasement, manipulation, and plunder. Especially if you live in a Bitcoin-friendly jurisdiction, your economic freedom is directly proportionate to your Bitcoin holdings as a percentage of net worth.

    In your next live video, would you please devote some time to discussing the general political atmosphere among expats in El Salvador?
    I've noticed from videos that the expat community seems to be largely socially liberal (the lady from New Zealand described multiculturalism as "wonderful").
    I'm socially conservative and, while I support what you are trying to achieve with Bitcoin, I don't think I would feel very comfortable surrounded by liberals.
    Do you think El Salvador is attracting liberals because part of the deal with moving there is that you have to be prepared to immerse yourself in a foreign culture?
    I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

    • @vipo1004
      @vipo1004 Рік тому

      Jesús i hope Nayib helps keeping the country conservative. El Salvador is very conservative where “marihuaba use” has not been legalized and to me that would attract them liberals, more and more. But I believe that it could be an even division within non-natives as its beaches be are the favorite playground for the so called “free people” woke… let’s hope the culture values prevail.

      @@twopeopleinparadise how about the atms. Can you withdraw cash with lightning?

    • @twopeopleinparadise
      @twopeopleinparadise  11 місяців тому +1

      ATM transactions are all done on-chain as well. This is for the security layer 1 provides. Some ATMs will dispense cash as soon as the transaction hits the mempool, but others require one or more confirmations, which involves a wait and can be frustrating.
      However, DitoBanx is soon to launch an exciting solution for this. Next week's video will cover it in depth!

      @@twopeopleinparadise I'm an american. Do I need the el salvadore chivo wallet to withdraw or can I just withdraw with the generated receipt and use like a us driver's license? I've seen videos that appear it's only for citizens with chivo and others where foreigners are withdrawing cash.

    • @twopeopleinparadise
      @twopeopleinparadise  11 місяців тому +1

      You can use the Chivo ATM to buy/sell Bitcoin with any wallet app. Only citizens can use the Chivo app itself.
      There are other, better ways to manage Bitcoin/fiat exchanges here. Video coming soon!
