  • MY FIRST VIDEO! Lol... I've grown a lot as an editor and writer since this first attempt.
Original Description: This episode of "Is It Fun?" is the first of hopefully many videos that attempt to give viewers a simple and concise opinion of classic games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES is by far my biggest collection and I'm attempting to create a large catalog of 5-10 minute mini-reviews for all of my games.

Thank you! This episode took 4-5 hours. lol. 1-2 hours playing, 1 hour doing the VO, and 1-2 hours putting it all together. The end result: 5 minutes and 26 seconds. But now it is out there for the world to see.

This is funny given how long it probably takes you to do videos now. I'm working on a Metroid video that's 2.4 TB of footage and is going to be at least 25 hours to edit. Man. Great review though. I'm playing Kid Icarus soon. I got the Disk System version!

Plus Kid Icarus had a credit card, which was always really odd to me. Where in Greek Mythology were there lending terms and agreements? How was the interest rate calculated? Minimum monthly payments???

I love this game completely, and yes your first time it’s hard to beat. But after you get used to it. Then it will be so much easier. I love going back to replaying this game a lot. Its definitely my favorite NES game

this is one of the games that in my opinon that got easier as you played. The first level is extremly difficult. Getting through the first 2 levels before you can level up turned me off in the beginning, but the moment you do, it's quite rewarding.

Oh I beat Kid Icarus as a kid and this is how I did it: It was the only game I owned for about 6 months aside from Super Mario Bros. That'll do it!

Good eye. That is exactly why I did Kid Icarus that day. I was excited about the 3DS game. This was my first video and I will always think of my channel's birth as an "uprising".

  • @NESComplex
    @NESComplex  12 років тому +6

Thank you very much. Kid Icarus Uprising is awesome. Thanks for the recommendation. Even though my channel currently focuses on retro NES and whatnot, I've actually been playing a lot of handhelds lately. I'm done with Uprising and I just finished Uncharted: Golden Abyss for PSVita. I also picked up the 3D Classics version of Kid Icarus. That game is beautiful.

I was a kid in the 80’s and this game was hard! Never made it past the first level. The flying nose guys, those damm snakes that kept coming and coming, the rooms that were just empty and there for no reason. But the worst thing of all was those Grim Reaper Guys. I remember being genuinely scared when they came on screen. They took about a thousand hits to kill and man if they seen you it was all over. They would run around and get all crazy and then summon their children to fly down from the top of the screen too. The whole scene with those things were just insanity and viciousness. I’m still shook to this day.

  • @NESComplex

Nice video, NESComplex. Kid Icarus is still one of my fave NES games, despite not having aged as well as other 1st party efforts.
For anyone having trouble with the difficulty, I highly recommend the 3D Classics version of Kid Icarus on Nintendo's 3DS e-shop. The new Custom Control mode makes a world of difference.

    Wow. About 10 years ago!
I first fell in love with this game as a kid. Although I never owned it! I would look at it in the NES Guide and drool over how great it was. I was lucky, I managed to own Metroid (best game ever) but I always wanted this one as a kid. Then as I was an adult (and got back into retro), I bought it. To be honest, I was let down! Only because it's so friggin' hard (for me). I still love the game. But if I could change ONE thing, it would be the falling deaths. The enemies are not that hard...it's the friggin scrolling that kills you. I do have a poster of it on my wall...so it's made it into my retro hall of fame. 🙂

Thank you AlmightyBob (love your name by the way). This was my first video. I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I kinda cringe. lol. I still love the game. I picked up the 3D Classics version on 3DS and the added backgrounds add a lot to the atmosphere in the game.

With your NES complex, I had to tell you something.. I just uploaded the first ever vid of running 🏃 and beating a game at the same time... I did Ninja Gaiden in 3 miles and like 25 minutes, including some cutscenes. It hasn’t had any major attention yet, but you’re another passionate dude that I think would enjoy the concept. I also want to do guest appearances, if you’re ever up for it, just as a fun and silly but legit way to combine some wellness with gaming 😂 and it’s an extra challenge!

This was one game I never got around to playing as a kid, I definitely need to pick it up and give it a go. It's fun to go back to the golden age of gaming and play something you never did play. There are so many titles to the NES that I have probably at least 50 I want to go back and play. I don't know why but I enjoy that era of games & the SNES games so much more then todays games.

I can imagine that I wouldn't get very far in it if I did. :P For some reason, a lot of old NES games seem to have this thing where I could do so well in it as a kid, but playing as an adult, I get my rear handed to me. :P Haha.

Kid Icarus is a really good game even if it's not quite as great as Nintendo's other big name classics, which is probably why the series kind of fell through the cracks. It's definitely a tough game too but I never found it to be THAT hard. I have WAY more trouble with the first TMNT game, Blaster Master, and Battletoads, just to name a few. I can't beat any of those games for the life of me of me but I've been through Kid Icarus probably a dozen or more times. But yeah, bottom line, Kid Icarus is a great addition to anyone's NES game collection.

I didn't know that there were different gameplay styles because I only got to the second level. Maybe Kid Icarus could be Nintendo's Nier: Automata of being really genre bending and experimental? I can imagine the vertical levels being turned into a 3D pillar type level. Or be a really trippy level like when you put portals next to each other in Portal and can see till infinity.

The reason you die if you fall like in the first Mario where you can not back track on the screen is it is a R.O.M cart which is Read Only Memory so once pass a screen there is no way to access that information again which is weird since Metroid was one of the first R.A.M carts (Read Access Memory) which could access previously displayed memory.Hmm..Good episode dude going to subscribe.

True story: I first played Kid Icarus in 1988 when I was roughly 9 years old. I had a bit of a temper on me and that game is one of the more frustrating ones, so as I played it alone, in the living room, with my parents out of the house, I was knocked down one pit too many so I yanked the controller out of the console by the cord and basically slammed the controller against whatever happened to be nearby like a whip. What happened to be nearby was one of my mom's glass tables which - while thankfully didn't break at the glass - suffered a huge gouge on one of the legs. Yeah, I won't forget that day or my several punishments any time soon.
...But yes, the game is actually fun. If frustrating.

I used to love this game. I can't remember if I won it fair and square or using the game genie.

I have a love/hate relationship with this trilogy. I wish Nintendo would work on them semi-regularly and learn to iron out the kinks. It's the one franchise of theirs that's consistently screwed up, but there's something so loveable about it, that I can't help play it anyway. Rented the hell out of it as a kid.
