True …. But I am going back there just found a gravel route that goes from south of Lincoln to the Northwest corner of the state. About 800 miles and almost all gravel.

My friend and I attempted to ride the CBT in 2021, from Valentine to Norfolk. Setting out from Valentine, the trail was beautiful and well maintained. However, once you get 25 - 30 miles out, the trail is not maintained and is overgrown with weeds, including the dreaded goat head thorn. By the time we got to Ainsworth, we both had multiple flats, and our tires were studded with goat head thorns. No bike shops in the small towns. We were told most people use Gatorskin tires and run tubeless setups to help mitigate flats. We were also told most people bypass the middle section of the CBT and ride on the State Route paralleling the trail. Looks like you might have done some of that or could have filmed that portion of the detour around the washed out bridge. We altered our plans and drove to Norfolk, deciding to ride in the opposite direction until the trail conditions dictated otherwise. We didn’t get far.
In short, the CBT is beautifully maintained for many miles at either terminus (Valentine or Norfolk), but you’d be wrong to think you can bike the whole thing without some sort of support and lots of tire repair supplies. This video makes the ride but look good and uneventful - except for the wind. I suspect it does not tell the entire story.

Yes you’re right we didn’t ride the entire trail. We were on and off the trail, we had heard about all the goat heads and flats and when it looked not so good we stayed off. Actually we did more on the road than on the trail.

2019 I decided to take my Bucketlist adventures tour on a 7 speed mountain bike with a trailer, it started in the Detroit area got to Chicago heights Illinois in 6 days and hit the Old Plank Road trail, it was suppose to go to Davenport Iowa, it didn’t, so I made my own route on farm roads that when in the same direction, across Iowa to Decatur Nebraska, then to Norfolk Nebraska, slept under the bridge at the start of the trail in a downpour my first night, my second night was on the picnic table along the elk river over look just past the rusted colored bridge, when to Battle Creek and stayed 2 nights cause the signs said trail was closed. This didn’t stop me, I walked that bicycle and trailer to the next town Started with a T. Camped there for 2 nights then to neigh Nebraska. That’s when I started paying attention to the weather west of me in august. Staying 7 weeks there before backtracking to Norfolk and head south down highway 81, made it to Salina Kansas before hitting early snow in late October. Finally took a train to where I retired now, I still take small trips camping, but would love to finish what I started back then. Stabilize my health condition is why I made this trip, plus I wanted to go to places I couldn’t in a semi truck for over 30 years. Which I could post photos on here. Good luck with future trips.

Nice Relive footage -- may I ask when you took this trip? I'm guessing it's been a few months since it was 102, though the winds may be just as strong these days!
