  • Watch as I replace the carb on this Kohler single cylinder Command Vertical 460 cc engine that powers a John Deere Lt 160 lawn tractor. It seems to be overfilling which usually means a problem in the needle and seat. To make sure I squash it in one try I'm replacing the whole carb with a cheap aftermarket replacement.
If you're replacing a carburetor you can have a dealer look it up but they usually will only sell OEM carbs which might be out of the budget for an older mower. You can look up the engine information yourself and get a much cheaper option of replacing the carb with an aftermarket replacement.
I'd say it's a good DIY job and only requires basic hand tools.

This is my exact engine. Looks very similar to the replacement carburetor I replaced my original with. There are two screws on it similar to yours. Top silver one with the spring and a black screw. How much should they be tightened/adjusted? Initially it stuttered/hunted like yours did and I can't get the screw adjustment correct between the two. Any suggestions?
