- In this video I restore a very Old elegant desk lamp (Restoration Of An Desk Lamp )
i found this lamp at the local junkyard. I really liked its design, so I bought it for $5. To be honest, I initially thought this should be a quick and easy project. Of course, getting the reflector back in shape would be tricky, but the rest should be pretty straightforward. How wrong I was! It took me 36 days in the studio to complete this project.restoration
It was really difficult to get the reflector back in shape.ut with a little thought we came up with a very clever tool design that The rest was just sanding. At first I tried to mirror polish the interior. As I couldn't get a satisfactory result, I opted for a satin brushed finish instead, which turned out amazing in my opinion.
i use my own logo. So I wanted to spray the logo with a template sticker cut out with the vinyl cutter, but the small size of the letters didn't allow me to get a clean, crisp result after removing the sticker from the template. Then I tried the other way around and cut some gold vinyl and used the logo itself as a permanent sticker, which worked great and looked super neat. I applied two coats of 2K varnish to seal the sticker.
The old nickel plating was already coming off on some parts, so I removed the old plating, re-polished them all, and re-plated them.

Overall I'm very happy with how the lamp turned out. All the different finishes and colors go very well together. The parts painted in light ivory with the silver inside and the golden logo, the wood painted in black, the reflector nice and shiny and the parts freshly polished and nickel plated.

I tend to anthropomorphize inanimate objects-like this darling “Pixar” lamp. I felt so sorry for it. Now it’s alive again. So beautiful.

Lorsque j'ai vu cette lampe, je n'ai pas pu m'empêcher de dire "hé bien, quel courage !". Ce genre de réflecteur associé à ce "ressort" (apparemment heureusement en pas trop mauvais état) m'ont paru être un piège redoutable ou du moins ultra chronophage. Heureusement que vous aviez vos deux adorables jeunes assistants 😊 Même réaction devant les lettres de votre logo ; pourquoi tant de lettres ont des parties intérieures quasi ingérables en vinyle petites tailles lol ?. Pour ma part, j'y ai renoncé pour tous les petits lettrages et j'essaye, quand c'est possible, d'utiliser le laser sans vinyle, ce qui pose tout de même d'autres problèmes. Le laser utilisé avec un vinyle "standard" fonctionne assez bien même en petites tailles et certaines conditions du support, mais les émanations sont corrosives et toxiques, donc ce n'est pas très recommandable.
Peu importent les difficultés, la restauration est vraiment captivante.

The restoration was great. Love how your cats were just hanging out and watching. One question. That piece in the base that looked like a lumpy hunk of metal that you replaced, what was it? Didn't seem to have any use I can think of.
That lumpy hunk of metal is used as a heavy counterweight to keep the lamp from tipping over. The original "lump" was lead.

I looked for a bushing to protect the wire insulation where it goes through the base. I think that would be needed.

Nice work, but bulb is too large - should be frosted and concealed by the reflector. Your logo takes away from the beauty of the lamp - It should have been put on the underside. Why did you use chemical stripper on the reflector when you could have just sandblasted it?
